I own a couple of Gas Stations in Washington state, I set the street price on them daily. I also live in California (part-time). While in California I post the prices from my daily commute, but I also post my Washington prices. I do get a prompt on my iPhone, when posting my Washington prices from California, "This station seems far away." Is it OK to post anyway? Is there some checking by GasBuddy?

Users should only update prices that they've seen and physically confirmed for themselves.

With that being said, even though you are 100% positive of what your prices are (being the person who is setting them), GPS is still used to validate prices posted through the app. There is a reason as to why this feature is set in place ie. there are users who regularly update prices thousands of miles away, all from one location - these users are typically banned automatically.

This accuracy safeguard will not recognize that you fully know your own prices for the stations you're updating, it will only see that you are not physically near the stations you are updating. When those prices are posted, they'll either be flagged for moderator review, or dismissed automatically by the system.

I would also recommend posting prices using the website for whichever area you're not nearest if you're going to update all of your station prices on a daily basis if you would like for them to all be updated and remain listed (your username and password can be used on all GasBuddy websites and apps).

I hope this helps.

Well since you absolutely do know what the prices are, I see no problem with it. However, I suggest you post those distant prices using the web site. The app frequently will not take them, even after giving you a warning and leaving you with the impression that it took them.

The answer is in the Frequently Asked Questions section, however because of the ownership issue (and Gas Buddy Direct possibilities), this is more appropriate for a moderator response rather than a member perspective (and opinion) type of response. Our thoughts should be secondary to a management decision.

In my opinion.

Given the number of posts that you have made, perhaps a read through the FAQs would help.
