Greetings Doc, Baylee, Mindy, PayPump, Mick, WRINC, Joelimo, Geezer, Wack, MadDogUSMC, Loree71, Full of Fun, Chasms, blkvette00, Psycho Sid, & Others:

Happy Wednesday! 49 degrees this morning. 2.6 mile walk complete. It was a bit chilly so I dressed in layers and had my toboggan hat on.

Doc - re: "Clans" - being originally from NC, I heard all about them but never got up close and personal.

Ortho appointment went well yesterday; no new news to report there as things continue to progress in the right direction.I went to work following.

Yesterday's work day was a trying and busy day so I never got back here last night. Orchestra rehearsal was the redeeming factor last night for a while; when I got home we learned that our credit card had been compromised and used at a Target in Brooklyn, NY - not a place we have been for a number of years. While the company is taking care of the issue (we're not responsible for the charges and issuing a new card) it's always an inconvenience.

Off to continue the day; another day chock full of wall to wall meetings.

Have a great day all!

Saddest thing is I seem to have lost the only pic I had of Pop in his dress uniform, MadDog. Still got his straight razor and a button off his uniform coat and even a lighter from LONG before Zippo. Strange sort of gizmo, with a "striker" that has a wick an the end of it. I really hate losing that picture, though.

It's his JOB, BayleeBug. Let him do his thing.

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

I still have your gm address, BoneHead. You aren't going anywhere. If I get enough of this lard off, I'm gonna fly up there and go fishing with you...and maybe check out The Nagger.

LOL LOL LOL, etc.,etc.

Thankee, WR-INC.

Got a growly belly, y'all. Think I'll try an Alka-Seltzer and a bed.

Good night.

Good evening! Nothing much different around here; the rain continues to build up but we need to do all of the regular things anyway. At least the pup doesn't mind getting wet, but he also figures that we should not mind either. I think the water must make it harder for him to sniff things properly, so he has to spend even more time than usual sniffing EVERYTHING. Silly animal!

We'll Doc, since I have nothing "upstairs but more stairs" and I remember your email address, along with geezers, you should have no problem remembering my email address.

Don't bother sending me any email anyway -- I'm going to Chrysler CTC or Toyota TTC...

Or maybe BMW or KIA in Alabama.

All I need is an address Loree. Money for vets for Christmas....absolutely. I feel all nice and warm and fuzzy inside. Another reason to go get a chocolate chip cookie. I'll take the dog with me and we both may hog up. I'd prefer it be a Marine(not a Maroon, a Marine) function, but I guess those Army dudes did as good a job as others.LOL

'Morning.

Grmoore, I don't tell this story much anymore, but I actually "attended" a Gathering of the Klans" in my Alabama hometown once. Several of my ten-year-old buds and I heard a lot of "stuff" going on over in the big graveyard, so we sneaked in, scuttling from one marker to the next, until we could see the whole show. They had a big fire going, along with all the stuff you saw in "O, Brother," and it scared the SHEE-ite out of us, so we didn't stay long. Sure heard a lot of familiar voices that night, though....and that's a true, true story.

Wellum, it looks to be a good day. I woke up again, and the sun is shining, and ISIS hasn't yet taken over the world in the name of The Religion of Peace, so here we are.

Loree, we went to a Gathering of the Clams at a local seafood restaurant last month.

Haven't been to a Gathering of the Clans since forever! My maternal great-grandfather was a Duncan, which makes us part of the Robertson clan. Looking up clan tartans, I decided our Tartan is the ugliest one ever created. That must be why I focus on the Cherokee side of the Scots/Cherokee connection, and align myself more with the 50% Sicilian of my heritage! That, and the fact that Mediterranean cuisine is tastier than either of the other two types!

Howdy! I have a favor to ask of you, especially if you are a veteran or support the US Armed Forces and their families.

Most of you know that I am committed to helping out with a lot of military assiatance organizations, most notably the VFW and the American Legion. I have also become involved with another group called OATH (Outstanding Americans Thanking Heroes). OATH is basically a non-profit that was set up to function as the civilian support group for the 426th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne), an Army Reserve group that is based out of Upland, CA. In addition to providing whatever assistance is required for family support while a member of the unit is deployed, and for providing help transitioning back to civilian life, our group also hosts events that normally would be handled by a military Family Readiness Group (FRG). This includes pre-deployment dinners and post-deployment welcomes home, annual family days, and other occasional family activities.

