MAVTV, "Dangerous Waters" whatever channel provider ya have, is a great documentary about expeditions above the Arctic Circle from the former Soviet Union to Alaska and Canada on jetski's.

Somethin' I'm toooo old for!...More of an adventure for geezer.

The Great Lakes icy waters are enough for El Psycho Bone.

I gotta make a pot of coffee, later folks.

Wish I could "git hold" of it, MickD. As I told one of my favorite sisters-in-law yesterday, I have NEVER got hold of one I couldn't fix.

Thing is, this lady is going to give me her old POS Dell "all-in-one" because some nerd at Best Buy or some other dumbo 'puter store convinced her it'd cost more to fix it than it would to buy a new Asus or whatever she ended up with.

Suits me! It may be a while before I get it, BUT I'll bet HERE AND NOW and sight unseen that I can fix the thing using only the "good junk" I have right here in my office --- surrounded by ten laptops and three or four desktops.

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

Hey, Geezer...not sure yet, but I THINK the POS she's throwing my way is a Dell all-in-one.

Later...got old dead chicken on the grill. Somebody bought some chicken breasts that look like they came off a Dolly Parton chicken.

Good morning, Pipples.

Bone, what happened to the question about Microsoft Word?

Yeah, BayleyBug...seems as if Protestants protest from so many different religious viewpoints they get pretty danged tiresome. I'm thinking of starting something like "The Church of Whatdifferencedoesitmake," with the motto:

"You live, you die....nobody on Earth knows why, so what difference does it make?"

BUT --- we shall absoLUTaMENTE demand our area in the meat market. We'll eat nothing but one-legged snipes and hotdogs and baloneys that were slaughtered while a Lower Slobbovian mime sings "Yes, We Have No Bananas!" --- in The Unknown Tongue!

YES, Lawd!

Wellum, I've probably insulted somebody with this, so I'll leave now.

Greetings Doc, Baylee, Mindy, PayPump, Mick, WRINC, Joelimo, Geezer, Wack, MadDogUSMC, Loree71, Full of Fun, Chasms, blkvette00, Psycho Sid, & Others:

Happy Sunday! We got in a 2.7 miles walk this morning in the 70 degree temperature with a little wind. It was nice to get out and get some exercise while enjoying the sights.

We had a nice dinner with dear friends from Atlanta at Bubba Gump's Shrimp Company in Madeira Beach last night. They moved down here for employment about a year ago.

Today, we have lunch scheduled with my immediate and extended family clan in Wesley Chapel.

Tentative plans are to drive back home to the Atlanta area tomorrow morning.

Thanks again for your prayers, thoughts, and well-wishes.

Have a great day all!

BayleeBug, I'll check out soydogs. I'll probably check out "turkeydogs," too, if I can find them, because I like turkey in any form, particularly "turkeyburgers," which is what I had for supper tonight.

Wow! Dunno what sort of "something" flew up my nosebulb, but all of a sudden I started sneezing like crazy, and now I'm plugged like concrete!

Gotta git me some Actifed and hit the sack.

Good night, all.

Good evening!

Doc, Seventh-Day Adventists are generally vegetarians, and they are heavily into fake meats made from textured vegtable proteins, I think they're called. So all of their cooking is of fake-tasting "meats". The only meat-like substances I prefer are soy dogs, since they really do taste like any other hot dog - the spices make all the difference. And at least I know what's in a soy dog!

This is better, Doc. You're back on page 1. In fact you are right up towards the top.

Went to Primm (Stateline) this morning thinking it might pep me up a tad. It didn't. Got my lottery tix for Tuesday night, played a slot machine and won enough for lunch....then back home where the dog kindly allowed me to rub her tummy

Finally back home.

My wife and Vini are at her Mother's packing, so I'll see them tomorrow. The garbage disposal died while I was gone, so the plumber put a new one in and left the putting back together of under the sink to me.

I gave a cooked pork loin to a buddy across the aisle at the show, and he filled one of my coolers with the kind of hot dogs that I like. Thank goodness we have a neighborhood party in a couple of weeks - I'll volunteer a lot of the hot dogs.

