Good morning.

grmoore, as an old-time Southern boy, I had to look twice at that "gathering of the clans" remark...and I'm sure you know why.

By the way, dunno if I mentioned this or not, but my grandfather Holmes was a really SHORT, redheaded Scotsman who still spoke with a heavy Scots accent. He died when I was about two, so I never met him, but my dad thought he was King of the World, so I heard a LOT bout him, including Pop's rendition of his accent.

Also, during WWI, my Pop was a Marine stationed aboard the Battleship USS Florida, and he spent quite a lot of time in Scotland when his ship would dock at Scapa Flow; and even though the old man had only an early elementary school education, he learned to love the poetry of "Bobby" Burns --- probably because Burns' "stuff" was so popular in those pubs Pop frequented in Scapa Flow. Burns could, as those of you familiar with his work, could get REALLY raunchy, and my dad just LOVED it.

See where I get my attitudes from?

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

MANY's the time I heard this last verse of "To a Louse":

"O wad some Power the giftie gie us
To see oursels as ithers see us!
It wad frae mony a blunder free us,
An' foolish notion:
What airs in dress an' gait wad lea'e us,
An' ev'n devotion!"

Now how many times have YOU heard that first line and never knew from whence it came?

Now you know.

Y'all keep smiling and working and laughing...me, I gotta a little stuff to do.

Greetings Doc, Baylee, Mindy, PayPump, Mick, WRINC, Joelimo, Geezer, Wack, MadDogUSMC, Loree71, Full of Fun, Chasms, blkvette00, Psycho Sid, & Others:

Happy Monday! 47 degrees this morning - wow, same temps as Chicago! 2.1 mile walk complete.

My wife and I had a wonderful weekend at the Gathering of the Clans at the Stone Mountain Highland Games. My wife has been conducting family history research and has finally found the Scottish clan to which she aligns. We are now members of the Macduff clan. I used the term "align" as there is apparently no direct American clan affiliation for the Primrose family. There continues to be a Primrose Castle in Scotland so the Macduff clan will be our American affiliation because the Primroses are part of this clan. Fun times.

We also spent some time with old friends from my Army Forces Command days (can't believe I have been gone from there nearly 8 years!). We had a great time.

Last night we had dinner with our daughter in Atlanta to catchup. She's doing well.

re: picture - thanks! It was a fun trip.

Off to breakfast and start the day.

Have a great day all!

Loree , quello che hai avuto per la prima colazione?

As to The Booper, the dood's scary-looking enough withOUT the hoodie and the surgical mask. I bet that cop thought he'd found a new "Jack the Ripper."

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

I haven't watched a movie in several years now...probably won't ever watch another one. As to "actors," they should just ply their second-rate trade, rake in their millions, and keep their stupid mouths shut. I used to love Bill Cosby 'til he decided I'm a "hater" or a "racist" or both if I don't worship Obama the way he does. (I DO, however, very much respect his views regarding "his" people --- that they are tearing THEMSELVES down via their actions. There, he is absolutely correct.)

But NO "actor" is going to tell me that "alternative lifestyles" are just fine and that if I don't agree, then I'm a "hater." Hell with that...and hell with THEM! I have just as much right to my opinion as anyone in the world has.

Oh, well....think I'll go read a book, too. I got a copy of "Horton Hears a Who" 'round here somewhere.

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

Psycho, he's fine, it's just a chest cold. But with his respiratory problems, we always have to take care that it does not become pneumonia. This time, however, he seems to be over the worst of it and appears to be getting better.

Sorry, I planned on posting this earlier but then I saw WR's post and had to stick my two cents in. I tend to get sidetracked easily when I am out of Coca-Cola!

This morning's planned activity got shelved rather abruptly. Don has been fighting a chest cold for a week now, and with all his other issues, we monitor ANY congestive condition closely. He felt much better this morning and was exhibiting early signs of "cabin fever". We decided to take the dogs for a nice. long, and invigorating walk. He took Chuy (the chi/pug) and I took Zsa Zsa (the mini-poo).

We get less than 3/4 of a mile from home, and Don starts breathing heavily. We decide that it's time to go home. I offered to take Chuy with me and Zsa Zsa, but Don points out that it is still dark outside and maybe I should wait until later.