This year, the unemployment rate among our Battalion's members is over 38%, which I gather is pretty high for a reserve unit. We have decided to host a Christmas party for the Battalion and their families on December 7. However, in order to do this properly, we are forced to solicit donations from the public. We ARE a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, so any donations are tax-deuctible in the US to the extent allowed by law. Any donation, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated. To make it easy for you to donate, we have set up a page on gofundme.com. The link to the page will be posted here. If you can find it in your heart and in your budget to make a donation, please go to and do what you can. I appreciate your time reading this and want to thank you in advance for any donation you feel comfortable making!

Please donate here:

Will all of you who have my email address please send me an email? My Windows Live Mail just really got messed up a few days ago, and I guess I made it worse trying to get it straightened out. I'm about ready to look for another email client. Anyway, I lost a bunch of addresses and ended up with a lot of OLD ones that are not even valid anymore.

Glad you liked the story, MadDog. Yep, the old man was a tough sonofagun --- WWI Marine and later a coal miner. His dad, whom I never met, was as Scots as they come, complete with the accent, the clothing, and a huge, crooked pipe. Sure wish I could have known him, but he passed away when I was two years old. I heard a LOT about him from Pop, though, down to his imitation of his father's accent.

Fact is, I've had the feeling for a lot of years that I really should write about him. Trouble is, the title "Big John" is already taken. lol

I hope all of you readers will check out BetterWorldBooks.com too. I've bought several old books from them, and last week I packed up two big boxes full of books I sent to them as donations. They do a lot of good around the world. Check 'em out.

Meanwhile, I HAVE to get to bed. Good night, all.

Choco, do you know about Project Gutenberg? Your chances of finding any classic that's out of copyright are pretty good. Just find it -- www.gutenberg.org -- You can read on line or download - or even try providing content or proofreading for them if you'd like to. And it's all free, always.

Good morning.

grmoore, as an old-time Southern boy, I had to look twice at that "gathering of the clans" remark...and I'm sure you know why.

By the way, dunno if I mentioned this or not, but my grandfather Holmes was a really SHORT, redheaded Scotsman who still spoke with a heavy Scots accent. He died when I was about two, so I never met him, but my dad thought he was King of the World, so I heard a LOT bout him, including Pop's rendition of his accent.

Also, during WWI, my Pop was a Marine stationed aboard the Battleship USS Florida, and he spent quite a lot of time in Scotland when his ship would dock at Scapa Flow; and even though the old man had only an early elementary school education, he learned to love the poetry of "Bobby" Burns --- probably because Burns' "stuff" was so popular in those pubs Pop frequented in Scapa Flow. Burns could, as those of you familiar with his work, could get REALLY raunchy, and my dad just LOVED it.

See where I get my attitudes from?

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

MANY's the time I heard this last verse of "To a Louse":

"O wad some Power the giftie gie us
To see oursels as ithers see us!
It wad frae mony a blunder free us,
An' foolish notion:
What airs in dress an' gait wad lea'e us,
An' ev'n devotion!"

Now how many times have YOU heard that first line and never knew from whence it came?

Now you know.

Y'all keep smiling and working and laughing...me, I gotta a little stuff to do.

Greetings Doc, Baylee, Mindy, PayPump, Mick, WRINC, Joelimo, Geezer, Wack, MadDogUSMC, Loree71, Full of Fun, Chasms, blkvette00, Psycho Sid, & Others:

Happy Monday! 47 degrees this morning - wow, same temps as Chicago! 2.1 mile walk complete.

My wife and I had a wonderful weekend at the Gathering of the Clans at the Stone Mountain Highland Games. My wife has been conducting family history research and has finally found the Scottish clan to which she aligns. We are now members of the Macduff clan. I used the term "align" as there is apparently no direct American clan affiliation for the Primrose family. There continues to be a Primrose Castle in Scotland so the Macduff clan will be our American affiliation because the Primroses are part of this clan. Fun times.

We also spent some time with old friends from my Army Forces Command days (can't believe I have been gone from there nearly 8 years!). We had a great time.

