After having so many people admire my pictures on my profile someone suggested a "Pets" topic. Gas Buddy suggested I start it here. Here goes!

howdy Sneakers:

good thing you explained it well to that boy..

poor Ritalin-i've been lucky in that i don't think i've had a dog scared of the weather..i had one dog, Sandy, who calmly slept through Hurricane Fran in 1996, while Fran ripped up everything that didn't move..

i guess your door will be the one Rocky will bark and paw on if the BFF left ; )

have a great Sunday 2s and 4s..

Tiger is curled up in the cat carrier. Yesterday, I had a little boy visiting who was going to close the cat carrier. We explained to him that we only close it when he needs to go to the veterinarian.

We had severe thunderstorms after dark. Even Ritalin was scared, and she doesn't usually get scared during storms. I've noted that Rocky is getting better, he used to not go outside during a thunderstorm and now he does. AJ credited that to the influence of Ritalin (the dog, not the drug). Rocky, on the other hand, was barking and pawing at the BFF's bedroom door. Wonder what Rocky would do if the BFF left and Rocky stayed... bark and paw at my bedroom door?

What's going on with the pets on a dark and rainy day in the Houston area:

I don't think there's much of anything that comes out of a cat that Ritalin won't eat. The BFF is always catching her eating cat poop out of the litter box. And this morning, Tommy puked. I was going to clean it up but Ritalin got there first!

Ritalin was outside until a few minutes ago (as of when I wrote this). I called her and she ran across the back yard to come in the house. She was quite wet. The BFF heard all the commotion and she grabbed a towel to dry her off.

I haven't commented about Rocky since his teeth cleaning. He came home with a big red bandage on one of his front legs. The vet staff said Rocky reacted negatively for them when they tried to take it off. Rocky didn't do anything when I took it off. Then, he licked the leg he couldn't lick before. Today, Rocky was shaking and he was last seen going in the direction of the BFF's room.

Both cats are having medication put in their eyes. They're both getting calmer about having stuff put in their eyes. I commented to the BFF that "they're both getting calmer" and she asked if they needed to go to the vet. I asked why they would need to go to the vet and she said they were getting COLMER. I said, "No, they're getting CALMER!" (pronouncing the word very clearly)

I haven't seen Tiger since I took the trash out (got the trash out before the rain started and before the trash haulers came by) and he was going down the long hallway toward the BFF's room.

I haven't seen Tommy since I took the trash out. I just hope he's not still outside or if he is he hid in a dry place! There's nothing worse than a wet Tommy giving you a head-butt!

The forecasted storms for the past few days have come out delayed. And you have to have a heavy storm to get lightning in Texas (as compared to Kansas and Missouri). IIRC, I took an umbrella just in case but I didn't need it.

howdy all:

as the Yankees baseball broadcaster said last night around the 17th inning: "when we started this game it was today, but today is now yesterday, and tomorrow's game with Boston is now today's game, and when we started this game, the Yankees first baseman was 34 years old-he's now 35 years old"-sounds like Yogi at his best..btw, for those interested, they played 19 innings, with 10 innings being "free baseball"-Boston won 6-5..

DJ and a "visiting" friend went swimming in the cement pond Saturday..

Disadvantage of a cat with a unknown history... you don't know if they have balls or not. Turns out Tommy had his previously removed. The BFF told me he was marking which is usually something unfixed cats do.

He didn't have to go home with an Elizabethan collar (or, as my BFF says, "satellite dish") on.

We pilled and put in drops on Tommy this morning. Pilling Tommy is a battle, but we don't have to do it until my birthday comes up. He gets eye drops twice a day for ten days.

>poor Rocky: a trip to get his teeth cleaned-i've told my dentist many times

I've never had a root canal, all my teeth so far that have had serious trouble had it caught in time. I've heard "your mileage may vary" when it comes to a root canal.

They just called, Rocky went through the procedure just fine. But they want to keep him until 3:30 PM so the sedation fully wears off. Probably about the time the thunderstorms will be hitting.

Tommy came home with a bright orange bandage midway up on one of his paws. They told me I could take it off after thirty minutes. A lot more than thirty minutes passed before I saw Tommy again. He just came by and I took the bandage off. I think he was happy to be able to lick himself. The bandage material looked like the stuff they wrap arms with at Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center after you donate.

