Good evening JM

Not so quick of a hello tonight.

Had a great evening with the Mrs. and Dylan this evening as Trick or Treat took place in Middlebourne tonight. I'm enjoying a Twizzlers right now. Emily, at almost 13, has decided that she's done with dressing up:-( Yeah, I know, this day was coming.

Was unable to get the jukebox tunes out last night. So, let's get caught up. Don't worry, I have extra quarters if anyone needs them.

What haven't I already said about this guy. Greatest selling album of all time, seven top 40 singles from this album, and the late, legendary Vincent Price doing a "rap" on this tune. As close to rap as I'll do on the jukebox. The actual video runs about 14 minutes long so I decided we'd go with a home made version with emphasis on the song.

Michael Jackson - "Thriller"

The second Halloween-themed tune was a huge hit for this guy in 1981. It was sampled in 2009 by Kid Rock and that particular version sits atop my list of songs I absolutely hate. The original Warren Zevon song is one of my all time favorites. How can you go wrong with lines like "I saw a werewolf drinking a Pina Collada at Trader Dick's?"

Warren Zevon - "Werewolves Of London"

Halloween wouldn't be Halloween without this classic from 1962. And this one does have a cute video with it.
Bobby "Boris" Pickett - "Monster Mash"

Finally, the regular weekly Jukebox entry.

For this week's regular jukebox entry, I came across some fascinating trivia connected with it. The song is "Ghostbusters" from Ray Parker Jr. In some countdowns it peaked at #2 being kept out of the top spot by "When Doves Cry" from Prince for the movie Purple Rain in 1984. When the sequel to Ghostbusters came out in 1989, Bobby Brown was called upon to make the single from it. It also peaked at #2 being kept out of the top spot by.... you guessed it, Prince. He was a #1 with "Batdance" from the movie "Batman." No other artist has performed this unique feat and was a definite one in a billion shot for the Pop charts. Have a safe and happy Halloween buddies. See you back here after we flip the calendars and set the clocks back.

Good morning, JM,

Watch out for that colder weather coming this weekend! There's a possibility of snow in the northern parts of GA, so I'm guessing you could get some, too. :(

Plans for this weekend? Well, Emma's final cheer game is tomorrow at noon (in LG) and hubby and I will go...and that's about it!

My agenda for this morning....chiro, Mom's, gas station, home. :) Hopefully, short and sweet.

Have a great day!

Claudie - Good morning. I did see turtles relative on the main page on the link to Noah's Ark. Do you have any special plans for the weekend?

trevor - Good morning and hi de ho.

Good morning, JM,

Oh, boy! Is the weather ever supposed to change today (yours, too?)! Going from temps in the high 70s (the past few days) to highs only in the mid-60s! Quite a change! Looking forward to it, though. :)

Oooops! I made a boo-boo yesterday and left the wrong link to Noah's Ark! :( Here's the right one.....Noah's Ark, and would you look at that! There's one of TUrtLE's relatives right on their home page! :)

Today I'll be going to the stores and that'll be about it. :)

Just an early reminder....this weekend's when we turn our clocks back an hour.

Have a great day!

Claudie - Good morning. I checked out your link to Noah's Ark, cool. Did not know that about raisins versus bananas. Enjoy your day.

Good evening JM

Grand Central Mall in Parkersburg opened in 1972 about the time I was born. One of the original tenants was radio station WXIL that went on the air in 1975. They had big plexiglass windows that allowed you to watch your favorite DJ's spinning the tunes. Every time we went there I was glued to the windows. That was my initial inspiration to follow music and radio the way I do now.

Tonight's jukebox extra is not really a Halloween tune. The title goes along with the Halloween theme, though. As DT would say, it's one of those songs that the radio just doesn't play anymore. Even the o*dies stations. It was a #3 hit in 1968.

Good morning, JM,

LOL! You're right! No lost game THIS coming Sunday!

When I talked to Mom yesterday afternoon, she told me that the head cook (who likes Mom) is trying to get some more rich-in-potassium foods/drinks to/for her. :) I didn't know this, but raisins have waaaaay more potassium in them than bananas do! So looks like Mom could be eating more raisins, which she DOES like. Yay!