Last night we had dinner with our daughter in Atlanta to catchup. She's doing well.

re: picture - thanks! It was a fun trip.

Off to breakfast and start the day.

Have a great day all!

Loree , quello che hai avuto per la prima colazione?

As to The Booper, the dood's scary-looking enough withOUT the hoodie and the surgical mask. I bet that cop thought he'd found a new "Jack the Ripper."

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

I haven't watched a movie in several years now...probably won't ever watch another one. As to "actors," they should just ply their second-rate trade, rake in their millions, and keep their stupid mouths shut. I used to love Bill Cosby 'til he decided I'm a "hater" or a "racist" or both if I don't worship Obama the way he does. (I DO, however, very much respect his views regarding "his" people --- that they are tearing THEMSELVES down via their actions. There, he is absolutely correct.)

But NO "actor" is going to tell me that "alternative lifestyles" are just fine and that if I don't agree, then I'm a "hater." Hell with that...and hell with THEM! I have just as much right to my opinion as anyone in the world has.

Oh, well....think I'll go read a book, too. I got a copy of "Horton Hears a Who" 'round here somewhere.

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

Psycho, he's fine, it's just a chest cold. But with his respiratory problems, we always have to take care that it does not become pneumonia. This time, however, he seems to be over the worst of it and appears to be getting better.

Sorry, I planned on posting this earlier but then I saw WR's post and had to stick my two cents in. I tend to get sidetracked easily when I am out of Coca-Cola!

This morning's planned activity got shelved rather abruptly. Don has been fighting a chest cold for a week now, and with all his other issues, we monitor ANY congestive condition closely. He felt much better this morning and was exhibiting early signs of "cabin fever". We decided to take the dogs for a nice. long, and invigorating walk. He took Chuy (the chi/pug) and I took Zsa Zsa (the mini-poo).

We get less than 3/4 of a mile from home, and Don starts breathing heavily. We decide that it's time to go home. I offered to take Chuy with me and Zsa Zsa, but Don points out that it is still dark outside and maybe I should wait until later.

By this time, Zsa Zsa has found a place where she wants to make a deposit, so I tell Don to head for home and I will catch up with him. Zsa Zsa takes her sweet time, and it's about three minutes later that I am able to scoop up her deposit and put it in a plastic bag.

After we round the corner, what do we see? A patrol car has stopped and an officer is talking to Don. Seems that a 6'8" man walking a chihuahua in the dark while wearing a hoodie and a hospital mask is npot a common occurence in this town and merits investigation.

WR, I decided not to see Noah, and not just because of the bad reviews. I was told by a few people that it was Biblically inaccurate, but that is not the reason I chose not to watch, either. Russell Crowe has been added to my "boycott" list of celebrities whose movies I will not patronize, nor will I spend one penny of my money on any product or service they endorse or are affiliated with.

Russell Crowe made that list NOT because of his political views, but because I don't think that as a non-citizen, he has the right to criticize or condone any American political issue. His blind allegiance to the Present Resident, and telling the world that Americans should be thankful we have such a man leading our country earned him a top five spot on the list.

Out of Turgenev and on to a book about either facebook or gas buddies by Dostoevsky called "The Idiot." Read it once a long time ago but didn't catch all the nuances. It's in cheap paperback now if one can call $9.99 cheap, but it's a long one and will put me to sleep for several nights.

Bonga flooey, y'all!

(That's Lower Slobbovian for "Good morning.")

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

Oh, well..here we go again, as they say in Washington:

"Another day another seventeen million dollars a minute down a rathole!"

Now you folks be SURE to pay your taxes, huh?

BayleeBug, with our Miss Peppy, it all depends on the "takeoff point." She just flat CANNOT jump onto "her" recliner in the LR from the bare floor, but when I put one of those little non-slip rugs in front of it, she goes up like a bird. Fact is, if somebody's moved her rug, she'll sit there in front of her chair and stare at me until I go over and put the rug back into place.

Grmoore, you're a lot like Joelimo --- y'all just need more stuff to DO!

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

Talk about Type A...that won't get it --- we gonna promote both of you to Type A+.

Howzzat?

LOL LOL LOL, etc., etc.

Thanks, MickD...I'm sure you're right and that's exactly what I intend to do. And I'm actually looking forward to my shot of propofol. Can't even imagine a drug that just turns your lights off immediately.