Just got a phone call from the veterinarian. Tomorrow, Rocky gets to go through the drill of nothing to eat after midnight and going to the office before 7:30 AM.

He's getting his teeth cleaned.

Next week, I'm not expecting any pets will have to go to the vet.

Tommy has no balls. After he takes the medication the veterinarian prescribed, he'll hopefully have no eye infection and no tapeworms. As it stands now, he has an eye infection and tapeworms. The BFF will be overjoyed to discover she gets to put stuff in the eyes of both cats.

I've been keeping my eyes on Rocky. Unless he's scratching when he's behind the couch, he's not scratching at all.

Rocky is much better today. I have watched him for several minutes and he hasn't scratched once.

One of my BFF's friends came over with two of her little boys. They wanted to pet the kitties. I had to tell them Tommy was not here so they both petted Tiger.

I'm going to tell them they're bringing back the wrong pet if they hand me a dog. Tommy is a cat.

I fell asleep in the chair and woke up a bit after 1:00 AM. I then searched the house for Tommy. I found Tommy sleeping in a laundry basket. He then went to the spare bedroom and I went to my bedroom.

The BFF just got a phone call. They discovered Tommy was already neutered. We weren't sure but the former owner told us that he'd been neutered but I don't trust what they said very much. I figured that a veterinarian would be able to recognize a neutered cat and they did. Rocky got a tattoo that indicates he's neutered.

Tommy went through all that not eating. When I opened the spare bedroom door, he made a dash for the food dish. I anticipated he'd do that and I closed the hall door. I tried to put him in the cat carrier and he made a dash for the other spare bedroom. The BFF picked him up and I held the cat carrier steady.

Two out of four days in a row completed taking pets to the veterinarian.

Today, Rocky went for severe itching. He got a shot, medicated shampoo, and two types of pills.

Tomorrow, Tommy goes in bright and early to get neutered. No food for Tommy after midnight. He's going in the spare bedroom that has a locking door. (The other spare bedroom has a door that doesn't want to stay locked.)

howdy Sneakers..

good luck to Tiger and Rocky..the BFF has a great job-putting ointment in the eyes of a pet-ugh..

i've only got two accounts at the same bank, checking and savings..neither account is healthy anymore-sighhhh..

aluminum cans are 65 cents/lb right now, and the company paying that amount only keeps records of lbs and cash flow, so if i can get all the family's cans rounded up, 100 lbs would be $65-it ain't much, but it's unreported ; )

have a great Wednesday 2s and 4s..

Tiger spent his day at the vet while I went out and closed two checking accounts, reported a slug of gas prices, fixed the Master Station List for two stations that had changed brands, and had lunch. I also got a phone call from my Investment Counselor at the company that manages my IRA. He asked if it was a convenient time. I told him I was in a parking lot, and I'd pull over, roll down the windows, and turn off the engine.

They gave him a shot of Convenia (not a good drug if the pet turns out to be allergic to it because it hangs around a long time; Tiger had had it before) and some eye ointment three times a day. The BFF put the first dose of eye ointment in Tiger's eyes a little bit ago.

Rocky goes tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 for severe itching.

Tiger gets dropped off at the vet tomorrow morning, and they will look at him. They will call when he's ready.

I think he has a cat allergy. He will purr, but his purrs are wheezy. And his eyes are watery. He's not like he was the last time he went in for this kind of problem. That time, he had yellow snot draining from his nose.

While Tiger's at the vet, I'm going to go around and close a couple of checking accounts. The banks that were convenient from my old apartment aren't that good for my new-to-me house. The new checking account is at just about the closest bank to me (there's one on the right side of the road, but the one that I have is on the left side of the road).

I looked at my options and considered there was basically two. I was working on a computer that nobody on the planet used. (We had some test rigs but you couldn't fly them in space. We also had one flight computer [for twenty people] to debug sticky problems. Worked Space Station for 15 years and never used it.) One was retraining (which I considered to be a crapshoot... I'd likely be done retraining by the time it was to retire for good. I had an offer to retrain as a Petroleum Engineer but I figured I'd need some additional training to be ready for the Petroleum Engineering curriculum because I had only one college-level chemistry course), and the other was to retire. I also had some medical problems that impacted my work but my doctors told me I wasn't bad enough to be declared disabled. The company I worked for is still in business, but shrunken considerably in Houston. I get a pension (the company I worked for made retirement from layoff different than retirement if you up and quit first). I also lived on less money than I made and saved the difference. I make more after-tax than i did when I was working. but I'm in a lower tax bracket.

