My solution is to navigate to a URL suffixed with the query "?area=nosucharea" or equivalent; this causes the system to do a search which turns up empty, and hence there are no prices listed to push my favorites list down.

That last sentence is perfect. Rap it up and send it to Obama.

"How hard could it be to allow the sections of the home page to be served in the order the user desires? If nothing else, a cookie could specify that."
How many free sites let you do this CampKohler? Very few if any. Man everybody wants everything but most don't want to do anything for it. No one is entitled to anything!

"I wish the iPhone APP had a favorites period. I'd take it on the top, bottom, or middle of the screen"
You can, using the iPhone app, very easily access the full website using your iPhone's browser enabling you to access - as well as post prices to your favorites - gas prices that others have posted for your benefit. Not being able to access your favorites on a mobile app shouldn't limiting anyone's easily posting local prices (via the "list") or to other or more distant stations (via the "map" option) that the apps already allow.

This suggestion has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as a new subject.
GasBuddy's "Unless and until any and everyone can modify his/her own home page...." hits the nail on the head as the ultimate solution. How hard could it be to allow the sections of the home page to be served in the order the user desires? If nothing else, a cookie could specify that.

And, if your favorites were at the top of the page, some new Gas Buddy member would come along and start a topic titled: "The lowest priced stations should be at the top of home page" with an original post reading: "I wish I could see the lowest priced stations without going to bottom of page".
Unless and until any and everyone can modify his/her own home page, people are going to want different home pages, with the standard home page meeting their desires, not the desires of other members.
That said, and others may criticize me for not taking your suggestion at face value, it's not really that difficult to scroll down or page down or CTRL-End to see your favorites.
