"Yes, well, if collective frustration...."
I keep a pair of wire cutters on my desk all the time.
Ok, it's just small wire cutters and I just use it on my fingernails but...

Since the OP has not yet achieved seniority, perhaps he doesn't know how the whiteboard works, and will agree after testing it that it does satisfy what he had in mind. Or, if not, will explain what would satisfy him.
In the meantime, I'm ready to let this drop.

Yes, well, if collective frustration is only up to the "dagnabit" level, our psyches are safe for at least another few days. What you have to be on the lookout for is the "golly-jangies," which is an order of magnitude worse and on the very border of insanity incarnate, sometimes resulting in the pulling of one's own teeth with whatever kind of pliers that are to hand. It's a frightening thing to witness, I can tell you.

I'm pretty sure the OP is asking for the ability to reply to specific posts in a thread. A lot of discussion boards have those and there is often an outline or tree of the posts that can be used to access only the responses desired. Along the lines of:
Original post -- 1st Response -- Reply 1 by xyz on dd/mm/yy -- Reply 2 by abc on dd/mm/yy -- 2nd Response -- Reply 1 by def on dd/mm/yy -- Reply 2 by uvw on dd/mm/yy

I guess I don't understand your suggestion. If you just want say amen or "good stuff" to a good comment, why can't you simply tell the member in the thread you like "amen" or "good stuff". That way others will know you appreciate or like the comment. As for the other member using his "mailbox", how are you trying to e-mail the other member? It seems like you could simply, if you don't want to let the member know in the thread that you think the thread comment is "good stuff", post to the member's white board.
Or are you trying to do something entirely else?

If he wants to say something everyone sees, he can simply reply in whatever thread he was reading. If he wants everyone to see his thumbs up, why is he trying to be added as a buddy?

I believe you are right about requiring 10K pts to write on a whiteboard. I'm assuming the author wants all readers to see the thumbs-up.

Why don't you just write on his Whiteboard? Or is that something that members with less than 10K points can't do?