>due to the lack of an economy, our company got tired of losing money, and closed on the first
>Friday in February, 2010..we were 50 weeks from being open for 50 years.

Sounds like your situation was worse than mine. I had basically worked myself out of a job. having implemented all the changes they wanted but one. But the one was a biggie.

>i guess i was to selective in the early going of unemployment-

I got my severance check and I hopped in the car and went on vacation at Mom's house. One of my older brothers was unemployed at the same time, and he was mystified why I didn't take unemployment. He told me about getting unemployment in Missouri, and I said "That's not the case in Texas." In Texas, you get a new fulltime job when you get unemployment compensation - it's called "finding another fulltime job."

>i was picky, and passed over a few jobs, cause i was looking another
>permanent job

I never bothered to look. Human Resources sent me a 12-page document stating what to expect during layoff. (I had to load encrypted E-mail to get a link to an unprotected 12-page document. Go figure.) They called me up a couple of weeks later to ask if I understood the 12-page document. I said, "Well, your 12-page document incorporates a 51-page document by reference. I read and understand the 51-page document. The 51-page document incorporates a 101-page document by reference. I read and understand the 101-page document.
I read and understand all three documents."

>..i thought i was too old to keep changing jobs til i got the one i wanted

I'm probably qualified for two jobs: rocket scientist (although if they called me up, I'd probably have to admit "I've forgotten all about it in five and a half years" but I spend most of my waking hours on the computer!) and Wal-Mart greeter. I'd never do what one young girl did to me. She was telling me that I went in the other entrance. I replied, "The other entrance has a McDonald's. I own McDonalds [just a bit of stock]. And I would certainly would have looked to see how much business they had at the Golden Arches!"

I would have said "Kroger bag-boy" or "H-E-B bag-boy" but they look at all the gray hair and the bag-boys (and bag-girls) offer to take my groceries out for me.

>now there are no jobs around here that pay decent wages for mid
>60 year old peeps ;(

There are probably some in the Energy Corridor but I don't think I could be a CEO. :-)

>DJ says "Run, Ritalin, run"-lol..

Ritalin is a purebred German Shepherd. The vet gave AJ the "spay your pet" speech and he told them he wants her to have puppies. At least there's no chance of having Ritalin make puppies with Rocky.

>i think the police aren't happy arresting an animal..maybe they think
>it's the animal controllers job ??-or maybe they think he is where he

Tommy's former owner can't keep Tommy in the first place, that's the reason he ended up here. He did make the comment I could have him if AJ wasn't around.

>wow dude-good thing you are semi-retired..

I'm completely retired and I have considered myself such since 18 September 2009. I did retire from a layoff when Space Station development wound down. The real estate agent that sold me my house was my former manager when I worked, so I'm not the only one. He ended out getting busted down to lead, a halfway point between manager and grunt. I didn't ask how small the group was now, he only does real estate part time. I think the earliest appointment I had during workdays was at 3:00 PM.

>better gas up on Monday, so you can drive it out every day next week..

Filled up Friday. The vet's only about three miles and six gas stations away, so I'll have an excuse to get out and get gas prices. Didn't have an excuse today.

I was wondering if Tiger needed the vet but up to a few minutes ago he was on my lap emitting croupy purrs.

>do you get frequent visitor discounts at the vet ??..lol

I have them on the Banfield Optimum Wellness Plan. Two checkups a year, free office visits, and 15% off the meds.

>..$2.19 is the cheapest around here..

Got my gas for $2.14 yesterday. Price hasn't gone up or down since yesterday. It's a "GB_Direct" station so I would assume the price is correct (never seen it wrong there).

Next week, I'm going to be a pet taxi. Back and forth to the vet's office. And my Escape is low on gas. Looked at GasBuddy, cheapest acceptable gas in the area is $2.14 a gallon at Valero.

Tiger goes in Tuesday morning for a cold. Hopefully, he'll be better before then and he won't need the visit.

