Being able to designate favorite stations would be extremely helpful for commuters. I pass through 3 separate urban areas on my daily commute covering about 25 miles. There is frequently as much as a 10 cent /gal difference in prices and the low price can be in any of the areas.

I find it difficult to quickly determine if I should bypass a good price hoping for a better one later in the the commute. The list shows way too many stations well beyond my commute in all directions not just along my route. So if I could pick "Show Favorites" and see a station I have selected in each of the three areas, I would know which area to stop at for the best price.

Thank you for your consideration.

CK - On the android app, the FSL pretty much works that way. He is asking for the same functionality on the iPhone. This request is nothing new. People have been asking for FSLs on the iPhone for well over a year. A moderator did mention that they had lost the person developing the iPhone app, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this. Also, this request doesn't enhance revenue by turning GasBuddy more into a game like Foursquare. This actually helps users but only a minority group. Therefore, I suspect this will not be a top priority.

As work arounds, the OP can check the full site before he leaves home. He could bring the full site up on a browser and expand the FSL area using pinch to zoom to see it better. He could get an android phone.

He could also download a voice recorder, use that to record prices and report prices on the full site using a computer later. It is safer than what many of the app users are doing.

Perhaps it should be pointed out that kkroft is not asking for an FSL in the normal sense, i.e. a reporting mechanism, but rather for a search having one of two aspects:
1. A search where the individual stations could be specified by ID number. By eliminating the need for any other search terms whatsoever (brands, areas, ZIPS, etc.), it could easily be site-wide.
2. A search for stations along a route, where the route is specified, say by a number of waypoints (lat & long) giving sufficient accuracy to allow only the desired stations to appear in the results.

If both of the above were implemented, 2) could result in a list of station IDs which, in turn, could be saved and fed into 1) as just another search.

These ideas could also apply to the full site.

There is a favorites list on the Android app. It is the same as the favorites list on the full site. Sadly, the iPhone doesn't yet have a favorites list.

I think the criticism comes because to date, you could have earned 345,000 just by posting five (5) prices/day. This could be achieved by using Evernote on you phone and using the voice recording feature to speak the prices then post them when you are at a PC.

This suggestion has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as a new topic on existing subjects.

Thank you for the reply. I do use the map feature when I remember to check before leaving. But I still think a simple "favorites" tab in the mobile app
would be helpful to many who drive in urban area where there are choices of districts that may have substantial price variation. Since this is a suggested improvement area of the forum it seemed appropriate to post it.

Sincerely,

KK

If you have a large-screen computer at home, I'd suggest you use the map feature on the full site, before going to the car at all. If the phone is all you have, I probably can't help you; I haven't used that mode myself, and don't know what the options are.

Now, on to the secondary issue.

Although it's nice to have people participating by posting prices when they can, in general it should not be a prerequisite for posting thoughts on the forum. I'll allow that when someone asks for more ways to earn points, it's appropriate to note "You haven't been taking the points that are already available", and when someone mentions that the price at some station is incorrect, it's appropriate to point out that they could have entered the correct data after finding this out. But responding to a feature request with "Why haven't you been entering prices" strikes me as analogous to spotting a car with a flat tire, and pulling over to ask the driver why he wasn't at home spending quality time with his family.

Hurrah for kkroft! (Nothing specific; it's just a general hurrah.)

Sorry I was not specific with regard to the request being for the mobile app.
I use an iPhone but any mobile would benefit. My eyesight is not good enough to see much on the web page when viewed on the iPhone. I am not crazy about the safety risk of looking while driving so I want to be able to check my favorites just before I leave the driveway and know in advance which station to plan on stopping at. Seems like that is right in line with the whole purpose here.

Map option means looking trying to view very small text or zooming in which means lots of scrolling. It works but is cumbersome. I don't want more options. There are a specific number of options that I use. Each exit has basically the same price at all stations so if I can view one per exit I can see what I need to know.

It is arrogant to assume that any of you know how often I try to add to the database. It turns out that my drive is between main rushes and the prices always seem to be updated when I try. I agree participation is key and add whenever I can. BUT I won't do it while driving either. Even with the bifocals I can't switch focus back and forth quick enough to update the fields while in traffic And all but 8 miles of my drive is interstate.

I am supposed to be able to suggest an idea that I think is useful without being abused for supposedly not helping. I had no idea that I needed a minimum of points to be heard.

First, what device are you looking for a favorites list for? The website, or for a mobile app? If for a mobile app, what type of mobile app?

Second, there is a favorites stations list on the full website, which can be accessed using a mobile device's browser.

Alternatively, if you're using a mobile device, and you find the "list" inconvenient, why not use the "map" option; it will show you stations in front of you (as well as stations to your left and right (that may have lower prices than those ahead of you), and give you more options than on a limited "favorites list".

That sad, and it's only a reminder to everyone, gas prices, including those on "favorites lists" are only useful if they're posted on Gas Buddy. In this case, the member has averaged one gas price every four months. Considering that prices are removed for the Dayton Gas Buddy area 24 hours after posting, and assuming the member wants to help others learn the best price (as he expects others to help him), posting gas prices, just a little more frequently, even just one gas price post a month (forgetting the idea of one gas price for each 25 mile daily commute) would add tremendously to the information base for others, helping them be more knowledgeable shoppers. Whether they use a "favorites list" or not. But that's just a suggestion.

There sure are a lot of "I"s in your comments. Since you pass so many stations in a day why don't you update some gas prices so others can benefit from the information.

There are favorite station lists. They appear below the list of high prices in the area.

Maybe you could share some gas prices now and then and get more familiar with what already exists?
