After having so many people admire my pictures on my profile someone suggested a "Pets" topic. Gas Buddy suggested I start it here. Here goes!

mags: that is beautiful-except for a few minor changes, that story was Duke and I..the morning Duke crossed the Rainbow Bridge, the vet called me before his appointment to see how he was doing..after i told him there was no change, he told me to bring Duke on in..when i brought Duke in, apparently everyone who worked there had been given the news..we carried Duke to a corner room, where the vet checked him over, and told me what needed to be done..i think we all cried also..i held Duke for his last few breaths, and it was over..they left the room, and told me to take all the time i needed..i held him and just rubbed his fur and scratched his ears, cause he loved having his ears scratched..after about 10-15 minutes, i went up front..they asked if i was gonna take him home then, or they could have him cremated, placed in a nice box, rapped in velvet..i agreed to that, and i have to say i've never regretted it..the next day, i brought him home for good..they did an exceptional job..Duke has a memorial site outside, beside the dog i had before him, but his remains are indoors on a memorial table, with some of his things..DJ is trying ; )

have a great Saturday 2s and 4s..

For us it was a Rottweiler pup that we saved, the breeder was going to take her out back and hit her in the head with a hammer. She was born the runt of the litter, and her tail was cut to short, no one wanted to buy her and the woman said you can have her too ( we had bought two min pins from her) so we took her home. Every one moved home to help with feeding and keeping her warm. She grew and with love and training turned out to be a big lovable bear of a dog. She would protect all of the grand children so she thought, but she appointed herself Mom's protector and best buddy! You could not walk into the house and give Mom a kiss with out letting her know first that she was loved. She would stand in between Mom and me and force me to talk to her first and then I could kiss and give Mom a hug. The joke was Mom couldn't even go to the bathroom with out the dog! They walked 5 miles a day, and bear never left her side, Two weeks of training school once a year and they were both given certificates of passing the class. When we found out that she had cancer every one in the family moved back home, we took her to specialists that held out little hope. The day came when she could barely walk and would not eat her favorite foods. So we knew, our family vet set up the appointment and once again the family came together one more time to love and spend the last evening with bear 95 pounds of love and the personality of a young child. At the vets office even the vet sat down on the floor, we all cried. So much unconditional love came from this little dog who was given a chance to live by us, and yet it felt like we were losing some one in our family. Tears are still spent when she is thought of, and yet she gave so much more to us and our little min pins. Never will there be another like her, never will there be so much love from a family pet. She was one in a million, and yet I feel a loss with out her, but I do not feel she would like us never to have or give another a chance at a loving home. I just could not have another dog in our home or to save another one and give it a chance at life. I know in my heart of hearts that there will never be another Bear, and yet her we go again, a little dog with a sad story, and the heart of a big dog. She is not Bear but she has a certain way about her, the way she tilts her little head when we talk to her, the spinning in circles when she see's us in the morning and once again we cannot go to the bathroom alone. She cries if we leave her in the house for a while, and then there it is again that unconditional LOVE! She is not Bear she is Haley, and she needed us as much as we needed her! The little dog with the heart of a big one! We are so lucky to have had Bear and that was our blessing! We have all been so lucky with our pets, or that special buddy in our lives. A friend gave this poem to me called the Rainbow Bridge! If you want you can look it up it did help ease our pain, but the memories will forever make us smile even in our old age! That is the sign of a good fellow Pet owner and thank God for people like us!

GM718: everything both mags and i said came straight from the heart..Cleo will tell you when it's time..being that she was "The Dog", she's not gonna lead you astray..just trust her like she trusted you..you may never have another "The Dog", but the next one will do his or her darnedest to be..good luck, rest easy, and just allow it to happen in it's own time-Cleo will know, and in your heart, you will know..

rescue dogs seem to love a little more-they know what being a throw-away feels like..

good luck, and God bless a true animal lover ; )

have a great Friday 2s & 4s..

