OK, I download NoScript and the first site it blocked was this one. Yes, I told it not to block this site. Could not even post.

VanKY, I think I used NoScript once before but had problems with it. I'm going to try it again. I can always remove it, if need be. Thanks for the info and help. You are great to help us with our questions.

Alaric, I don't understand your comment "even with Iolo". I thought we were talking
about a Linux machine. I remember Iolo software as being written for Windows machines. I used to run "Iolo System Mechanic", for example. So you have me completely confused here.

I will also need to be reminded of the make and model of your computer, but as I remember it looked to be a fairly fast machine with enough memory and a dual CPU,
so I fail to understand why you would experience it is a 'slow' computer to begin with. We would have to get more specific, so far as 'slow doing what?'

I don't know enough about Farmville and other online games to know how memory
intensive and CPU intensive they are. Wouldn't really know what to expect to begin with.

It would help me if you drew comparisons, like "slower than it was on xyz other Windows machine" and if I knew the specs of that other computer platform I could
maybe then start to draw some inferences...

So right now I have no clue if what you are seeing is normal or not, could be entirely normal. Maybe that game needs a real fast CPU and goms of RAM to run well,
also a fancy and expensive video card...?

Yes, it's a mozilla/firefox addon ('extension').

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/privacy-security/
I recommend NoScript most highly- five stars! It's worth learning how to
use it. Basically, on a lot of sites you are used to, they will appear to
not be working when you load them with FF+NoScript. Then you go and look for
a pop up list of things it is blocking and figure out which to allow. Find
the NoScript logo somewhere on your browser- it's usually in the upper RH corner.

Examples of things to allow- say you went to a (fictional) site called
"website.com". You see it is not working like usual. Your popup list shows an
item reading "allow website.com". You click on that and it gets allowed.
You could also temporarily allow a site to run scripts, it's your decision-
allow this session or permanently. Or not at all, never...

Meanwhile, you may also see items in the list like "doubleclick.com"
You never allow doubleclick.com because they are a scummy 'aggregator'
who spies on folks and creates profiles of their online browsing habits-
and then sell that info to other companies online who use the info to try
to target you and sell you things it thinks you are likely to buy.
So items like that you leave alone- NoScript is automatically blocking
any and all sites that try to run scripts in your browser unless you
specifically allow them to, site by site, item by item.

If you wsant to install NoScript, you click on the button to install.
After a moment, it is downloaded, then you click "Install now". You likely
have to shut down and then restart Firefox for it to then take effect.
Firefox will prompt you to do that.

BTW you mention games- is this online games? Under Linux? Or are you on a machine running Windows? Are we talking about the machine I helped you load Linux on?

Online games also put you at risk, just like a poorly protected browser.