Oh, well, I'm not working in the yard today, WR-INC, but I do have to go burn some "stuff."

LOL LOL LOL, and so forth.

Good morning!

WR, I bet you are right about Vini's situation. The SO grew up with a very intelligent and stubborn dog, who was probably a corgi mix. As he got older we were told he could no longer jump onto one of the beds in their house, but could still reach the other one. So one day when we were alone there I measured the height of the two beds. Big surprise -- yes, they were both the same height.

Greetings Doc, Baylee, Mindy, PayPump, Mick, WRINC, Joelimo, Geezer, Wack, MadDogUSMC, Loree71, Full of Fun, Chasms, blkvette00, Psycho Sid, & Others:

Happy Saturday! 58 degrees this morning.

Up a bit earlier this morning (for a Saturday) because we're going out to Stone Mountain to see some of the Highland Games Festivities. They brought back the Pipe Bands and the Army National Guard Band also will perform. I participated as the Drum Major for the Army Ground Forces Band (back when I was on active duty) for several years in the late 90's.

Last night, the Georgia State volleyball team won another match 3 games to 1 over Texas State. The team is showing steady improvement and have now won more matches than last year with a few more matches left in the season. Next home match will be next Friday night.

The Georgia State football team travels to and plays the University of South Alabama. I don't expect it to be a fun time for the Panthers. They aren't playing well due in part to lots of injuries and another suspension (academic violation) of at least one key player.

MadDog - thanks.

Doc - you're having way too much fun for my tastes. ;) Will pray everything turns out well.

Off to start the day.

Have a great day all!

Good morning everyone,

Today will be a lawn day, and out for dinner tonight. Netflix sent us "Noah," so for 2-1/2 hours we'll watch that.

I've got to train Vini to use the collapsible steps I bought. I think his reluctance to jump into the car or on the bed is all in his head, but I do want to make things more comfortable in his advanced years.

Got to reading a novel by Turgenev today called "Torrents of Spring" just because Hemingway had a novel called the same. Wanted to see if they were similar. They aren't.

Bone, I mentioned that quack that did whatever Michael Jackson wanted him to do, which killed the stupid little guy AND what Joan Rivers' quack doctor did that killed the heck out of HER.

I don't have any quack doctors. I'm a gooooood picker!

Meanwhile, I can attest to the fact that a "low carb" diet WILL make a ROCK shed some pounds if "stucken to" properly. I'm not really enjoying my first day of it, but I've "stucken to it" so far. BETCHA' I'm down at least a pound in the AM!

Okay, Blo, now you're gotten rid of your FLOOPER and I'm in the process of tearing down my "tool shed," so start thinking about us moving back into that mansion in Caledonia, huh? You can just leave Number (whatever) there in that lil' house and BOOGIE!

Lemme know when the place in Caledonia is ready --- and be SURE to have the bannister slicked and shined. (Remember?)

LOL LOL LOL, etc.

MAN, oh, MAN, ain't life fun?

LOL LOL LOL, etc., etc.

What in the hell are you guys talking about? Quack doctors?

Doc, don't hand me that balonga that you're on your last leg, ok?

Get some Xanax, everything will be ok with a very low dosage of .25 mg.

I got the floodlights on so I'm going to rake some leaves on the east side of the house.

Later folks!

Met with Doc Cavasos, the "up and down" doctor. He says I'll just come in after fasting for a day or so and drinking a couple of jugs of Suprep to flush my inner terlit; then I'll get onto a table and an anesthesiologist will give me a shot of the same stuff Michael Jackson's doctor gave him and the same stuff that Joan Rivers got from her quack before she died, and then I'll turn off like a light bulb, then wake up fifteen or twenty minutes later as if nothing happened.

Sure hope it works that way, Doc. Just DON'T give me as much as Mike's doctor gave him and don't make whatever mistakes Joan Rivers' quack made with her.

This stuff is actually supposed to be as safe as apirin when given properly, so I'm not at all nervous about it.

After this...and another visit with my dietician, I will then have the final procedure, known as a DEXA scan, I think. Nothing to that --- just lie flat for a while on a metal table. Got something to do with bone density. Who knows?

Later...gotta feed my pups.
