Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Bril...we are BACK! And what an adventure! As Duane's sister's say...A day with Duane is ALWAYS an adventure. The biggest part of the adventure is as follows:

We got back to MCity and home by 3am and that was after we left Huatulco at 3pm Wed!!!!! Our driver picked a really nice way on a very good 2 lane road through the mountains. By 5pm we came upon a huge line of traffic stopped going in our direction. We waited several hours with no word as to what was the issue even though cars were headed toward us. We just didn't know if they had just given up and turned around, or what. No one even tried to find out how long the line was! By 9pm we were to committed to stay the night! We didn't hear any gun fire, so we were quite certain we weren't in any REAL danger. Duane said he had heard reports from sometime ago that teachers were putting up road blocks in protest for higher wages. So, we spent the night on the bus...in a very remote area w/ only a very, very small community behind us about a mile or so. We sat on our bus as we watched other tour buses which had probably turned around and leaving through the night. Many Mexicans were seen walking toward the blockade and it was hard to determine if they could get through. What a mess! No food or water except the little bit each of us brought. And no bathroom facilities! Thankfully, the night was warm enough to be in the bus which wasn't running. Outside, a jacket was sufficient.
In the morning, the leaders thought it best to head back and take a different route. The inherent danger was that another blockade could have been erected while we were standing still. Fortunately, we were able to make our way to safety. However, would anyone demand a stop for something to eat??? NO! We stopped for more fuel, but only some very sketchy shops had anything worth buying. We got some nice local bread to eat with our water.
All this was happening as Duane was coming down with a chest cold which started during the night before we left Huatulco. He is fighting it still with a bad cough.

I had such a great time. We swam at a total of 5 different beaches on this adventure. I got to see some wonderful sea life including turtle nests that had caution tape around for preservation.

Now, to rest up for the next adventure!

Have a super evening, buddies

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Cooler here today and somewhat cloudy. We are getting ready for a week's vacation on the west coast. I don't know if we'll have internet, so this may be the last of my messages.

Have a super day, buddies

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Bril...We are having a great time! Chicago was our brief stop-over for the flight to Duane's other house...remember last year? I'll be here for 2 more weeks. The weather is in the low 70s EVERY day and quite cool at night. I'll try to keep up with GBs, but might be difficult as we are going many places.

Have a safe and fun trip, too, Bril.

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

The temps have moderated and the snow on the ground has changed texture...so, we went X-country skiing in Duane's backyard. Got about an hour of good exercise!

Now to pack and head to his sister's in IL. Really looking forward to our visit!

Hi Beach!

Gee, that was quite a story. :-)) So glad things turned out ok. You do lead a very active life!!....lol. Gee, probably many lessons learned from that experience! Number 1 for me is to always try and keep my iPhone on me.

Well, no snow for us. It's 50° with rain here this morning / today. High of 67° today.

Have a great week Beach!

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Well, the unthinkable happened to me...Duane dropped me off about 11:15pm and I decided right then and there that I'd go to the cottage for final check before my trip. I packed and drove there, dragged all my bags across deep snow and up the very snowy steps, did some shoveling so I could get in and then dragged the bags into the cottage. I thought it would be a good idea to do just a bit more shoveling to get the steps in shape. I closed the door and got that done, went to the door and found it was LOCKED! ALL my things were in there...my purse, my keys, my cell phone, my computer....everything! It was then about 1:15am. NOW WHAT??? I did some more shoveling while I contemplated how I could fix this, when the neighbor's kitchen light went on. I managed to rouse her and she let me in. She let me use her cell phone to try to call Duane and he must have been sound asleep. My neighbor invited me to sleep on her couch and I finally got to sleep by 3am. Around 7am I was able to reach Duane and we worked out sort of a plan. That was a great relief and I was able to get another hour or so of sleep. With nothing to eat or drink, I got up and went out into the BEAUTIFUL morning to get the driveway opened up enough for Duane to walk back from the street w/o wading through the deep snow. After about 2 hrs, I made it to the street...no Duane. So, I went back to my neighbor's to use her phone again and Duane didn't answer. But about 15 min later, there he was. The first thing out of his mouth was: Forget the house, let's go ice fishing!!! He is so fantastic! However, he went to work and found that the patio door was the easiest least possible entry w/o damaging too much. I WAS IN!!
I ate a little something and then we went out to the lake to see the ice and all the fishermen. There were at least 50 shelters up on Muskegon Lake and many more w/o the shelters. He was so tempted to get out there. But, alas, he had to make his way to his place in the Detroit area and see his sons and do some work. I'll see him on Thurs.

