This topic links to an off-site wiki version of the Suggestion Tracking List at
gb-tracking.wikispaces.com. (The previous version, which was resident in this category, is abandoned and all activity should resume here.)

Instructions for maintainance and backup of the list are included. A test/practice area wiki has been established at
gb-sandbox.wikispaces.com.

This topic should be replied to whenever it descends to, say, ten messages from the top in order to keep it visible. Any suggestions for improvement of the list or questions about it may be posted here.

The fuel/grades subjects have been sorted out in the list at long last. Each fuel has it's own subject. Only took about four hours.

I have to agree with you. In retrospect, it is all so confusing that it should be considered a danger to the unsuspecting public, something like a manhole with the cover missing (but made of words). For your own comfort and good psychological well being, I recommend that you do not read this topic ever again. Let's just hope that it is not too late and that you are on your way to a full recovery.

I have no idea what the following means, and assume that many others, especially new members reading this topic, will also not understand it:

1. The category has been indexed and linked (except for a handful of "lost sheep" at the bottom, which due to the missing data will take a while to find).
2. The full and mobile map suggestions have been integrated into a single section.
3. The Mobile App Functional Equivalent suggestions have been put into a table to make it easy to see what the suggestions were about. (The Cash-Credit and Fuels/Grades messes would similarly benefit from the same design, but it takes a LOT of time.)

What category has been indexed and linked, and what does that mean that "The category has been indexed..." What does that mean to me as a member and what, if anything, am I supposed to do or how am I supposed to respond, or should I even respond in the first place.

What are "lost sheep" at the bottom?
By lost sheep I assume you mean random items, but realize you're talking to a layman (as others will be), and what does "at the bottom" mean? Or what is it supposed to mean? Am I supposed to do something about "lost sheep" or is this something that has to be resolved before I can do something?

"The full and mobile map suggestions have been integrated into a single section."
And this means what? Is this something I need to be concerned about?

"The Mobile App Functional Equivalent suggestions have been put into a table to make it easy to see what the suggestions were about."
Again, I'm probably naive, but what are Mobile App Functional Equivalent suggestions? What are they equivalent to and how do they differ from Mobile App Functional suggestions?

"(The Cash-Credit and Fuels/Grades messes would similarly benefit from the same design, but it takes a LOT of time.)"
What does that mean? As a layman, why are Cash-Credit and Fuels/Grades messes? Are you saying (by saying "...would similarly benefit from the same design...") that they wouldn't be messes if they were put into a table in the same manner as the Mobile App Functional Equivalent suggestions? And if/when they are put into the same design (I assume you mean a table design), what does that mean? What am I supposed to do once it's in the same design? Or do I have to do anything?

Sorry, but I keep reading what I think are esoteric posts and simply don't understand them, don't understand what I'm supposed to do, and understand why I need (from the original post) "Instructions for maintenance and backup of the list, let alone why I need to go to a test/practice area wiki. What am I supposed to be maintaining and backing up and why do I need to maintain and back up a wiki? For that matter, I have no idea what a wiki is or does, which leads to my next question: Why are you depending on me (and/or other members) to maintain and backup some program? Why doesn't Gas Buddy management or the moderators or the programmers take care of the website's maintenance?

I'm not entirely computer illiterate but I simply don't understand what my obligations or responsibilities are, or why I need to be concerned about something "off-site". (By "off-site" I assume you mean means something that's not on or part of the Gas Buddy website; am I correct in that regard?)

A weired thing happened while adding links to the STL. I pushed something in IE9 and word wrap disappeared! Then after I managed to get it back, all the subjects from F - M were in italics (surrounded by //)! I didn't push any I's or //'s. Damned computers.

Anyone with any material suitable for even a small part of a GB site/app tutorial is encouraged to PM/whiteboard me. Also needed is an outline of what subjects such a tutorial should cover. Polishing (grammar, spelling, punctuation and layout) services are available, so don't be shy.

