After having so many people admire my pictures on my profile someone suggested a "Pets" topic. Gas Buddy suggested I start it here. Here goes!

Rocky is a lot less itchy today. He went from semi-constant scratching to very little.

Ritalin peed in the game room. My BFF pulled her into the game room and stuck her nose in it. Ritalin has had that treatment before, she wanted to go anywhere else. Afterwards, Ritalin ran to the sofa and jumped up in my lap. She stayed there for quite a while.

Rocky had his routine vet visit Saturday morning. He got his flea and heartworm preventative as well as a combination antihistamine and steroid to hold down his itching.

Ritalin is tentatively scheduled for the 9th. She needs her shots and because she's a valuable dog (purebred German Shepherd) I've pointed out to AJ that she should be microchipped. After all, Rocky's microchipped and he's just a collie mix mutt.

I'm having double trouble on the 16th. Rocky goes in for a dental cleaning and they rescheduled Tiger's neutering for the same day. So, Rocky will be on a leash and Tiger will be in the cat carrier.

howdy penske, GasMiser:

penske: i would be happy to have all your snow-hehe..we have snow in the forecast for late tomorrow, then again on Thursday-if it snows either day, that will make five consecutive months we've had snow, and that doesn't happen very often..too bad the amount of snow is pathetic..glad to hear you are feeling better..a pulmonary embolism is enough to get you down..ain't it nice to have the boys hanging with you..

GM: wow-three feet of snow-gimme, gimme also..Cleo woulda been crossing her legs, waiting for her path to be cleared ; )

have a great Sunday 2s and 4s..

10k - you need to drive up here. You can take some or all of our snow. We've gad it for 4 months and it never goes away - it just gets added to. More tomorrow.

Feeling better every week. Still exhausted by pulmonary embolism. Just happy to be alive!

Quincy is up here snoring, and Checkers still never leaves my side. He will not be happy when I
actually go back to work.

Hello all..

10k: looks like we are making up for all of our snow up here. I can't image if we still had our Cleo and had to shovel the back yard for her business. there must be 3 feet of snow in the back yard.

2004VHO: I bet that's a beautiful Shepard! Checkout my white board to see our Cleo, she was a Shepard Husky mix.

Hope all has a great day....

Last night, Ritalin followed me down the hall. When I got to my BFF's bedroom, she kept thumping her tail against the door. The BFF woke up to see what the commotion was.

Tiger was fine at the veterinarian's office. They checked his testicles and commented that one of them wasn't yet descended but it should be shortly. Tiger got three vaccinations, one in each hip and one in the right shoulder. Every time they poked him, he tried to get back in the relative safety of the cat carrier. He's going in to be neutered and to get his second round of vaccinations in a few weeks.

disappointed howdy y'all..

is it against the law to shoot a weatherdude when he says up to 10" of snow, and all we have to this point is about 1" of snow, some sleet, and a bunch of freezing rain ; (

DJ says "arf, woof"..

have a great Thursday 2s and 4s..

heyyyyyy y'all:

our basically snowless winter ended today..not much to brag about, but we got 2", which made some nice snow cream, and according to the NWS, after a high of 47° tomorrow the temps will crash, and overnight Wednesday til around noon on Thursday, we will have snowfall round 2, with an accumulation total of 3-6"..and on Sunday, we could get hit a third time..excuse me for not believing any of those forecasts-til they happen anyway-hehe..

DJ wasn't as thrilled this time, cause she couldn't slide on the driveway like she could when it sleeted last week..DJ does say "arf, woof" too all..

have a great Wendesday 2s and 4s ; )

we had 2 days in the mid 50s..today winter returned, and once again, snow was in the forecast but never arrived..bummer, you say ??-but nooooooo, there is snow in Tuesday's forecast also, so the weatherdude has two chances to get it wrong..and another chance on Thursday too..

DJ is fine and dandy-currently she is upstairs bombed out-lol..

have a great Tuesday 2s & 4s..

I'm going to be busy ferrying pets to the veterinarian this week.

Tiger goes back for an illness recheck Wednesday afternoon. He sneezes occasionally but so do I.

Rocky goes in for preventive care Saturday morning. He was supposed to have his vaccines just when things got hot and heavy moving into the house. I completely forgot about it.

Callie and Tommy also need to go in.

the last post i see from mags was on February 3-hmmmm..

Current status of my menagerie:

Callie the calico cat is sleeping in a box in the spare bedroom that's carpeted. (I've got two spare bedrooms, one is carpeted and the other just has a concrete slab. My handyman AJ wants to put laminate in the spare bedroom because it's easier to clean.)

Rita Lynn the German Shepherd puppy is sleeping in her dog bed.

Rocky the miniature collie is sleeping where he always sleeps, under my BFF's bed.

Tiger the white and tan kitten is sleeping in what is usually my seat on the recliner.

Tommy the black and white cat is sleeping on the floor in the spare bedroom that's carpeted.

record low of 6° or lower overnight, and a record low high of 21° tomorrow-with wind..possible snow late Saturday also-sighhh..i think i'm ready for 60°..

