I like the improvements being made on the gas station searches and other searches like that. However, I would like to see a menu that gathers these function logically. For example, a menu function where one can easily access search functions (dynamic searches for local gas stations), quick access to one's own gas station collections (collections of stations that I report on a regular basis - "default stations"), etc.

A case in point, I was trying to answer a poll question about certain improvements to a search function... I couldn't really answer it because I was not really sure what search function was being discussed. I went looking around for it but could not specifically find it. I eventually stumbled across the search while reporting gas prices. And when I wanted to get back to it to use it again, I could not find it.

Hope this makes sense. The whole site seems a bit helter-skelter with only the roll-over menu that is at the top of the page. I am don't mean to be critical, I would just like to see some better user-friendliness on the site in general.

Thanks.

Any thoughts on adding E85? The other apps are limited and data is not reported often

At least on the iPhone, if you're looking at the map, the station indicator for a gas station that has not been posted on during the reporting period is an "empty" icon.

Also, not that prices aren't necessarily deleted after 24 hours; depending on the locale, prices may remain listed for 36 or 48, or as little as 12, hours. It's location variable.

"i think we should be able to post more than 5 prices. just saying."

You can post 500 prices. There is no minimum or maximum number of prices you can post. The more the better as long as they are correct.

You can. Please post all the prices that you see. (On a good day, I might enter 30 prices, myself. Without driving.)

I can't speak for the phone site, but when using a computer, the map view includes a "show all stations" option; when this is selected, out-of-date stations are shown with the label "OLD". Maybe this will meet your needs.

A problem with cluttering the search with gas stations that have no price posted in the past 24 hours is the search is cluttered. That said, are you saying that you don't want to post prices for stations that have a current price posted, and that you want to, more or less, only post prices for stations not listed?

Repeating what's been said in other discussions, updating prices already posted, even if the update is to indicate "no change" and the posted price is still current, updating stations already listed extends the amount of time the station/the price will remain visible.

While it won't show you which stations haven't had prices posted within the past 24 hours, if the concern is not wanting to have to repost all the station informatioon (address, etc.), then you can add most of the gas stations you pass to your Favorite's List. That will, at least, make it easier to update your price posts.

There's somewhat of a bottom line why certain gas stations aren't being posted (i.e., in the past 24 hours, etc.). It's because people (Gas Buddy members) aren't passing those stations as much as they're passing other stations. And if some stations are being passed more than others, then it's all the more reason to help your fellow travelers, your fellow Gas Buddy members, to keep prices current, especially in these times of quickly and multiple price change days.

Just my opinion; that's all. Just my opinion.

I would like to search to be able to locate a gas station that has not been reported on in the last 24 hours. I usually need to be real creative to locate on of these stations so I can post the gas price. Maybe show the gas station in the search and put something to indicate no price posted in the last 24 hours. Another thing I would like to see would be some kind of icon to indicate that a gas station price is based on cash dicounts verses credit charges. I find this so miss leading at some of the gas stations. You can sure see their price down the street but you can't see their small sign to indicate that the price is for cash only. When I come across these types of gas stations I never come back. So an icon to educate the users would be helpful.

You can find all the stations on this site in the Master Station List.

There are links at the top an bottom of each page. Check them out. Surf the site when you have time. Nothing like practical experience.

It has been requested of me to elaborate on what I wanted to see changed. I have no issue with the favorites, or frequently used gas stations, etc.

My issue is with when I need to find something... anything. The SEARCH functions are nested in various places where only experienced "gas buddies" can find them because they make some logical sense to them. Example: I wanted to try to look up a gas station that was not on a list and I wasn't sure if it was in the NevadaGasPrices.com database. I wanted to find a search engine to look it up. I knew it existed, but I didn't know how to find it. There are other examples, but they are not coming to mind. I haven't been using gas buddy lately for a number of reasons... mainly that I don't have an internet connection and have to go to Starbucks to get on line.

So, I don't know if this helps, but itis the best I can do. It would be nice to see a function where all search engines for this website could be found.

Re: default stations: As mentioned below, for reporting, you can organize your FSL in many ways. For searching, Saved Searches can be used to set up a search for whichever area(s) you call home.

I am going to make one more attempt to get the suggester to furnish some more info about how he would like the site to look (details about the menus, etc.).

There already is a default you can use for posting gas prices; it's called the Favorites List (located towards the bottom right of the Home page), and when you make a station a "favorite", the station is listed on the home page, enabling you to post prices for your "favorite" stations without having to do individual searches for stations or repost a station that's had it's price deleted (due to time expiration).

I'm surprised that a long time member, such as yourself, didn't know that. Using the "favorites" list should enable you to post gas prices easier and perhaps much more frequently than you've been able to do over the years. If you need assistance setting up a Favorites List, feel free to ask for help.

Mike: It's been suggested before, not specific to the app but for the main site. You could probably find an existing topic that discusses it. As I recall, the mods have said that they don't think it's useful enough.

For now, the recommended way to share out-of-gas info is to create a topic for that specific purpose, in your local forum. If you're in an area where a natural disaster is in the forecast, then it might be smart to also bookmark it in your Favorite Topics List.

I would like to see a check box on the mobile app to show that a station is temporarily out of a grade of gasoline. This would be helpful during approaching tropical storms or other events that cause "runs" on stations. It cold have a short time out of say a day. Now there is only the comment box to publish this info from the mobile app.

“Helter-skelter” is a good way to describe this site. Various improvements have been made over time but it really needs a complete overhaul to improve organization and make it more user friendly. Old timers have gotten used to this but I expect it is rather daunting for new members.

For your local stations, those you report regularly, you should create Favorite Station Lists. For each of those, the latest posted prices will be shown immediately below the fields where you enter your updated prices. These will be updated every time you reload the page, so a special search function is not needed. You can also create a Saved Search for any combination of areas and stations that is of interest to you. I believe these two features cover most of the things you were asking about.

I’m curious where you ran across a poll about search functions.

Would it be something like the links at the bottom of GB pages? To better understand your idea, could you prepare an example of what this menu would look like? You could post the example here if it's just text or if you make a graphic using, say, MS Pain, store it in this holding wiki* for as long as you need.

*Send me a PM if you have any questions about how to do this.
