I find myself needing the trip calculator more often than I am at my computer. If it could some how be added to the app I am sure it would help lots of people. Especially when ur in the middle of buying a new car and need it at the dealership

Well, bra0712 I think it would've been difficult to pick a worse example to illustrate the usefulness of your suggestion. I think I know what you're getting at, since the Trip Cost Calculator has the fuel economy of most vehicles listed when you choose the type of vehicle you are using for your trip. However, your suggested use in a car lot would not require the entire Trip Cost Calculator (as you'd only need a table of vehicles' fuel economy).

Nonetheless, I think the Trip Cost Calculator itself would be very useful as an app, since prices often become stale on long road trips, so the fuel prices are sometimes different by the time you reach them. It would be nice to be able to update and adjust your trip on the fly based on new fuel prices identified by an app on your smartphone.

I didn't say your suggestion was stupid, just that I don't see what the trip calculator will do for you (in your words) "when ur in the middle of buying anew car and need it at the dealership" or when you're looking to buy your wife a new car.

If you're saying you want Gas Buddy to provide links to fuel economy/miles per gallon ratings, that's one thing. If you're asking for the trip calculator to be added to the mobile app, that's an entirely different tool. The trip calculator that Gas Buddy has is for the purpose of showing least expensive or most convenient places to get gas (depending on your buying/driving criteria) along your trip route. I just don't see how using the trip calculator helps you when you're at a car dealership and in the process of buying a new car. And so far, no one seems to have explained how the trip calculator can help at the dealership.

Is it my not understanding how the trip calculator can be used at the dealership when buying a new car that makes me, in your words, lazy? Sorry, but I can't understand that, either.

Although the full site *can* use the GPS on a mobile device, it does not currently do so.

How would accessing the full site "take advantage of the built in GPS?" Can it do that?

Why not, as has been suggested in multiple topics previously, use the browser on phone to open the full Gas Buddy website, and access the trip calculator from the website? It seems you already have a way to do what you're asking for, without trying to make the mobile app a bloated program.

Of course Gas Buddy could have a free a basic, non-frills app, that lets members post gas prices and see gas prices (helping them be more knowledgeable shoppers) and also have a "pro" version of the app, a pay-to-own app, that has more "whistles and bells", as many companies have.

While I find his intended application to be a bit odd, one of the features of the Trip Calculator is that it will list the EPA listed MPG for a vehicle. While the Trip Calculator's intended purpose is a sort of Map Quest w/ a focus on where to get the best gas prices along the way, an "off-label" use of the Trip Calculator would be to get a quick answer as to a vehicle's rated MPG, so I can see where it would be of use when shopping a used car lot where you may not have the luxury of advanced knowledge of their complete inventory.

That being said, I would love to see a mobile version of the Trip Calculator too. I am planning a long trip in the next few weeks, and it would be awesome to have the Trip Calculator on my phone where it can take advantage of the built in GPS. I can also take advantage of the fact that there's a lot of hours for gas prices to change between the time I print out my Trip Calculator and reach my destination. To have something that would be able to have access to up the second price updates would be great.

All I said was they may want it for MPG and not fill in trip and then explained how the PC version shows it as available as you asked . I was just trying to figure out why someone would ask such a question and answer yours . Is that simple enough for you or (asked sarcastically) should I ......just kidding, I have no idea anymore why people ask 1/2 of what they ask or post here anymore.kpl

Mario:

Let me ask it as simple as possible: Why do you need a trip calculator at an auto dealership when you're in the middle of buying a new car if you're not programming a trip?

The purpose of the Gas Buddy "Trip Cost Calculator" is to help you save money on your trip, to show you the cheapest gas for each fill-up.

The "Trip Cost Calculator" is to help you save money on your trip; it's to show you the cheapest gas for each fill-up.

You say where you would like to go, you select a vehicle from the list or enter your vehicle information if you know your fuel economy and tank size, you click the "Fuel My Trip button" and the calculator will pinpoint the cheapest gas on your route.

Why or how is the trip calculator needed, in bra0712's words, "Especially when ur in the middle of buying a new car and need it at the dealership"?

If you're simply looking for the fuel economy of a vehicle, "Especially when ur in the middle of buying a new car and need it at the dealership", the trip calculator isn't what you need or should be using.

Mario:
How are they using the trip calculator to determine their miles-per-gallon?
Miles per gallon has nothing to do with using a trip calculator when you're at an auto dealership "in the middle of buying a new car". The trip calculator help members find gas stations along the way, along the path of their trip from one place to another, showing the various places to get gas at the best prices, or where to get gas (price irrelevant) based on distances your vehicle can travel (before it needs to be refueled). It's not, or am I missing something, as if you're driving around the dealership long enough that you're trying to decide where to buy gas. Are you?

Well, duh. It's to see if you can do a "test drive" and get far enough to escape with the car.

I'm more confused about the suggestion, because of the most recent post, than I was with the original post. How, or why, would you be using the trip calculator when browsing cars at a dealership?

I could understand using the trip calculator if you were making a lengthy trip from Arizona to, say, the Albequeque or Amarillo to see cars, and the trip calculator would show where to buy gas along the way. But using the trip calculator "when browsing cars" or "when ur in the middle of buying a car and need it at the dealership". Maybe I'm missing the obvious, but that makes no sense to me. What, exactly, do you expect to be doing with the trip calculator at the dealership...or when browsing cars at the dealership?

I'm not sure I understand this suggestion.
You need a trip calculator when you're buying a new car? And you need a trip calculator at the dealership?

In any case (not understanding the last sentence of the original post), you can't access the full website from your mobile device (using your mobile device's browser)?
And you can't access the t