GM: we got more snow tonight also, but it was nowhere near 3"..it was a shame too, cause the flakes were those big ol' fat wet snowflakes..hope you enjoy yours ; )

penske: sorry to hear about your setback and especially those four days in the hospital..reading your list of what is wrong begs to ask the question, what is right ??..we had more snow tonight, but just enough to cover the spots where the sleet had melted..DJ actually loved playing in, and eating the sleet-her outdoor water buckets are frozen solid, so she's only getting water by eating sleet, or drinking it when she's in the house..

Hi everyone. Sorry, I had a bit of a setback and was in the hospital for the last 4 days. I am going to copy from another post what exactly was wrong. I went in to the ER with pain on my non-operated side near my outer left chest wall. They told me this was directly related to having my hip replacement surgery.

They sent me home with oxygen. My percentage dropped to 83% while walking off it, which was low enough to have it covered by insurance. I went through all of my radiology reports and the list is staggering. DVT in rt. external iliac, common femoral, femoral, popliteal, posterior tibial, & perineal vein. Extensive clot in right main pulmonary artery w/ extensions into the right upper lobar artery, right descending pulmonary artery, left descending pulmonary artery. Trace bilateral pleural effusions, greater in left. Patchy atelectasis in both lungs. Multiple segmental and sub segmental emboli are in right and left upper and lower lobes, as well as probable linguist involvement. All that and my moderate sized saddle embolus of the pulmonary artery without acute corpulmonde.

Sorry some of you no doubt had some ice opposed to the snow I knowDJ and 10k would have preferred. We had a few inches. But the cold temperatures have been the worst. No body better be leaving their puppies out there for any length of time. Around here people get fined if pets are found outside and temp is below 20 degrees.

Sneakers: that's funny-the animals get filtered water, but if you drink water something is wrong-lol..DJ loves ice cubes-she just chomps 'em up into little pieces then leaves 'em to melt..i guess animals have strong jaws and teeth if they chomp ice cubes..

we had freezing rain last night, then it changed to sleet, with a little bit of snow-this morning we had a mess..the highways had not been salted or scraped..our mayor was not a happy camper..

have a great Wednesday 2s and 4s..

I noted my BFF was watering the menagerie with filtered water from the fridge. The dogs will also sit there and lick ice cubes, Tiger will play with them but not lick them much. I commented about her giving the dogs filtered water. She asked if there was anything wrong with giving the pets filtered water. I didn't say "At least you aren't giving them BOTTLED WATER!" (which she has done).

BFF comments about me that something must be wrong if I'm drinking water.

Most of the time. Sometimes the kitties sleep with each other, sometimes they fight a little.

Rita Lynn wants to play with the kitties but the kitties respond negatively. Tiger definitely gets aggressive when he's perturbed.

>poor Rocky-sleeps under the bed, while everybody else has choice spots ; )

Rocky likes being under the bed. He's the only animal that can stay there when people are sleeping.

>it's amazing all the meds that are interchangeable with humans and pets..

There are a lot of veterinary-only antibiotics, particularly for livestock, so that antibiotic resistance can't spread from animals to humans. I was curious about the antibiotic that Tiger got so I looked it up. It's one that's only for cats and dogs.

My cat, Ginger, is sleeping next to my husband who has a cold right now. She had been sneezing quite a bit a few days ago. I should logon here more often as you all post interesting things about your pets and/or their health. I think Ginger may be getting arthritis since it is getting harder for her to swiftly jump up on the bed. Either that or I need to give her more exercise by playing with her!

Tiger got three shots at the vet's office. He got a depot antibiotic (so much the better as I don't have to poke pills or drops down his unwilling throat) that works for 14 days, he got some meloxicam (used in human medicine as Mobic, I've had it before for arthritis pain) to reduce his fever until the antibiotic takes hold, and some fluid replacement as he also was having runny poops.

Right now, he's playing in his human daddy's home office. He got into a shoebox of Coke bottle caps for "My Coke Rewards" and started carrying them around in his mouth. Then he played with them like they were hockey pucks. He also started jumping in and out of an open filing cabinet.

He's sneezing a lot less and he's not blowing yellow snot out of his nose now.

well, we missed out on the snow again..it snowed west of us, in the mountains, and east of us in the northeastern part of NC and the northern OBX..there was extensive damage in some areas in the northern half of the OBX from a nor'easter, combined with the front from the northwest..

what we lacked in snowfall, we got in wind and falling temps..once more, the weatherdude promises what could be a major snowfall late Monday through Wednesday morning-same song, second verse..

DJ says "woof, arf" to all canines and felines ; )

have a great Friday 2s and 4s..

Tiger is going to go on another ride in the Escape this morning. He's got a cold and the BFF demands that he go to the vet. Except this time he will be in a cat carrier because he squirms too much to be in a vet's office.

Good afternoon all! Another bust of a storm, but it was supposed to be an ice event so we're glad that didn't happen either.

My cats like to ride in the car too, but they need to be in their carrier, which has a grated top, so they can see out all around. Quincy likes when the sun roof is open especially. He lays on his back in the carrier and looks up. They are too big for my lap, and I always worry about them getting under the pedals if they were loose in the car. Be glad you had an uneventful trip Sneakers, the airbag would most likely kill Tiger. When the carrier is on the front seat in my car, it is not enough weight to activate the airbag to come on so they would never deploy. That makes me feel a whole lot happier.