It was a good show, but I'm glad to be back home for a one day weekend. One of the leads I have is near the cabin ...

I is here, BoneDood.

As to Microsoft 2013 Word docx, I was warned that Office 2013 is "quirky," so when I upgraded from my old standard 2000, I got Office 2010 from my good buddy in Bulgaria (I think). Works like a charm, although I know so little about ANY of it, I just have to learn as I go along.

But ask away...if I can't help, maybe Baby Dotter can --- that's her forte.

Good morning, all. Finally got up at noon after another no-sleep night.

POOH!

Sid, we've been in the middle of a dredging project to clean up the upper Hudson for a few years now, but I have a new thing to worry about. This morning there were about 15 turkey vultures perched in the trees at the back of my yard. They only eat dead stuff, so I'm getting worried about my immediate future. Do they know something I don't?

geezer, Holy jumpin' Asian carp! You have PCB's and other similar aromatic hydrocarbons with halogens?

Furan infested European carp too!?

You probably have salt water crocodiles down on the Hudson lurking under those big bridges..

I wonder what they taste like?

Tell me more about the "old material" thing, Choco. I don't get it. CH has always just been a big'ol fun-loving gal, as far as I could see. Can't imagine her being nasty to anybody.

ANYway, this thread is possibly "down" because of my rant about "Halal." Strange to me, but it does seem that if anything "neg" comes up about The Religion of Peace, lots of folks get their underwear wadded up over it.

Oh, I see it now. She apparently just decided to be officious. Ignore the hell out of it. The mods are there to enforce the rules.

Doc, you're getting further and further down p. 2. Can't have this. Keep on p. 1 or Celtic Heart will write me more nasty notes about dredging up 'old' material. Can't have that either.

Did nothing, zilch, nada for two days now--it's wonderful just loafing.

FOF, I said I'm through with this, and after this one thing, I AM:

HEB Grocery here has assured me that "Halal" meats will be "clearly marked."

Methinks that means they're going to have a LOT of rotten meat in that section.

Thassit....thassall....FORK it!

this is just my opinion but I for one will not eat Halal meat but do they actually tell you its Halal nope it seems that a lot of animals are killed this way so as not to offend people well I for one am offended if I am eating an animal that is killed that way it almost makes me want to be a vegetarian.

I would also not eat Kosher meat now reading this

it seems the same as Halal to me

Shechita is performed with a surgically sharp instrument (a chalaf), which must be perfectly smooth without the minutest notch or irregularity. The shochet constantly examines the instrument to ensure this standard is maintained. The frontal structures at the neck including the trachea, oesophagus, the carotid arteries and jugular veins are severed in a rapid and uninterrupted action causing an instant drop in blood pressure in the brain. This results in the immediate and irreversible cessation of consciousness and sensibility to pain. Proponents of stunning seek to achieve the state of unconsciousness by additional intervention, but shechita humanely incorporates stunning as an integral part of the procedure, which renders the animal insensible to pain, dispatches and exsanguinates with a rapid action.

Exsanguination is the bleed-out of the carcass. This is especially important in Jewish law as Jews are forbidden to consume blood (Deuteronomy XII:23). Exsanguination is necessary in all methods of animal slaughter since blood deteriorates quickly and could putrefy the meat if it is retained in the animal. Shechita ensures maximum exsanguination.

There are five Halachic requirements that the shochet is obliged to ensure in the performance of shechita, (Shulchan Oruch, Yoreh De'ah: 23):

a) There should be no interruption of the incision (Shehiya);

b) There should be no pressing of the chalaf against the neck (Derasa), this would exclude use of a guillotine;

c) The chalaf should not be covered by the hide of cattle, wool of sheep or feathers of birds (Chalada), and therefore the chalaf has to be of adequate length;

d) The incision must be at the appropriate site to sever the major structures and vessels at the neck (Hagrama);

e) There must be no tearing of the vessels before or during the shechita process (Ikkur).

Good morning.

Geezer, the stuff about ethnic foods is quite off the point, and surely you realize that. Certainly we have Mexican, Chinese, German, and other ethnic foods --- none of which require religious ceremonies during their production. So far, as we have seen here, ONLY Judaism and Islam have required that ACTUAL RELIGIOUS CEREMONY must be a part of killing animals.