By this time, Zsa Zsa has found a place where she wants to make a deposit, so I tell Don to head for home and I will catch up with him. Zsa Zsa takes her sweet time, and it's about three minutes later that I am able to scoop up her deposit and put it in a plastic bag.

After we round the corner, what do we see? A patrol car has stopped and an officer is talking to Don. Seems that a 6'8" man walking a chihuahua in the dark while wearing a hoodie and a hospital mask is npot a common occurence in this town and merits investigation.

WR, I decided not to see Noah, and not just because of the bad reviews. I was told by a few people that it was Biblically inaccurate, but that is not the reason I chose not to watch, either. Russell Crowe has been added to my "boycott" list of celebrities whose movies I will not patronize, nor will I spend one penny of my money on any product or service they endorse or are affiliated with.

Russell Crowe made that list NOT because of his political views, but because I don't think that as a non-citizen, he has the right to criticize or condone any American political issue. His blind allegiance to the Present Resident, and telling the world that Americans should be thankful we have such a man leading our country earned him a top five spot on the list.

Good morning everyone,

We had a good dinner at a favorite restaurant last night, then watched "Noah." While that didn't ruin the spirit of the dinner, the movie was a letdown.

Out of Turgenev and on to a book about either facebook or gas buddies by Dostoevsky called "The Idiot." Read it once a long time ago but didn't catch all the nuances. It's in cheap paperback now if one can call $9.99 cheap, but it's a long one and will put me to sleep for several nights.

Happy Sunday! Up late watching the last of the college football games. Wow, what a finish for the Georgia State and Florida State games.

The Panthers came up short and the Noles hung on.

Doc - yeah, I stay pretty busy. lol

My wife and I had a wonderful time at the Stone Mountain Highland games. We will return tomorrow afternoon. Yep, bagpipes.

I made the Henry County Times - here's the link.
Where in the world is the Times (and Glenn)?

Time to get some sleep. Off to bed.

Bonga flooey, y'all!

(That's Lower Slobbovian for "Good morning.")

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

Oh, well..here we go again, as they say in Washington:

"Another day another seventeen million dollars a minute down a rathole!"

Now you folks be SURE to pay your taxes, huh?

BayleeBug, with our Miss Peppy, it all depends on the "takeoff point." She just flat CANNOT jump onto "her" recliner in the LR from the bare floor, but when I put one of those little non-slip rugs in front of it, she goes up like a bird. Fact is, if somebody's moved her rug, she'll sit there in front of her chair and stare at me until I go over and put the rug back into place.

Grmoore, you're a lot like Joelimo --- y'all just need more stuff to DO!

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

Talk about Type A...that won't get it --- we gonna promote both of you to Type A+.

Howzzat?

LOL LOL LOL, etc., etc.

Thanks, MickD...I'm sure you're right and that's exactly what I intend to do. And I'm actually looking forward to my shot of propofol. Can't even imagine a drug that just turns your lights off immediately.

Oh, well, I'm not working in the yard today, WR-INC, but I do have to go burn some "stuff."

LOL LOL LOL, and so forth.

Good morning!

WR, I bet you are right about Vini's situation. The SO grew up with a very intelligent and stubborn dog, who was probably a corgi mix. As he got older we were told he could no longer jump onto one of the beds in their house, but could still reach the other one. So one day when we were alone there I measured the height of the two beds. Big surprise -- yes, they were both the same height.

Greetings Doc, Baylee, Mindy, PayPump, Mick, WRINC, Joelimo, Geezer, Wack, MadDogUSMC, Loree71, Full of Fun, Chasms, blkvette00, Psycho Sid, & Others:

Happy Saturday! 58 degrees this morning.

Up a bit earlier this morning (for a Saturday) because we're going out to Stone Mountain to see some of the Highland Games Festivities. They brought back the Pipe Bands and the Army National Guard Band also will perform. I participated as the Drum Major for the Army Ground Forces Band (back when I was on active duty) for several years in the late 90's.

Last night, the Georgia State volleyball team won another match 3 games to 1 over Texas State. The team is showing steady improvement and have now won more matches than last year with a few more matches left in the season. Next home match will be next Friday night.

