But even if searching my member it doesn't take you to their post, unless I'm missing something.

This would be similar to "following" someone on social networks, which is different from sending PMs or reading their whiteboards. So why not call it that: following, which you could do by clicking a handle on the My Buddy list. An added check box would be in a new row called Follow. For someone who didn't want to be followed, following would be another level of privilege assigned when someone was accepted as a Buddy.

I guess I could understand wanting to see everything a buddy commented on, but if you're checking shared topics, or have developed shared interests, wouldn't using the whiteboard or messaging suffice?

The search for posts by member name might mean something if they could be sorted by date and member. As it is, if I were to search for posts by an individual member, the first on the list could even be something said member posted in a year ago, and said post could be several pages down the list and no longer even visible to us. It not isn't perfect, it is almost useless for anything more than a few hours old in an active thread. But, since we have been asking for improvements in the search capability as long as we have been members, with no success, it seems such requests are not being seriously considered.

At the top of the forums there is a box where you can enter a member's handle an search for topics they started or have post in. While this isn't perfect, it's the best thing at the moment.