The Sandbox has been improved. It has been divided into three pages so that no sandbox testing will stomp on the instructions. The instructions have been fleshed out.

I have slacked off in the last week in catching up the links of past suggestions, but this is merely due to the boredom of it all. I shall soldier on.

Semantics CK. The best way to find out if anyone is looking at a site is a hit tracker.

Interesting. Hit trackers are free and can be added to any site. One would think if one puts the time and effort into building a web site they would want to know if anyone is bothering to look at it. I know for every site I have built I have had a hit tracker.

I screwed up, but have recovered. When I saw that it was easy to just copy links from GB.com instead of using my local site and changing the time zone, I did just that for a few suggestions. Mistake! What I did was pollute the database that could have been easily corrected by simply adding 3 hours to every time (that was so far linked) by inserting a few links from GB.com that did NOT need adding the 3 hours. Which was which? No way of telling except by checking every single link by hand.

It wasn't a total loss, because there were about a half a dozen of them that had errors (gasbuddy.com.com, gsbuddy.com and the like and a few markup errors). Oh, well, it only took about a day's work. But now I'm back to adding the links that haven't been added yet. Then when that's caught up, the last few pages of the category need to be indexed and done. Easy peasy, lemon difficult.

The time zone problem has been solved by using gasbuddy.com (vs. a local site) for all list maintenance work. All times in the STL will be translated to Eastern in the next week. Users searching for topics by OP time should use Eastern time. Dates must take into account the time zone as well.

IE8 also slows Wikispaces down to a crawl like Public Web Browser does. Like Chromium, Chrome works fine. Rule: Always use the shiniest browser.

If I have a link to add to a topic that is already in the STL, I just [Ctrl-F] search the list, which is a single page. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

If I have an unlinked topic in the list, I have to search the forum index. A given topic will be in the index at some date after the OP. This requires searching each page individually. But sometimes no joy. "Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult."*

Usually they'd get locked, but not deleted, after they've aged.

What are you using to find them? Do you have an old URL that no longer works, or are you using a search engine on keywords, or something else?

I always reduce forum links to the basic "/forum_msg.aspx?category=XXX&topic=YYY" (and have never seen any problems occur from doing so).

It looks like the &page_no parameter is just used to provide the system with a "return to" page number so that you get back to the correct page of the index when you linked to the topic from the index in the first place. So it can be left off the links as well as the &FAV parameter.

Anyone see any other uses for these?

BTW, at least on these library PCs, the Wikitext Editor behaves like an old Teletype machine: you push a key and about a half a second later, it shows the character you typed. Just like with the TT machine, there is something that makes not being in synch with the machine disconcerting, so you soon slow down to match the machine. This is not conducive to whacking out the product lickety-split.

There is nothing to "resolve;" it is just the time to put in the links. Since I am only willing to put in less than an hour a day on this drone work (in addition to keeping up with new topics), it will be slow going.

So, we have one vote for the not-in-line format. Be aware that this will cause the list to be extremely looooooooooooooong, which should be a factor in any decision. On the pro side, it will make seeing which subject has the most topics as plain as day. Any reformatting will occur down the road after the category has been completely indexed and linked.

With regards to the URL to be put in the links, I can't see any difference in which site should be used, so I have standardized on gasbuddy.com vs. any local site. There were no issues, per se; I was just asking if anyone could think of an issue.

He has a couple of links - I think they are not all there as he was trying to resolve an issue. I think he said he would be adding them.

"Beginning Sunday, I will start playing catch-up with the links as well as finishing indexing the older half of the category's topics (beyond Page 13). This will take a while! "

Scout: "Will either be able to link back to the topic listed? "
I think CK ran into a few issues due to the many different "sites" we all sign on to from our home base.

It is discussed on the old thread. The links will take you to another page but not necessarily your home log in. That shouldn't be a problem. I see he has at least one link working and suspect it will take time to add the rest.

I don't know if Wikispace can post spreadsheets, but that would be good option as well, but alternately, I like format two from the sandbox.