The Georgia State football team travels to and plays the University of South Alabama. I don't expect it to be a fun time for the Panthers. They aren't playing well due in part to lots of injuries and another suspension (academic violation) of at least one key player.

MadDog - thanks.

Doc - you're having way too much fun for my tastes. ;) Will pray everything turns out well.

Off to start the day.

Have a great day all!

Good morning everyone,

Today will be a lawn day, and out for dinner tonight. Netflix sent us "Noah," so for 2-1/2 hours we'll watch that.

I've got to train Vini to use the collapsible steps I bought. I think his reluctance to jump into the car or on the bed is all in his head, but I do want to make things more comfortable in his advanced years.

Bone, I mentioned that quack that did whatever Michael Jackson wanted him to do, which killed the stupid little guy AND what Joan Rivers' quack doctor did that killed the heck out of HER.

I don't have any quack doctors. I'm a gooooood picker!

Meanwhile, I can attest to the fact that a "low carb" diet WILL make a ROCK shed some pounds if "stucken to" properly. I'm not really enjoying my first day of it, but I've "stucken to it" so far. BETCHA' I'm down at least a pound in the AM!

Okay, Blo, now you're gotten rid of your FLOOPER and I'm in the process of tearing down my "tool shed," so start thinking about us moving back into that mansion in Caledonia, huh? You can just leave Number (whatever) there in that lil' house and BOOGIE!

Lemme know when the place in Caledonia is ready --- and be SURE to have the bannister slicked and shined. (Remember?)

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

MAN, oh, MAN, ain't life fun?

LOL LOL LOL, etc., etc.

What in the hell are you guys talking about? Quack doctors?

Doc, don't hand me that balonga that you're on your last leg, ok?

Get some Xanax, everything will be ok with a very low dosage of .25 mg.

I got the floodlights on so I'm going to rake some leaves on the east side of the house.

Later folks!

Met with Doc Cavasos, the "up and down" doctor. He says I'll just come in after fasting for a day or so and drinking a couple of jugs of Suprep to flush my inner terlit; then I'll get onto a table and an anesthesiologist will give me a shot of the same stuff Michael Jackson's doctor gave him and the same stuff that Joan Rivers got from her quack before she died, and then I'll turn off like a light bulb, then wake up fifteen or twenty minutes later as if nothing happened.

Sure hope it works that way, Doc. Just DON'T give me as much as Mike's doctor gave him and don't make whatever mistakes Joan Rivers' quack made with her.

This stuff is actually supposed to be as safe as apirin when given properly, so I'm not at all nervous about it.

After this...and another visit with my dietician, I will then have the final procedure, known as a DEXA scan, I think. Nothing to that --- just lie flat for a while on a metal table. Got something to do with bone density. Who knows?

Later...gotta feed my pups.

Greetings Doc, Baylee, Mindy, PayPump, Mick, WRINC, Joelimo, Geezer, Wack, MadDogUSMC, Loree71, Full of Fun, Chasms, blkvette00, Psycho Sid, & Others:

Happy Friday! 48 degrees this morning.

Walked last night so I decided to sleep in a little this morning before starting work at 9:00a this morning. I'll plan to walk later this afternoon before departing for my Georgia State Volleyball match.

MadDog - yeah; I'm prone to pretty severe ear infections about every 3 years or so and I'm "due" if the cycle continues. This could be a fun time!

As you likely can tell, I get to telework today. At the end of the day yesterday, I had a few meetings (in-person variety) cancel for today so I am able to forego the morning commute. I'll be downtown for the game so will miss the afternoon traffic.

Off to continue the day.

Have a great day all!

Geezer, I don't really care about where I am in the points race. I'm just trying now for 3 million and then I'll sit back and relax for a bit. I was up there about #1000 at one point, went in the horsepistol and decided the life's too short to worry about getting much further on up the line, just aim for the 3 million.

Today I got it right but I still had troubles getting the points on computer--kept forgetting to do it but eventually....

Hey joelimo, glad to see you're still around.

Thanks docputer, you know I owe you for this. I keep getting messages about a hardware video conflict, that there aren't the resources available to allow acceleration. I found newer Intel drivers, but they didn't help.

