So, I've really become fond of the game of trying to take over the station "champion" leader.

I'm curious, why doesn't the website station profile have this information when the mobile apps do?

I think it would be more engaging to come up with additional competition like "games" around reporting prices.

Anyhow, my 2 cents. Comments?

"Encouragement over admonishment might be a better strategy to keep people involved." Too true, but tough skin lessens the bruising. Don't let them get to you.

" I sent posting jumms dramitically oin my area and just as accurate as before the station leader list started. "

"To translate in American language "...posting jumms dramitically oin...." is actually "...posting jumps dramatically in.."

= I sent posting jumps dramatically in my area and just as accurate as before the station leader list started.. ??

Okay -- So, I guess he is saying that there was an increased posting activity when they started the station leader list, and he feels the accuracy has not suffered.

Others have indicated an opposite experience - that the posting accuracy HAS suffered (it appears to have suffered with the advent of the various games around my neck of the woods).

As far as the games, I am willing to bet that they will grow stale pretty quick and participation due to the games will either become more inaccurate or drop off, and they will need to spend more and more programming to come up with new stuff to keep the gamers interested.

Just my opinion, but I think the programming aimed at keeping the kids occupied would go much father in improving the MSL and linking and many of the OTHER issues that have been pending for so very long. 1-2 years out, and the APPS games will become ho-hum, and we will still not have the enhancements that will REALLY help us with finding the best value for our gas money. Improving the MSL/grade listing, improving the trip tracker and fuel logs, and improving newsville, etc.

I can only post to about 5 stations on a daily basis on the way to my work at a mortgage company. Does this put me in a game? I also noticed when I post someone usually post the same price a few minutes later. There must be posting going on by many people in Bakersfield. I notice some people post prices that I seen changes hours ago. interesting people would post without looking at signs. I like this site. I don't think I will be top poster but I can post 5 days a week at min.

To translate in American language "...posting jumms dramitically oin...." is actually "...posting jumps dramatically in....". It was late and dark and my Irish roots took over, lol. I'm glad we are in melting pot so people can translate:)

The station leader has made me more interested in driving different routes to post more prices as to help more people. And I go out of my way to stations that rarely get post. I now use for different routes that take almost the same mileage and time so I can post more prices. I also travel a lot so I post more now in other towns.

Just as long as it isn't illegal, I guess.

I'm a little afraid of jumms.

This suggestion has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as a new subject.

"...posting jumms dramitically oin...." is actually "...posting jumps dramatically in...." unless that is Welsh, in which case it would translate to "irrevocable living trust."

What is it that folks need GAMES to be motivated to post prices? Seriously, the site is about accurate posting of prices. That means some folks will not post as many prices as others because their lifestyle doesn't include being attached 24/7 to a smart phone, or they live in an area with short commutes and few stations (I pass 1 on my way home from work unless I take an alternate route).

There are so many games on the web to play if you want entertainment.

Around here, I have seen a decrease in accuracy with the increasing games on the APPs.

If you want more games, create word or other games in the JFF. There are plenty of games from word games to number games. Be creative and leave the price posting to those that care about Gas Buddy as a benefit to members more than silly games.

the goal for many people seems to be posts, that's why you keep seeing "champion authors" responding with "OK" or "yes" or sometimes posting the to the same forum topic five times in a row.

Price accuracy and lots of stations represented is the goal (or at least I thought it was)

FYI, I've really only been posting prices (and doing it accurately) for about 3 months, since I got the app. Writing prices on a piece of paper and logging into the website separately was too much of a pain in the ass.

So, now you know why I haven't posted all that many prices gas_buddy. Maybe next time you respond to one of my posts you can leave out the chastising for the low number of price posts as you've done it on 2 posts in a row. Encouragement over admonishment might be a better strategy to keep people involved.

Around here, price accuracy seems very good. App or not.

Isn't this only for the app?

Ever since they started the APP, the number of fake and incorrect price posts have gone up.

I agree with everything Gas_Buddy posted here. Post some price updates so that others can use the information to find lower gas prices, The last thing this site needs are more games that encourage more updates from those only looking to win a prize.

Comments?

First, what does this have to do in the General Gas Talk discussion, which is for talk about gas stations, fuel, oil, etc.?

Second, if you're really fond of the game of trying to take over the station "champion" leader, it might be easier if you post gas prices just a little more frequently.

In nearly four years of membership on Gas Buddy, with 81,900 points, you've posted about one gas price every other day., and posted about as many gas prices as many members post in three months (just for points, not all their prices). Maybe, and it's just a suggestion, if you want to try to take over the station "champion" leader, you might want to post gas prices just a little more frequently. And, as a long time Gas Buddy member, set an example for others, even if you're not becoming the "champion" leader.

Not sure what you mean by "website station profile", it's just a game to encourage app users to post gas prices in a timely manner, and shows the leader that's been posting by using the app. It has nothing to do with website price posting. and, the website station profile, by which I assume you mean the Master Station List listing, the Master Station List has a different purpose and is more stable, intentionally not subject to daily (or more often) changes.

As for more "games" around reporting prices, there are already complaints that there is a lot of fraudulent price posting as a result of the app awards. You don't think that that more "games" won't increase false price postng just so someone can be an anonymous "champion" leader?