Well, so much for all the excitement for this weekend!!

Have a safe and pleasant day, buddies

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Bril...did you see the national weather news? I was told by Larry that our heavy Arctic Clipper made the news. I had to go downtown by 7 tonight and it wasn't too nice then. When I left, it was REALLY bad! Luckily, not many cars on the roads but all the little hills were nearly impossible. Also, the visibility was almost 0.

Hope you are all well and safe.

Bril...Yes, after a good eye-washing and rest, things are a lot better, thanks. I think I'll try to wear my contacts tomorrow.

It's so bitter cold...can't wait for warmer weather SOON! Won't be long, now.

Stay warm, Bril.

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Bril...OH IT'S COLD!!! Even colder tomorrow! I worked today and will again tomorrow. I had a big problem driving today...had something in my eye I just couldn't get out. A couple of times I had to pull over...it was awful! By the time I reached Duane and gave him my SAD story, the crying I did seemed to help a great deal. Here I am tonight and things are better, but not perfect. With a good nights sleep, I think I'll be ok... :((

Hi Beach

Now flooring.... you're always busy, that's for sure.

After a day in the mid 70s Sunday, today we'll have normal temps in the mid 50s. BUT, extremely cold for us by Thursday, when daytime highs will only be in the 30s. Highly unusual for us.

Have a great week Beach!

Hi Beach

Hope you had a nice Christmas/birthday celebration with Duane's family. We had something similar here with Amy's boyfriend after we returned home from Virginia.

A warm, breezy and stormy 72° this morning. Bands of heavy rain, reminiscent of a tropical storm.

Have a great Sunday AND week Beach!

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Bril...I'm guessing you're having a splendid time with your family. I surely am. Yesterday, we walked in the mist and rain the tourist streets of Franklin TN. I had a great Southern fried chicken meal for lunch and we walked some more, going into every interesting shop. Dark comes around 5:15 and we finally decided to head back when my granddaughter suggested it would be fun to go ice skating. We found a place that offered open skate at 7:30 so we decided to hang around and try it out. After a couple of more shopping stops, we got our admission and skates. At first I didn't think this would be something I'd really want to do as it's been probably 30+ yrs since I had skates on! But, I was eager to see if I had any of my old abilities left. It was very tenuous at first, but after several go-arounds, I managed to gain some confidence. Amazingly enough, I got better and better...wish you could see the video. I'm sure I was the only one on the ice who had someone calling out: Grammy, look at me!!!! With some rests here and there, I managed about 1.5 hrs. The rented skates were in beautiful condition, but boy, did they hurt my feet...LOL!

For our drive home dinner, we found a CHECKERS that my DIL was thrilled to find since she's not had their food for about 5 or more years...since they left GR for Germany!

Today will probably be low-key as I get ready to leave in the morning.

Have a terrific day, buddies

Hi Beach!

Well, we do have several recliners at our house....guess the two in our sunroom are my favorites. But not sitting in either of those, because I'm in Virginia Beach. Sitting at the kitchen table watch Brother-in-law prepare some young tender collards from his garden for the big feast tomorrow. :-))

Wishing you a most wonderful Christmas with Duane and your family as well.

Bril...Thanks. So now, I am picturing you sitting in your favorite easy chair, slumped back in a nice relaxing position, breathing deeply, and taking in all the miracles of Christmas!! Merry Christmas to you and everyone in your family!!!

Off to do my deliveries in a bit...and again tomorrow. After that, Duane and I will head to his Lakeview house and watch his family participate in their church's Christmas celebration. I will be able to officially wish him a Merry Christmas in person and then head to my son's house for a long weekend! I am so pleased that I will actually be with him for a few hours, at least. This was not supposed to happen....small MIRACLES...and a more meaningful, joyeous Christmas!!

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Bril...Today my "baby" turns a ripe old age of 28!! What a blessed day 28 years ago! Wish I could be with him, but he's across the other side of the country.