Speaking of Mom, I'll be taking her to the store this morning, just a little earlier than I usually do. That's b/c we want to make sure she gets back home before they take a trip to Noah's Ark. They've been there before for a picnic and a visit with some of the animals. Mom's hoping for the same, but a visit to see MORE of the animals! It'll be a fun trip for them again. :)

Have a great day!

trevor - Good morning and hi de ho.

Dino - Malls came about later in my life, I remember the first indoor mall in Atlanta. Yes, we had a great time at Kings Island, the roller coasters were great. I have seen advertising on the Wendy's BBQ, I am glad to hear that you enjoyed it.

Good evening JM

Drive inns were on their way out as I was growing up. By the time I was driving age (1988), the mall and the local parks were the hangouts on the weekends. The Jungle was the last of it's kind in the area. I had been to the Sundowner at an earlier age and went to the Kanauga Drive Inn just outside of Galipolis, OH to see Shrek 2 with former Mrs. Dino. Unfortunately, I heard recently that one was bulldozed in 2012.

Thanks for the congrats on Emily's performance. Looks like King's Island was fun for you guys. I can say I've been there and The Beach Waterpark just across I-71 from there. They're about 4 hours from Parkersburg.

Monday evening here and have already made one trip to Moundsville today. We stopped in to pick up some basketball shoes for Dylan as he will return to the hardwood this winter for his second season. He found a pair he liked and then, as we're heading back toward home, he discovers the two shoes he has are different styles. Luckily we hadn't gone far and did a U turn to get him two that matched. We stopped off at Wendy's for some dinner and I got the opportunity to try their new BBQ pulled pork sandwich. I got the smoky barbeque sauce and it was good. I do recommend it.

Dino's Jukebox is playing extras all this week featuring Halloween-themed tunes. The first selection comes from one of the originators of "Shock Rock" because of his elaborate stage shows. His first releases date back to 1969 with his first solo work starting around 1975. In the late '80s and early '90s he was perceived as a hard rock artist although that's not always been the case. It's time to enter the Halloween-themed Dino's Jukebox with a simply courteous welcome...

Good morning, JM,

There's not much to say about the Falcons, is there? :(

I think we've been having Indian summer these last few days and including today; temps have been about 10° warmer than normal for this time of the year (in the high 70s/low 80s). Supposedly that'll end after today and the temps will get back into the low-to-mid-70s where they belong. Looking forward to the cooler temps again. At least it's also been sunshiny with just about no clouds in the sky at all; just a gorgeous blue, blue sky! :)

Late this morning, I am having some dental work done; according to the dentist, it shouldn't take to long to do. Sure hoping so. :)

Have a great day!

Good evening JM

I'd be willing to chip in for Scooby Snax to fix this mystery.

A schedule conflict prevented me from taking the car down to get checked out this weekend. It was Emily's last basketball game for the Fall league as well. It was a loss, but Emily did get 2 points, 1 steal, and a couple of rebounds in the game that stayed close, but the girls came up short losing 19-13.

While I was down there, got some pictures as well to pass along to you. If you have trouble getting to these, I will eventually make them available on an album here and on FB as well. I have plenty to upload for here, just a matter of taking the time and getting the house computer working. The internet is currently disconnected on it.

Former Stout's Pharmacy They were locally owned since they opened their doors in 1897. They finally closed in 2013. The pharmacy was to the right, and a coin shop was in the space to the left.

Stout's Pharmacy Sign when they closed they wiped the letters off both the side of the building and off this sign. You can make out just barely that they were established in 1897.

Former Jungle Drive Inn Theater This was the last of the drive inns in the area. This one went dark after the 2013 Summer season.

Dudley's Florist If this looks like a 7-11 to you, it's because it used to be one. Dudley's used to be across the street from this until fire destroyed the location in 1998. Not sure about the connection, but they are located at, approprietly, 2300 Dudley Ave.

Mother Earth Foods This place is alive and well and has been in business since the 1977. They specialize in herbal supplements and organic foods.

Sports, other than Emily's basketball team, did well this weekend with every football team, except for Tyler Consolidated, I follow winning this weekend.

Warm temps ahead of us this week. Temps pushing 70 through the week. Time to get this work week kick started. L8R

Good morning, JM,

I am guessing you had a good trip to Cincinnati. How long does the drive take? When does your granddaughter's band perform?

No special plans to go out anywhere today. Hubby and I won't be going to Emma's 2nd-to-the-last cheer game; it's about an hour away again (like last week). We'll just be staying home. Might even get in some porch time today. :)

Have a great day!

