I have always known that all vehicles are female. And I was just reminded of this again. How else would a car know that you were looking at other cars?

I was taking my wife to her doctor's appointment the other day when the SUV started making a "bad" noise - as if there were any other - and was emitting a foul odor, as if burning brakes. (But I was stopped in a left turn lane, not moving.) There were no idiot lights on, and engine temp was normal.

As I prayed to the deity of my choice to please let me get through the (busy) intersection and into the parking lot, smoke started coming from under the hood.

I got to the parking lot (of the doctor) and lifted my smoking hood. (Probably a REALLY stupid thing since if it were a "real" fire, I could have been badly burned.) And it looked like the belt was smoking from near the air conditioning compressor.

OK, long story short - too LATE now, Bob - car got towed to my mechanic's shop. Compressor had ceased - is that the correct spelling of the word, as in "to stop working".

Decision time. 187K miles. 2002 Isuzu Axiom - Google that stuff! $2500+/- $500 to fix the air conditioning AND do a 100K mile service - timing belt, water pump, plugs, wires, and all that stuff.

What do you do?

Good afternoon, Buddies!

Was at the local supermarket an hour ago. Noticed a Chevy Blazer with what seemed to be out-of-date seasonal message on its windows, kinda Chrismas-y, with "Peace on Earth" and "Jesus is the Reason for the Season". Got me to thinking that second message would be so apropos for this Easter season if it read, "Jesus is the Risen of the Season."

Have a great evening!

Blessed Sunday, everyone.

And thanks for thoughts on a vehicle. My wife has a Subaru Legacy. I like the vehicle, even the CVT. But it really needs more power.

So, I'm looking at VW, Tiguan, CC, and GTI, all with their 4Motion system.

Then I saw the Mazda CX-5. And the new Jeep Cherokee. I'm not about to buy the first year of any vehicle, so the Jeep is out. Plus I am convinced that buying a good used vehicle is the way to go.

Good afternoon all. My wife has a 2007 Ford Escape XLT that we bought in 2008. She really likes it, and was even looking at getting another one. That and she does like the Dodge Journey.
As Oreole says the Fusion is a nice car. I like the looks of them but don't have an experience with it. I think you're right Oreole about the lawsuit with Hyundai. I know my truck don't get near the gas mileage it's suppose to either. I've found that with a lot of vehicles too. They don't get what they report. But of course they say it's under perfect conditions. Probably driving the exact speed limit, good roads, etc.

I'm on my second Subaru, this 1 a Tribeca which is a larger SUV. We bought for comfort on the drives to Florida. We had the first which was a small 4 cylinder for 10 plus years with no major problems so went back to the same dealer. Very happy with this vehicle. You could consider their Forester although I have no idea what it might cost in the states. Depends on your feelings about foreign cars. I had a Mazda 323 for over 12 years with excellent performance as well so pretty much look at Japanese cars and plenty of them are built here.

After about 24 years of owning various GM products, the last 10 in a Chev Monte Carlo SS, I recently purchased a gently used Ford Fusion SPORT AWD. By going used, I was able to afford this loaded car which came with EVERY option available. And, I couldn't be happier with my decision, except the gas mileage, but that should've been expected with this model's 265 horsepower 3.5 engine I wanted.
The city/hwy fuel numbers listed for this vehicle are just a dream. My combined usage numbers are coming in higher than the stated city number. But, I guess this is more common than it used to be. I believe there is even a lawsuit, started against Hyundai I think, about the "unachievable" numbers.

Went to the local auto show tonight. Lot's of nice vehicles on display. And obviously I haven't bought a new car in a while. Wow, the prices are really up there! So, I guess I need to talk to my mechanic and see how much the next 100K mile service will cost.

And since everyone has an opinion, I'll solicit yours. If you were going to buy an all wheel drive vehicle, sedan, hatchback, smaller-ish SUV, $30K-ish price, what would you look at?

I'll give you my list after.