Thank you 10k, Sorry for your loss.
It's great that you rescued DJ.
Like you said in your wonderful comments of your last 4 leggers, Cleo was "The Dog" because I retired in December 2008 and she was by my side for everything. Someday she will give me a nudge and stop walking our halls, we will get another one day when it's right. Hopefully it will be a rescue like yours.

Thanks mags for your kind words. I know in my heart we will get another just like you did. When the time is right, there's nothing like that unconditional love you get from your pet!!!!

Hello to Penske so good to hear from you and that your doing as well as can be expected, keep it up you'll do just fine! About that snow, after waking up we had an 1 1/2 to plow back up! But can't complain its not like the east knock on wood! Howdy to 10k, if its snow you want I could send some your way LOL. Waiting for spring planning our garden its getting rough I tell ya cabin fever! Sneakers I certainly wish I could sit still and relax, seems like I'm always running. Finally finished ripping up all the tile down stairs, after removing all our snow! All I have left to do is sand the floor bring in the new tile and set it in place. Back is hurting today I think I pushed a little too hard snicker. Stay well all my 2's and 4's Penske hang in there!:)

Hi to my favorite twos and fours! Feeling pretty good today. Happy that we weren't far enough east to get any of that blizzard. Not an inch! I am happy to report.pain is getting better. I did walk with just the cane yesterday. That was exciting. Challenging, but worth it. Left me sore for hours after. Kitties are loving having me home. All three of us are on the chair now, basking in the sun.

I'm kind of slumped down in the recliner and Tiger is sleeping on my chest. I'll be displacing him shortly as I haven't had supper yet other than a couple of pieces of beef jerky (which sure got Tiger's attention!).

penske: hope the surgery was a success-that way the pain will be worth it, cause i assume it will go away..rest and let the kitties do their thing to keep you warm..sure wish you could send that dreaded white stuff this way..we could have some of it overnight, backdooring us off the coast ; )

Hi everyone! Just a brief note from my phone to let you know I go through my surgery fine. Home Wednesday. I have some pain, a ton of swelling but am doing ok. Pretty tired and quite weak. Dr said I had a ton of arthritis. Kitties are doing their art by keeping me warm. A whole lot of that dreaded white stuff coming my way. Good time to be house ridden!

Hi to all our 2's and 4's hope that this day was a good one for you all. Ha 10k sounds like DJ was having a good day with the rain. Haley is getting antsy too. We shovel a nice big round circle for going out and doing her thing, but she wants to go further now stepped into the snow and sunk right down to her belly. LOL she had a little trouble getting out so I went out to help her today 2x. I think she is pretty close to being done with the white stuff too! Oh well they said we would be getting a little more but it has not appeared yet, probably will show up over night and shock both of us lol. That's WI.

Great fido fix for lots of folks in the Bay Area this weekend. Golden Gate KC having their Cow Palace show this weekend and with good weather the place will be mobbed, go early if you can.
We have attended for most of the past 40 years and while most dog shows cater to the exhibitor, Cow Palace is for the spectator to be able to see all the breeds, all day long. When done showing in the ring, instead of leaving, normal at dog shows, at CP you return to your bench area and answer questions until the show closes about 5pm.

Howdy fellow animal lovers and friends, Penske I hope that this finds you well and on the road to recovery. Hi 10k thank you for your inspiring word it was that way for us and little Haley. She had this sweet little face but their was something in her little eyes and I could not stop looking at her web site and of course the story behind this lil pup just made sense to us. After 2 days and e-mails and a call from our vet with a great reference from her we found ourselves on the road to Michigan. Up and out by 6:00 am thru Chicago loop and an upward swing we found our excitement rising, GPS really helped us out LOL. We arrived around 10:50 and there she was, we truly feel God wanted her with us, and us with her. We have been buddies since and even though we never had a rescue dog I highly recommend them to whom ever is on the look out for a new buddy. There is one out there just for you, Have a great evening to all of my 2 and 4 legged friends we are Blessed!

mags: tyty for your comments..all true dog lovers know-we just know..when i saw DJ at the shelter for the first time, she had a white streak down her chest and belly..i went in looking for a solid colored black lab, not a lab mix, but she wanted to shake hands, and that was all it took..she came home with me the next day, Oct. 3 ; )

penske: we are waiting to see ya on that new hip ; )

have a great Thursday 2s and 4s..

