It is as good reason for a party as any. Lets all get drunk, have a lot of fun, and for a moment forget about tomorrow. Then, pay the price tomorrow.

At least the Mormons and the Seventh-Day Adventists are still around to see their predicted dates come and go. The Mayans are not.

The Bible says that no one knows the day or the hour, so when someone tries to claim that they know, that's the 1st sign that they are wrong.

Secondly, trying to predict the end of the world from the Mayan calendar is akin to assuming the world will end in 2013 because you can't yet buy a 2014 calendar.