Good morning, JM,

Thank goodness I got Mom home (late yesterday afternoon)! She even made it back for her dinner at the ALF. So glad this is over. Well, sorta; will have to call the doctor's office and make an appointment for a follow-up visit.

I'll call Mom after that to tell her the time and date of the appointment, and to see how she's doing. She should be able to participate in the morning exercise and the lunch trip to Steak 'n' Shake. She's been looking forward to both.

All I can say for me is that I am ready to get back to my 'regular' days, and it starts with TODAY! Thank goodness!

Have a great day!

Good morning, JM,

That would be nice if you could get one of your kids to mow the grass. :)

The past 2 days have surely be eventful as Mom unexpectedly went into the hospital (Tuesday evening). Her sodium and potassium numbers were VERY low again and needed to be 'fixed' right away. Thankfully, as of yesterday's readings, the numbers ARE coming up. :)

So this day is kind of in limbo as hubby and I wait to see if/when Mom can go home from the hospital; hoping her potassium and sodium numbers are close to 'normal' and we can get her home. IF that's the case, we're guessing maybe later this afternoon. Surely hoping so!

Have a great day!

Good evening JM
The saga continues.

Got a call last week from the garage that I've taken the Dodge to for the pesky blinker problem. They came up with an idea to reprogram the codes on the power module using a computer from a former dealership they are in touch with in Parkersburg. I'd heard of the dealership and decided "At this point, what do we have to lose?" Mrs. K took it down today and, yes, you guessed it. Same result. To quote our own ohyeah, "GRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

Now the mechanic wants to take a couple of days to trace the wiring and look a bit closer on the situation. They said they wouldn't order a new part for the fact that they can't return it unlike the used parts they've tried. Luckily, the mechanic did not charge us today since they didn't get the problem fixed. But I know he's got to be as frustrated as we are.

With all this in mind, I'm taking tomorrow night off meaning you get Dino's Jukebox tonight. The "Q" artist does not have "Queen" in their name anywhere.

Tonight's tune comes from the year 1966 and has been claimed to be the tune that started the punk rock movement. The band took it's name from a 1957 Japanese film titled "The Mysterian" in which aliens from the destroyed planet Mysteroid try to conquer planet Earth.

The song was a #1 smash in 1966 selling over a million copies and is ranked #213 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest rock songs of all time. The band is headed by lead singer Rudy Martinez who officially goes by the name "Question Mark" or "?" I guess he beat Prince to being referred to as a symbol by over 30 years.

Q - Question Mark & The Mysterians - "96 Tears"

Have a great weekend buddies. If all goes well, see you Monday night at the earliest.

Claudie - Good morning. My lawn needs mower but, I will not be able to get to it until next weekend. Maybe, one of kids will come by and mow it...we will see.

Dino - Gas prices are nice, we have a few places here that is selling gas for less than $2.60 per gallon. The lowest price that I have seen is $2.54 and Speedway and $2.58 at Sam's.

Good evening JM

Claudie the Trick Or Treat at the ALF sounds like a good time had by all.

For the first time in about 3 1/2 years, we are paying under $3.00 for a gallon of gas. I remember back when Hurricane Katrina made landfall in 2005 and we jumped locally from $2.69 to $3.09 just in time for Labor Day weekend. It was sticker shock at it's worst. Technically we're still over in Moundsville, but both Kroger and Speedway are advertising $3.02 with 3 cents off with their rewards cards. Never thought I'd be rejoicing over $2.99/gallon.

The kids got the house decorated for Halloween. The neighbors used to be nortorious for going all out, but they have since moved and left the house abandoned. I guess that's a Halloween decoration all its own.

Next week, I'll be putting the jukebox into overdrive. I've got some Halloween-themed tunes to play throughout the week and will be able to play one by an "R" artist on Thursday. I'll save the suspense, it's Ray Parker Jr.