'Morning.

Gotta get moving after meeting with The LuLu's oxygenator guy and doing some other stuff, so this'll be short.

WR-INC, the drivers disc should be in the mail today from Colorado. Cheaper just to get one from the guy I got mine from than to burn a copy and mail it, anyway --- my treat. Not that I'm the last of the big spenders, but it was cheeeeep, so don't worry about it.

As to the preview, I KNOW it will preserve the drivers, but I just don't know if it'll put the 32-bit version over the top of your 64-bit version. Nice thing about the drivers disc is that it'll determine which version you're using and install the right ones. The only two it DOESN'T install are for that confounded "fingerprint sensor" and for "bluetooth." If you need either of those, you have to track them down on your own. I can help you with that. If I were you, though, I'd just try the preview on an older machine that you don't depend on, because the preview may turn out to be buggy as all heck. So far...to me....it's smooth as glass.

Gotta go....more later!

Chocolate, I've done that on multiple occasion. A person I used to be tied with for points is now 9,000 points ahead of me because of me forgetting to put in prices I'd gathered.

Greetings Doc, Baylee, Mindy, PayPump, Mick, WRINC, Joelimo, Geezer, Wack, MadDogUSMC, Loree71, Full of Fun, Chasms, blkvette00, Psycho Sid, & Others:

Happy Thursday! 58 degrees this morning.

In early this morning as I have to brave the commute solo; I have an early morning meeting to attend.

re: flu shot - yeah, since I'm down to only one antibiotic I can take (allergic to other two), I figured I best not push the limit.

Off to start the day.

Have a great day all!

Good morning everyone,

I'll look at the "preview." If it preserves my drivers, it might be worth it. If it doesn't, well, I might need that disk.

Maybe chocolateflash needs the memory. <g>

Got an idea, WR-InC: Since you're interested in becoming a Windows "Insider" for the new OS, why not just download the 32-bit version and install it OVER the 64-bit Windows 7 you have on the machine? I THINK that'll work, and if not, you can just tell it to forget about what's on there and go ahead with the installation of the 32-bit preview. I just now dowloaded it from MS and put it on a thumb (flash) drive, so all I'll have to do to upgrade these old lappies I have is to plug the thumb drive in, find the .exe file on the preview, and that should do it...and that's right over the top of XP, which I've already done on one computer. As far as I can tell so far, the "preview" is flawless, and it's going to be "legal" at LEAST until April of next year AS IS....free for NOTHING! I like the deal...but I'm not going to put it on my main computer...not yet.

Good night all. Gotta get to the bariatric place tomorrow to talk to a nutritionist. Just what I need!

grmoore....I didn't get a flu shot last year. I am considering getting one this year though.

Doc...Windows 10? Wow....I am still on 7! I gave away my copy of Window's 8! I have 8.1 for this machine but chose to install Windows 7 Professional, which also came with this laptop!

Second day in a row. I've gone out, gotten gas prices, come home and totally forgotten to record them. It's too late now, so I've managed to drop 2400+ points in two days. I'll never get to 3,000,000(my ultimate goal on GB) at this rate. Old age memory loss is creeping up on me.

Nah, the heck with the memory, WR-INC. I've got all I need anyway. As to the video drivers, yeah, I updated as far as it would let me go, and the newer ones are just for "gaming," anyway, so there's no need to mess with them. Do you want a copy of the drivers disc, or can you just download and install most of them from toshiba.com? Sounds to me as if you know what you're doing.

As to Windows 10, they aren't even officially calling it that, but they do...sort of...admit they're junking Windows 8 and 8.1 and just skipping around Windows 9. My guess is that "10" just sounds a lot better. lol You can download the preview from Microsoft.com, but to me at least, it's a WITCH burning the ISO to disc in order to install it. I finally got the 64-bit version done and it works fine, but for some reason, I haven't been able to burn a working 32-bit copy. I will, though...I'm no genius, but I don't give up easily.

docputer,

Wouldn't it be easier if I just sent you the extra 4 gigs? I do like the prospect of testing Windows 10. What happened to 9? BTW, the system balks at the video drivers.
