I got my 1099-R on January 16th but I knew IRS wasn't accepting returns until January 30th. I decided to take a chance and try to file anyway...maybe I would be one of the first ones they process this year. I used the free version of Turbo Tax online, as I always do. It warned me of the January 30th date but allowed me to complete my return and even transmit to IRS. I didn't expect to hear anything until the 30th but on the 24th, I got an email that my return had been accepted and was being processed! I waited a couple of days and checked the status on it using the IRS.gov "Where's My Refund" link. It said my return would be deposited in my checking account on February 6th. Turns out, it was deposited at 9:30 this morning...2 days early!

Yesterday, I went to "Where's My Refund?" It said that my refund would be deposited tomorrow. I went to my bank's online banking system to check if I would be lucky like NewGirl51 and get it earlier that they said, but I didn't. I'm ready to get it as I'm going to put some of it in my savings accounts and use the rest to pay down some of my outstanding debt.

Filed on February 6th. Going to "Where's My Refund?" every workday evening, I'm still at the "Return Received" state. I wish they would hurry up and approve it and get it out to me, I can always use more cash on hand!

If anyone has already filed, whether you did it yourself or you paid to have it done, you can always go to Where's My Refund on the irs.gov website to check the status of your refund. All you have to know is your SSN, filing status (Single, Married-Filing Joint Return, Married-Filing Separate Return, Head of Household, or Qualifying Widow(er)), and amount of your refund. You don't have to wait for your preparer to give you that information - you will see the 3 stages of your refund process and what stage yours is at: Return Received, Return Approved, Return Sent (it will give you a projected date of direct deposit but you *might* get it sooner than that date)

I have used TurboTax since 1998 and never had a problem. You just stack up all your 1099's (retirees get all their income on some type of Form 1099) and key them in when asked.

>Gladly pay to have it done corectly

I just hope they're done correctly.

Not yet. It's a priority task for later today for me.

I had three 1099-Rs, two 1099-INTs, and a brokerage account combined 1099.