GasMiser: so sorry to hear of your loss..i understand how you feel right now about another dog..i had a female dog pass on June 15, 1998 (yup, i remember the dates when all my four leggers pass), and i said i was through-my kids thought otherwise, and on Father's Day 1999, they handed me an eight week old black lab..i named him Duke, and he was with me for over 14 years before i lost him on July 1, 2013..my house was too quiet, so i decided to get another dog, but this one was gonna be a rescue doggie..i didn't intend to get one as soon as i did, but Duke was prowling in here at night-i knew he was telling me it was time, so on October 3, 2013, i rescued a black lab mix, about seven months old..after i brought her home, Duke stopped walking around ; ) i named her DJ (Duke Junior), and we've been together now for over 15 months..i never regretted it..

there's not a thing i can add to mag's post..she wrote that straight from the heart of a dog lover, and i know Haley is in the best home possible for her ; )

one day perhaps, you will feel a little nudge, and it will be from your beloved doggie, telling you that just maybe it's time for more doggie antics in your home..God bless you-it's not an easy road..i can't tell you each day will get better, nor can i tell you another dog will fill that hole in your heart..i fully believe that a dog lover has that one special dog, "THE DOG", that no other dog can replace..Duke was my "The Dog", but as we say down south, "bless her little heart, DJ is trying to fill that hole"..

have a great night 2s and 4s..

I'am sorry to hear about your loss GasMizer, ours are always in our heart we waited for 6 month's and just happened to see a little dogs story on the internet. Her pregnant mother was left in a house that was abandoned with 7 other dogs. We think that this was where Hannah gave birth to a little boy they named Harley and a little girl named Haley. Something in her face told me she needed us as much as we needed her, and we were right. Two weeks later we were off to Michigan to get our little pup. Yes we loved and missed our beloved Min Pin of 17 1/2 years, and we never rescued so this was very new and a little scary too! But we discovered a little 3.5 pd. pup that deserved a life and she was just what we needed. We wake up smiling every day and she is always excited to greet us in the morning, she has filled the hole that was in our hearts and brought laughter back into our lives! I hope this helps, ours is gone but never forgotten, and our new little buddy has brought life back to our home. I would do it again in a heart beat, their are so many that need us as badly as we need them. God Bless you for loving your pet so wonderfully!

Sneakers: ain't nuttin' like a man and his dog(s) is there ??..lol on Callie's indoor delivery-i'm sure as the winter presses onward, she will reward you with a mouse or two..

mags: prayers for penske tonight, as she recovers from her hip surgery, and i hope it was a successful surgery..don't know how long it will be before she will fill us in on the gruesome details, but i'm sure Quincy and Checkers would tell us, if they could type-lol..my blood pressure was slightly higher than my doc liked, but i had always run in the 130s/mid 60s, but it was over 140 for two straight years, so he put me on BP meds that i begrudging take-grrrrr..gimme dat snow y'all are about to git-do y'all realize we have not had even 1" total this winter-bah humbug..last year all of our measurable snowfall came in late January and mid February-i was looking forward to a major snowstorm event at least 3 weeks ago-nada ;( sounds like y'all have a great vet also..how's mom doing ??..
DJ says howdy to Haley..

have a great Tuesday 2s and 4s..

When I usually call Rocky over, he walks over and lets me pet him. Not this afternoon! This afternoon, he came running and jumped up in my lap! I wanted him to spend a while longer in my lap but he soon decided to jump down.

Rita tries to get up in my lap like she's a kitty but she's too big.

The temperature today was perfect to have the doors and windows open. Callie the calico cat was carrying things in. She came in with what looked like a dead mouse. I went over to look at it and I was happy to discover it was a stuffed catnip mouse.