Rainy day here. Temps have dropped into the 40s for the evening. Time to grab and extra blanket. L8R

Good morning, JM,

Nice to have a not-so-special/busy day. :)

The yard got done and is all purtied up, though, as soon as the yard guy was done with everything, some new leaves started to drift right down on the 'cleaned' yard! <shakes head>

It's Tuesday, so I'll be taking Mom to WM, though, a little earlier than normal. We have to go to the doctor's office first to get blood drawn for her monthly protimes check (oh, please, please, please, be a good reading!!). Then I'll take her to the store and hope to get her back in enough time for an 'event' at the ALF...a local pre-school group is visiting (they also did last year), and they'll be 'trick-or-treating' up and down the ALF's hallways (each resident will be given a bag of candy to give out). Everybuddy involved loves it! :)

For me, after dropping Mom off at her place, I'll be on my way home, too. :)

Have a good day!

Claudie - I am very disappointed with the Falcons performance, they can do better. Nothing special for today, enjoy yours.

Dino - I see that your Steelers did win the game last night, congratulations. I will mow this weekend, it has cooled down here with highs in the upper 70s to the lower 80s. Fall is here.

Good evening JM

Definitely the last time this year for me. Nothing like running a riding mower with misty rain and 55 degrees. Didn't break a sweat this time around.

Trying to find the Steeler game radio broadcast this evening. No luck. Their flagship station, WDVE in Pittsburgh, will come in, but faded and they will not stream the broadcast online. I've settled for checking the score off and on.

Mild temps and off and on rain this evening. L8R

Good morning, JM,

Another loss for the Falcons. Heads are going to roll soon, I betcha! :(

It's going to kinda be a busy day for us. First the yard guy will come and take care of things, and then hubby will be going with me to a consultation about some dental work I'm probably going to have done. That appointment is at 2:30 up near where Mom lives. Hope it's not too long.

Have a good day!

Good evening JM

Looked like your weekend was packed. Love the fb pictures. I believe it was homecoming weekend for Parkersburg South as well.

Slow weekend for me. Got the yard mowed for the last time this season. Tried to run the gas out of the mower and will look into added some Staybill that my Dad recommended. He's my lawn mower expert.

Wanted to touch base about my long Thursday. Emily's Parent Teacher Conference went well. She is sitting on 4 A's and 4 B's with one of the B's being a 92%. A 93% is needed for an "A". Grades close this week for the first nine week grading period of the year. Got to pick her brain as we were in there for over an hour. This was one of my only chances to see what she's doing in school and how she's doing it. I love going to the basketball games, but I've tried to emphasize that the grades come FIRST. As I told her in a text "Good Grades=Basketball."

Speaking of basketball, will have two teams to follow this up and coming season. The first one is obvious as the Lady Bobcats will take the court in about 6 weeks. Probably less. The second one is the Knights of the Middlebourne Youth League. Dylan has signed up to play again this year so it'll be two sets of games to go to. Yes, I'm giddy about this. Another team we'll be watching is the Lady Patriots of Parkersburg South High School. Their starting lineup from last year will return this year as Seniors. They should be poised to make another run for the state title in class triple A. I promised Emily we'd go to Charleston if they go back to the title game.

Cooler days for us. Daytime temps in the 50s. Daybreak not until after 7 AM right now. Back to work tonight for me. Have a great Monday buddies.

Claudie - Good morning. We will attend Wheat Street Baptist Church today, this is where my cousin is pastor and a Morehouse graduate. We had a nice time on yesterday, we did not win the game against Albany State from Albany Ga, but, we had a great time.

trevor - Good morning and hi de ho.

Good morning, JM,

What a gorgeous day it was yesterday for the open house/festival at the ALF! Sunshiny (and a blue-blue sky), about 75° and a slight breeze. Nice!

It was just hubby and me who showed up there from my family, but we had a good time sitting with Mom, just talking, visiting with other residents and their families, and, of course, eating lunch. It felt so good to just be sitting out in that wonderful sunshine!

I saw your pix on FB of you guys at the game. So who won?

I am staying home today. I have a few 'things' to finish up, and then hubby and I will be watching (on TV) the Falcons play in Baltimore at 1 PM; he'll check out the race at commercial times. :) Other than that, no other special plans. :)

Have a great Sunday!

Good morning, JM,

Today is the ALF's Fall Festival, and, thank goodness, it's going to be a gorgeous day for it...sunny and about 75°. Hubby and I will be going about 11 and staying for a while. It's always great to see everybuddy having such a fun time. :)

Good luck to Morehouse today! Who do they play?

Have a great day!

Claudie - Good morning. We left Chattanooga after Alex got out of school, we would have checked her out early but, she had band practice. Looking forward to the game.