Had an incredible day w/ Duane yesterday! He rode along for my few deliveries w/ church in between and then, lots of errands done. He is FINALLY into a smart phone! This is unbelievable...took him since Aug when he got the new phone..LOL

We had dinner together, worked on his contacts...old phone is pre-historic...no bluetooth to make transfers possible.

Everything was wonderful!

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

I got to work from Detroit in record time and speeds of not over 75!!

Work was lighter than I expected and will be tomorrow as well. That means I will be able to go to church!

Temps are getting cold at night and I bet we will have snow by Christmas. Hopefully, not so much that I can't drive to TN.

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

I was all prepared to stay at the cottage until I had to go to work this am. BUT...I forgot my glasses so I could change out of my contacts. Therefore, I felt I needed to come home Sunday evening so I wouldn't be uncomfortable in the contacts. Now, I haven't seen Duane and barely talked to him since Tues afternoon. So, who should show up unannounced?? Of course, Duane. If I had been at the cottage, we wouldn't have had time to see each other for a couple of hours. I fixed us dinner, talked about our upcoming trip, and talked about many other things. I NEEDED THIS! I think he's lost his cell phone, so we couldn't even make anything work. WHAT LUCK!

I'll be very busy for the rest of the days before Christmas...working nearly every day! Hope I survive...LOL

Worked late tonight and FINALLY have gotten to the cottage!!! Oh, how I have missed this place! My last break until Christmas Eve! Except a brief trip to Detroit this week to see Duane. Then, Christmas...alone. I did want to go to TN to see my son and DIL and family. Maybe there will be time between Christmas and New Year's Eve. I really need to see family!

Have a happy evening, buddies

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Worked today. One of our drivers hit a deer...8 pt buck! I saw the incident my first drive by, but less than an hour later the deer was gone. Must find out who got it.

Will work tomorrow, too.

My ant bites are finally calming down. I did a LOT of sleeping in the last 24hrs and popping antihistamines.

Have a nice evening, buddies

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Bril...I think I saw the ant mound and it looked like any other ant mound I've encountered. I need to do more research, I guess.

Anyway, I barely made it through the night. My one foot is kinda swollen and seems like more blisters are erupting. Is that normal? I am taking anithistimines and applying some aloe goo for relief. But, I want to go to the gym today! Maybe I'll only swim!

Have a sunny day, buddies

Hi Beach!

Playing golf in the rain...taking backroads to see wildlife....getting eatin' up by fire ants....sounds like home here in Croatan National Forest! ;-) We have loads of fire ants. Good thing is their mounts are pretty easy to spot (once you know what they are!...lol), so they are easy to avoid. But if you do step directly into one, they will tear-you-up! Sorry you're having to endure the misery.

Sunny and 33° currently, to 51° today. Should be at 59.

Hope you're feeling better real soon!!

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

WELL...I have a rip-roaring mess of fire ant bites! Thurs, when we went to Cocoa Beach, I inadvertently stepped on the nest. Nothing seemed amiss until last night when the blisters started to burst. Now, I am in constant itch/pain. I didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night and it still is really bothering me. Since it's so late, I can't get any real help until tomorrow. I hope I can hold out, because I have to go to the nearby hospital mini-lab for my lab work anyway. I hope I can stand this until tomorrow morning.

Have a better night than I am, buddies

Hi Brillo8 and buddies

Bril...We had perfect weather most of our trip...especially on the cruise. The day of the launch proved to be a cloudy, rainy day, but that did not stop us from getting out on the golf course. However, we couldn't finish our 18 and luckily got a rain-check for the rest of it. When we arrived back into Port Canaveral, we sat in McD for internet and waited to see if the rain would stop for us to go back to finish our game. Duane is so gutsy and we took a chance on the rain and played another 5 holes before we absolutely had to get on the road to Orlando airport. Keep in mind the rain didn't really stop and we left pretty wet. Luckily, we had clothes that weren't too heavy so we dried for the most part. Orlando was also rainy and only 65 degrees. On the way back and taking a less traveled road back to Orlando, we saw a big wild boar standing near the road! Thurs, on the same road, we saw 2 Bald Eagles, too. The wild life was giving us lots to see on this trip...making me very happy!

Have a super day, buddies