Hi Penske, you are in our prayers I know you will do fine! Day care wow you must have a fancy vet there kiddo! We have a country vet but she has a heart of gold and even talks to all the animals when they come in for their check up. She says no such thing as a fussy pet they just are on unfamiliar grounds LOL Hailey always gets a baby food jar with chicken, beef, or liver and actually loves going in for her visits! So my friend 10k even diabetes in your family has to be watched closely, we have heart problems on my mothers side and cancer so we make it in once a year for our check ups mine are every 6 weeks because of high blood pressure but I am on meds and kind of a diet LOL to ward it off! Expecting snow tonite here we go again! Stay warm and take care my friends give DJ a big b-murf from haley, penske tell the kitty's to b-have they usually know when we are not feeling to well!

Hi all! Lucky Quincy. We thought for a while we would board him for a few days this week. But he's going to stay put. My surgery is tomorrow. Chex is no problem, but Q can be a bit demanding. He could still go to day care for a few hours each day. I cannot believe they have that at my vets' office, but they do!

Hi DJ excellent news on the eye deal, mom is doing much better except for no salt diet. Food just does not taste the same sigh I miss my salt but I joined her so she would feel better! Howdy sneaker sounds like you have a little problem, is the TV able to wall mount? It helped me so our cat could not sit on it in the bedroom! Our white stuff is melting and making me think about the garden, I must be getting cabin fever, but at least its not freezing out! Take care guys and stay warm! LOL

Callie (my BFF's half-brother's calico cat), Tiger, and Tommy are all lying on my bed. When I go to bed, I have to relocate all the kitties to the hall.

Hello Penske and 10k, thank you for your kind words, you are our angels told mom and she said to let you all know that she is grateful for your prayers. She also said that you are so wonderful for you to send such loveley thoughts her way. Well Penske you are in our prayers, and I will pray for a quick recovery, it will be hard work but if you work at it it should go well, I had back surgery last year and a knee replacement and I worked hard at it, not ready for a rocking chair yet. We watched the Packer game, I had to leave the room 2x I was getting a little angry at them but it was a good game! Mom will be coming home this afternoon and she has been missed by her little girl so I will take her to the hospital to visit! Have a good one my friends and God bless you and your families!

That's so nice that Hakey could visit too. Someone suggested to me that I register Checkers as a therapy cat. He is very lovey lovey to all, but he does nibble occasionally. I'm kinda busy right now, but I thought it sounded interesting.

One more work week, then it's hip time.

Haley, I know you're missing your nana. So sad, byput she's doing better and hopefully will be home soon.

10k, DJ, Magpie, and Sneakers be well my friends, there's a lot of bad flu going around here now. Stay warm, and I will see you later!

Hello 10K sorry but I have been very busy between the snow and Mom things were not at their best. Mom had to go into the Hospital Tues, heart beat was way to fasy and in one week she gained 7 pds. of fluid build up in her body sigh I have been beside my self many thanks for all your thoughts and prayer. Mom back to as normal as things will permit, low salt diet and a fe meds, the hard part was watching Haley running from room to room looking for her Nana so sad and the crying really got to me. But I knew when she mentioned the Male Nurse she had with the big brown eyes things would be okay, even had permission to take Haley into the Hospital to visit what a joy! LOL geez what you guys do to us girls LOL Thank you again my friend I hope that all of my 2's and 4's are staying warm and taking care of your selves Love to all!

DJ says "arf, woof, bark" to all the critters out there ; )

had my first eyeball checkup tonight since the cataract surgery..vision is 20/20-woohoo, BUT .. that dang pressure was 34..normal is 10-21..now i have more eyedrops, but at least the newest drops hopefully will bring down the pressure..

weatherwise, we are falling off the cliff now-the next few days will see highs of 50, 38, 26, and 35, with a rain/snow mix on the last day-sighhhh..

have a great Tuesday 2s and 4s..
