Right now, regular gas prices show up. Is there a way to reset the default to premium gas- or another grade of gas?

The iOS app has the same option that Scrapheap described. Go "back" (upper left) to the home screen, if the app takes you to gas prices by default upon launch, and go to your settings. You can set your fuel type settings there, so in the future the app defaults to your chosen grade.

Some stations (at least in my area) only advertise their regular (or regular and diesel) prices for drivers passing by, so if that's the case in your area you may find that rankings based on premium rates are less current. In that case, the cheapest regular rate station is likely to give you a better premium rate too, but that's just a thought if less complete information is an issue. :-)

On the Android app you can go to settings, Fuel Type and check to box you want. On the Android app, you can also change this simply by clicking on the fuel you want displayed after performing a search. The next time you search, that is the type of fuel that will be displayed.

musicreporter: CupcakeCruiser isn't asking the website be changed. She's asking if she can reset the default from one thing to another. That's a question, not a suggestion.

I am sure that the mobile app was never intended to mirror all the functions of the full website. Rather the mobile app is a streamlined way to quickly update prices and/ of search for low prices while on the road. The app does those two functions very well.

As Gas_Buddy points out the full website is available to your smartphone via the phones browser. If the browser brings up the GasBuddy mobile site, scroll to the bottom and there is a link that will take you to the full website. Given the relatively easy way to access the full site, I would consider upgrading the mobile app to mirror it a low priority.

Karisholman:

"I would like to message forum, read articles, answer poll question, etc on my phone app"

You can access the full Gas Buddy website, the message forums/articles/poll/etc., by using the browser on your phone. The moderators have, apparently, decided that the primary purpose of the mobile app is to report gas prices for the benefit of your fellow members and for their posting prices to help you be a more knowledgeable shopper; the intent of the mobile app is to not duplicate the website and be (for argument's sake) all things for all people. The mobile app (if you choose to not access the full website via the phone's browser) is simply a subset of the full website.

musicreporter, it sounds like you'd like to make a suggestion that's independent of the one that started this thread. It's best if you instead create a new topic to do that, so it'll be easier to find and won't have confusing cross-talk with this thread's suggestion.

There is not, on the iPhone, but considering how easy it is to switch between regular, midgrade, premium and diesel, a simple one finger touch, it probably simplifies the app and is one less thing to possibly go wrong (which would, of course, lead to people starting topics complaining about problems with the app).
