Let's say a user has a GasBuddy improvement idea, but they've got a good feeling it's been posted before. They want to search the forums to see previous discussion on that idea, but there's no search bar at all at the top of the subforum pages, and only an author search at the top of the main forum page. So, the user maybe goes back a few pages of posts to look for their idea, then shrugs and posts a new thread when they don't see it in the past month or so. A search box right at the top of the "Browse Topics" pages is needed to cut down on duplicate posts and ensure discussion relevant to an issue isn't happening in too many places.

The search results page could display a larger-than-normal ad. And every new page is an opportunity for more click-throughs. Since it been implemented by now, and since it doesn't ad revenue to the site, I doubt it ever will.

Unfortunately, you will need to do this on each page. You can also use this site. Neither is perfect.
