I decided to start slowly rebuilding the nest egg I liquidated to pay some bills. I put $100 in each of ten stocks, companies that I like (or don't like for two): Becton Dickinson (BDX), CenturyLink (CTL), Darden Restaurants (DRI), Kroger (KR), Quest Diagnostics (DGX), Phillips 66 (PSX), Royal Dutch Shell Class B (RDS B), Target (TGT), Wal-Mart (WMT), and Zions Bancorporation (ZION). I used ShareBuilder, where you can do dollar-based investing. How did your stocks perform today?

You must not have any foreign stocks, they went up and down on President's Day as it's a US-only holiday.

Sneakers, you have virtually no participation here. My main move recently is to add physical silver to the nest egg. I have about 40 years of retirement savings but no physical bars or coins. As soon as silver went below $14.50 / oz. I made a move. It will never exceed 15 percent of my total real estate and pension / annuity accounts.

Scared to look lol

But, the Russell 1000 (^RUI) & 2000 (^RUT) roaring back on 12/18/14.

Got out too early on INTC :( ; looks like today it'll hit 40% return for the year if the DOW holds. Should be interesting.

DCIX, a shipping stock, "sinking" me literally, right now, but ^RUI & ^RUT keeping my head above H2O for the year,,,

Will check out your other posts ASAP as they seem interesting, thanks for them, good trading & happy holidays..

Last night, all I managed to do after I got back from the house is eat supper. Then, I fell asleep in the recliner. I was surprised that I did that without the usual sleeping pill. So, you're getting the change for both Wednesday and Thursday.

Portfolio performance since inception: Down 1.82% (from up 0.30%)

All-time performance:
Best: The Boeing Company (BA), up 15.40%
Worst: Royal Dutch Shell plc Class B (RDS B), down 10.42%

Daily performance:
Best: Meredith Corporation (MDP), up 1.63%
Worst: Olin Corporation (OLN), down 4.64%

Movers: Seven up, ten down

I did have a $583 free cash balance in my account. Yesterday, I transferred in another $17 for a nice round $600. And I decided my next stock will be Westpac Banking (WBK), a large Australian bank. Increases my geographic distribution, gives me another financial company, and it pays a 6.19% annual dividend as two payments every six months. And their stock has been down recently, hopefully a good time to get in while it's cheap.

My stop-loss on Sasol triggered early this morning. They're currently down 5.03% on the day.

I've also got Phillips 66 and Royal Dutch Shell. They're both down over 2% today.

Between my losses on Sasol and my gains on Hawaiian Electric Industries, I ended up with $583 for my next $600 position.

Busy, busy, busy... I'm moving into a pre-owned house!

Went through and optimized my stock purchases made on December 2nd. I ended out buying $600 of the following:
AstraZeneca plc (AZN)
Hawaiian Electric Industries (HE)
Olin Corporation (OLN)
Meredith Corporation (MDP)
Unilever plc (UL)

No sooner than I buy Hawaiian Electric Industries than they announce that they are going to spin off ASB Hawaii (their banking operations) and then the electric utility assets are being to be acquired by NextEra Energy. I decided I didn't want the pieces (not a nice round $600 investment any more) and HE jumped 16% this morning. So, I sold my HE and I'm going to reinvest $600 in Southern Company (SO). Decided that Southern was just as about as much of a blue chip as you can get in the electric utility industry.

I decided what to buy. I have the following scheduled for December 2nd:

ABBV (ABBVIE INC) - pharma
AMAT (APPLIED MATERIALS INC) - semiconductor manufacturing equipment
HE (HAWAIIAN ELEC INDS INC) - vertically integrated electric utility
KR (KROGER CO) - grocer (very good luck with it in the past)
MMM (3M CO) - conglomerate

My stockbroker (ShareBuilder) is doing one of their promotions again: a $100 bonus for $10,000 in new deposits. I waited to turn 59 1/2 and I bought my retirement home. I had some extra money left over and I decided to put it in the stock market. I typically buy nice, conservative dividend-paying stocks and plow the dividends back into new holdings. I put in $10,200 which is enough to buy seventeen more stocks than the Boeing I already had and have a $600 cost basis for each. (I like the dollar-based investing instead of buying a natural number of shares.)

My first dozen purchases will be on the 18th. I'm buying $600 of each of the following:

Becton Dickinson & Company (BDX)
CenterPoint Energy (CNP)
Capital One Financial (COF)
Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS)
Ford Motor Company (F)
Nike (NKE)
Phillips 66 (PSX)
Royal Dutch Shell plc Class B (RDS B)
Sasol Limited (SSL)
AT&T (T)
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM)
Verizon Communications (VZ)

I'll buy $600 worth of another five stocks in December. Haven't decided what to buy yet. I have three energy manufacturing companies and three utilities, so I will probably stay away from them. But I could buy Hawaiian Electric Industries (HE) for the excellent dividend because I don't have a vertically integrated electric utility.

CenterPoint Energy does the wires and poles for 5000 square miles around Houston along with natural gas distribution in several states. All rate-regulated businesses with a determined rate of return.

Decided to acquire a bit more Boeing stock, figuring $600 was a nice even cost basis that offers itself to easier incremental purchase:

All I have left is 5.6122 shares of Boeing - $600.00 cost basis, $721.79 current value.

Liquidated nine of my ten positions yesterday to raise cash. Just kept The Boeing Company. Us retiree-stockholders enjoy getting our glossy annual reports each year. I turn 59 1/2 in October and then I can make an IRA withdrawal without the 10% penalty tax for early withdrawal.

Stocks that got liquidated ($483.00 cost basis on each):
Becton Dickinson (BDX) - $585.00
Quest Diagnostics (DGX) - $495.47
Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS) - $613.28
Ford Motor Company (F) - $537.75
Nike Class B (NKE) - $598.04
Phillips 66 (PSX) - $697.51
Royal Dutch Shell plc Class B (RDS B) - $594.88
Target Corporation (TGT) - $477.68
Verizon Communications (VZ) - $503.32

All I have left is 4.6789 shares of Boeing - $483.00 cost basis, $587.58 current value.