Rocky goes in Wednesday afternoon because he's back to scratching all the time. They gave him some meds last time and he didn't scratch at all.

Tommy (if he is still here) goes in for a neuter Thursday morning.

Rocky goes in again Friday, this time for a teeth cleaning.

AJ just told me that Ritalin is seven months old today. She thinks she's a puppy and should be able to climb up in my chair just like Tiger does I have this problem calling Ritalin "he" because she's the only female pet around here.

The BFF gave Ritalin and Rocky a bath. After Ritalin got out of the tub, she ran around and around the house like a crazy animal.

Rocky is scratching a lot. The BFF asked me to make an veterinarian appointment for him. They don't even open for another hour.

Tiger is watching the 11:00 AM ABC 13 news. If he isn't, he's sitting there with his head pointed at the TV.

Tommy got away from the police, guess they didn't have any catcuffs. He's back here. The police must have had something useful to do yesterday and so far today as they haven't been back.

Tiger and Tommy were acting like they were starved this morning. They kept reading the first word on the Meow Mix bag over and over again. Tiger was making a nuisance of himself, I had a cup of food in my hand and he started eating out of the cup before I could put it in the cat dish!

Seems Tommy's former owner is having give-away regret. He sent the police (just what we need around here) to come get Tommy at 11:10 at night. AJ didn't help matters any by saying cats were Chinese delicacies. I think they were concerned that Tommy was going to get eaten.

On the other hand, I grew up in a home where my late father used to comment that one of the dogs was a "perfect size for the roasting pan." That was enough to get us kids upset.

howdy all..

Sneakers: woohoo Tiger is freeeee ; )

wonder if Tommy knew what he was doing-lol..

i've been told by DJ's vet techs that cat food is good for dogs, but not necessarily the other way around, because of the extra meat protein and taurine that dog food does not have..

don't ya just love the "call from the authorities"..

DJ says howdy to all-it's cold again-mid 30s, and she loves it..

have a great Saturday 2s & 4s..

Tiger had to have some stitches when he got neutered a week ago Monday. The stitches come out this afternoon.

Tommy was supposed to be neutered this morning but the BFF noted him meowing and she took him out of the spare bedroom. Tommy, of course, ran to the cat food dish and pigged out, ruining the "no food after midnight" surgical prep. Tommy had to be rescheduled to the 9th of April. I will make sure that the BFF knows this time not to take Tommy out of the spare bedroom. I fed Tommy soem cheese this morning, and he didn't seem to like it. Tiger and the dogs love cheese.

Ritalin is fine even after eating cat food. I read an article on cats and dogs eating each others' food. Came to the conclusion that you just as well feed both of them cat food as cat food has extra meat protein and supplementation with the amino acid taurine that dog food doesn't.

Rocky goes in for a dental cleaning on the 10th of April. I need to tell the BFF that he's going so everything is lined up this time.

Wally (Wally is not a pet, he is the automatic pool cleaner) just fired a burst of water into the air. It's almost warm enough to swim in the pool.

On the "call the authorities" front, I got a visit from a Texas Adult Protective Services caseworker Tuesday afternoon. She soon figured out that I was having my health care needs taken care of, I was getting fed, there was a roof over my head, I wasn't disabled, and I had retirement income. My BFF says her parents were responsible for making a claim I was getting neglected.

howdy GM..

boy did it monsoon on us this morning-if anything was gonna leak, it woulda leaked today..it reached 79° here today-way to warm for March..

wow-75° in Detroit this time of year ??..i understand about not wanting to be in the rafters in the heat-i don't care for that either..

we are supposed to have a daylight high of 52° tomorrow-i can deal with that temp better than 79..

have a great weekend..

have a great Friday 2s and 4s ; )

Light rain again today.

75 degrees, I'm hoping that holds off for a while, I have to get up into the rafters/attic to check on a leak. It's not my favorite project gets hot up there fast. Oh well, have to do it soon.

Have a great day 2's and 4's

it was warmer today than predicted, and it's supposed to be 75° tomorrow, with rain, BUT .... here's where the fun kicks in-Friday night's low will be 25°, and the weatherdude says by sunrise Saturday, it could be snowing-wow..

DJ loved it outside today-i had to beg her to come indoors tonight..

have a great Thursday 2s and 4s ; )