To me, that is totally out of line....but I'm finished with this now, because I think this world is going completely and utterly crazy, and I simply have to stop thinking about it because I don't have all that much time left, anyway, and dwelling on it is making me miserable......

....but I do hope the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Seventh-Day Adventists, the Unitarians, The Holy Church of the Poopie Bear, the Far-Flung Followers of Foobert, and several dozens of OTHER groups demand THEIR ceremonial rights.

Fair is fair, right?

....and I sure do love you all.

Sid, I've never eaten catfish, so I can't offer any opinion of Hudson River catfish. I can say this: We have PCBs in this region of the Hudson River, and there's no commercial fishing here.

As to the issue of meats and religion, I'm fairly certain it's a question of supply and demand. Around here there has been kosher stuff in stores as far back as I can remember. Why? We have a large Jewish community and the markets make money from sales to that community. If they didn't profit from such sales, the kosher stuff wouldn't be on the shelves, and Jews would create their own markets.

The same goes for any ethnic foods. I'm guessing there is a sizable portion of markets in your area, Doc, dedicated to Hispanic foods. Is that because of ceremonial demands by Mexicans and Central Americans? I doubt it.

Good morning all!

doc, I partly disagree with you. It seems to me that Jews did not make any grocery chain "cave" to any demand. I might be wrong but I believe it's all about money, again. And I believe it was a good business decision from smart people. As I understand it, Jews don't eat non-kosher foods, fine, so if my grocery store chain doesn't carry Kosher items, I loose a certain segment of society in my stores. Hence, money. I imagine the same can be said about Mexicans and their isles in my stores, no? And maybe the same for the Asians and their specified isles? It only makes good business 'practice' to me. You may be correct in your theory regarding Mooselums though. They definitely are a different breed of animal, for sure!

I'll refrain from any other comments regarding Mooselums, so please don't ask as I don't want to go thru coming up with another screen name and having to go through acquiring enough points to get rid of this ungodly ugly green POS and the next ugly purple POS! I prefer my black car I had when I was 'juniorfan'!

Maybe it's true, once you go black, you never go back! HA!

Have a great day everyone! Later

Okay, Bone, I know that...but, see, you Yankees and the rest of us live in two different worlds:

In MY world, if it AIN'T PORK, it AIN'T a hotdog..weenie...or frankfurter...

Just a fact of LIFE.

Aa far as Hebrew National, sure, they're delicious....but NOBODY's "links" are worth more than a buck EACH! Heck with THAT!

BUT I get your point and I get WR-INC's point: The Jews have also made grocery chains cave to their "religious ceremonial" meats.

....which is probably the MAIN reason Muslims have demanded THEIR ceremonial "rights."

Now I intend to go into seclusion long enough to determine exactly what ceremony must be involved in MY new religion. First I have to decide what to call it. Anybody got any suggestions?

All I know about "kosher" is those TERRIBLE "kosher dills," WR-INC, but I will ask the meat counter guy. I do know they don't sell kosher hotdogs or bacon.

Do they sell kosher meats up there? If so, what makes 'em "kosher"?

Oh, well, Sir Joseph, as they don't say: "Shiite happens....and Sunni!"

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

Which reminds me: Yesterday I emailed HEB --- our local grocery store chain --- asking if it's really true that they are now joining Costco in offering "HALAL" meats in their stores.

Today I got a very wordy and AROUND-the-point answer that --- to me as an OLD English teacher --- boiled down to "Yes."

SO...I then answered that answer with another question: "Can you tell me what OTHER religions besides Islam are given special treatment when it comes to "ceremony" involving the killing of animals? (Among other things, the butcher must LOUDLY cry "ALLAH AKBAR!" as the animal is killed.)

ANOTHER long answer from the Customer Relations lady --- this time by phone --- which, in my EDUCATED opinion boiled down to: "No."

SO...and somebody please correct me if I'm wrong: ONLY Islam has demanded and GOT official observance of their RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES by Costco AND HEB Grocery Company.

What's next?
