How about setting up a carpool system in all areas .. wouldn't it be great
if we could get serious about finding ways that work for us as a whole unit
working together to combat the fuel expenses that we could collectively
get carpools set up and what a massive savings this would be. I envision
great strides in saving our environment and our pocketbooks at the same time.
Just planting the seed!!

Oops-sorry! I did indeed just look at the topic title--not realizing the thread was just about carpools. Will be more careful!

That said, under local and (I believe) Federal law, a gas station may be required to provide assistance in dispensing fuel to persons with disabilities. They are not, however, required to provide "full service" services (i.e., oil/transmission/tire pressure checks).

To reiterate kwzh's post: The above confusion is one reason why "GasBuddy improvement" is not a good topic title.

I would like to know if stations offer self/full serve. Full serve is not widely available & some drivers need it (physical limitations, etc). Also, I have found full serve prices posted (where a station has both), which can be misleading. I know of one station that is strictly full serve, and although locals know this, it can also be misleading.
It would be great if full/self serve could be shown as part of the station listing.

Maybe a system to redeem GB points for gas price discounts at major retailers. Maybe link these discounts with loyalty cards.

What massive savings would there be, and who would save it? It sounds like it would be expensive to design and implement. And I would guess in the end few people would use it.

This seems like it would be appropriate to handle in the local forum, instead.

A quick google search shows several websites set up to facilitate carpooling in and between many areas, and also the general messaging centers set up on places like craigslist. Some are just free volunteer things and others are paid sites, and then there are the company run carpools for their own employees. There's even one that let's you rent your own car out when you're not using it. No shortage of ways to carpool if one wants.

First, and I'm not sure how this will improve Gas Buddy, this would be a massive undertaking, trying to establish carpool systems and coordination for each of the many Gas Buddy sites, let alone for each individual local. After all, just for Ontario there would have to be numerous sub-sits.

Second, and this has been suggested previously (see CampKohler's "Suggested Topic List" to find the appropriate topic), moderators have said that this does not fall under the general purpose or dynamics of gas price posting, or Gas Buddy's intended purpose (i.e., members helping members save at the fuel pump).

As has been suggested before, there already are other carpool options in place, such as on your local Craigslist website. Also, many local communities, cities, neighborhoods, etc., have websites for such purposes. And, if you think there should be something on Gas Buddy to facilitate carpooling, simply start a topic in your local Ontario discussion forum (though I would call it something such as "Carpooling in Ontario", or a more local identification, than titling the topic "GasBuddy improvement"). You can use that topic, your local topic, to discuss local carpooling with other members and either establish a system of your own, or you may learn about local carpooling options from other Ontario or more localized members.

But "setting up a carpool system in all areas", sorry but no, I don't think it would be great. Not on Gas Buddy, unless Gas Buddy were to change it's entire intent and perspective. Unless, of course, you're suggesting a pay-to-participate option to make it both feasible and worth implementing/maintaining.
