wishing life would ease up on Pard and CH. They deserve a break TODAY.

I'm also glad I could bring Pard a chuckle. I was hoping to do that!

unable to sleep.

My sweet little girl will be in court in a few hours. She said it would be great if I could be with her. She's afraid of me coming fhere in the brakeless van, she is concerned for my safety. I'm crying. Just not so long ago she hated me with an ugly passion. Said the ugliest things in emails. I hadn't seen her in seven years, but we saw each other at the funeral. She's messaged me almost every day since.

Oh, crumb, the power just went out.

And I really need my oxygen. Poo.

I have to get up soon and I can't sleep. Boy, it sure is windy. I was recording a bunch of silent films tonight and now it's all messed up.

I'm rambling, I'm sorry.

laughing at dickc's post, how did you know what I was up to??!!! But whaddya mean 'at her age'?? I've have you know I'm only 19 Celsius!!

Just got off the phone with CH and we had a great time. Wish there was something I could to do help HER, but I can't really. But prayer can always help, so that's what I'll do.

dickc, I like winter, too!

And Roadieboy, dickc is right, take'er easy there...........

Targetsmom, thanks, I gotta be more careful!

thinking Pard should know better than to try kicking field goals at her age! Hope that toe heals quickly. DO call that sister of yours if you need her even if she might have to drive VERY carefully to get there

CH - Hope that other hand catches up on healing soon, glad you "found" me again.

TM - Glad you are one who finds the up side to the short day season. I like winter!

Outtacash - Thanks, will call her tomorrow to see when I can next get out there again. I did ski today and seemed to do OK.

Roadieboy - All work and no play makes Roadieboy a dull boy. Remember to stop and smell the roses.

happy. Chatted for a long time with my estranged daughter last night. She might want me to be with her in court on Tuesday. I'll walk there if I have to. I'll do anything to see my baby again.

Pardo, any doc will tell you to keep a shoe on that foot. Poo. Bundle up with a foo-foo mucket on the chankers-chankers bug with a cuppa tea and a few vikes. A hot toddy is good too. Or all. Do you need help? I can drive the brakeless van if I use the emergency brakes. Let me know. Call the 248 number.

Many thanks to all our wonderful buds here, both the regulars and the visitors. I've neved known a place quite like gb before, for quality of amazing people. When my mittens are better, I'll tell an amazing gb story from '07.

Could not get to church today, but our Lord hears our heartfelt prayers wherever we are.

I'm glad I never edit. I hate people who edit.

tired.

Freezing rain on top of the snow. What a thrill.

Thought it was a bit odd that folks are talking here to dickc and that I was clueless. Then I found that he was on my ignore list. My apologies! It's easy to do, the "post message" and "ignore" are really close, especially when on a mobile device.

So, dickc, hope you are doing better!

We're not keeping the van. Too much work. 2008 Chevy Express 3500.

My right hand is doing ok, but the left hand is being problematic. The finger snapped back into a closed position. Not good.

sorry to hear that the van needs that much work. I am willing to bet that you would have to pour more into it too soon afterward too. Car shopping is never fun. Hope you can find something you can live with for something you can afford. Hope you are close to getting the mittens off too!

I am back from Pittsfield, (got back Wednesday late day). Still waiting on one or two things from my sister, but the treatment helped. Will most likely go back for a couple more treatments (and just to visit). Got some good info from her including that unless there is radiological evidence of arthritis, you may only have an irritated joint. Allowing that joint to stay irritated can (and most likely will) wear the cartilage and then you do get arthritis. Proper treatment before the cartilage wears out can prevent it. Too many doctors believe the wearing out is inevitable when it is not. Sister needs to study my MRI's more closely to see if there is evidence or not. Waiting to hear back. Also going to start PT again. Have a specific prescription for it from her. Am hoping to get a recommendation for a local PT also. Odds of that from 150 miles away are low, but she will try.

at work for round two.

CH, 333,000 miles is a full life for a van, in my opinion, not worth spending $4000 on.

But I am sure you know that.

Good luck car hunting.

Good night everyone.

So we are going to try and turn in the van to a dealer and get some kind of a newer car or something. We need to be able to get around. I don't even have enough flour to make bread. Not that I can with my mittens all in bandages yet. :*(

worn out.

So tired of looking for new vehicles. Wish I could just get something to go to Florida so's I can see ma. Been planning this trip for SO long and now it's just such a disappointment.

I know it sounds like a lot for brakes, but the master cylinder was shot and some other junk. The van (2008 Chevy Express) was used for a lot of hauling before hubby became disabled. It has 333,000 miles on it, so I reckon we got our moneys worth. The trans went flooey as well.

at work and feeling great (great for me).

Wow $4000 for brakes sounds like somewhere between double the real cost and four times the real cost.

I just had my brakes done on my Ford F150 and the fronts were $700 because a caliper was cracked and the back brakes were $500.

They must be refinishing the rotors and replacing everything.
If you plan on keeping the van for years to come, doing the rotors might pay off because the pads will wear slower, but they should last two or three years even if they are bad.

This diagnosis is done without seeing the van, my apologies to the mechanic but if possible get a second opinion.

My truck has been on a tear this year, I guess it knew it was paid for.
Transmission seal, $1000.
Brakes, $500 (did the fronts in 2013)
Manifold leak, $800
and today it is in for a leak in the power steering system. I hope it is a hose. (It made a mess in my parking spot at work)

But I love my truck and it has a few years left, (2006, made in Dearborn)

Couldn't resist changing my avatar to the dog taking a selfie.

Dick, I got a new pill, it treats nerve pain, I take it along with my regular pain killers and it has made a noticeable difference in just a few days. I will post the name when I get home, I am terrible with names.

So CH, if you can get a second opinion, some places will replace everything if they think they can get away with it.

think I'm going to cry.

Got a call from the car place. $4,000 to start on the major brake job. No telling what the trans could cost.

No visit to ma's, no trips anywhere. Can't even get to church or feed the hungry and homeless folks this weekend.

Awful, just awful... :(

hating hearing about CH's vehicle problems. They can show up when you least want them. I do hope a minor miracle takes place and it does come in at a low cost.

I am feeling a bit sore in the quads today, but that is a somewhat normal feeling after early season skiing. I skied almost 10,000 vertical feet yesterday in early season conditions and the SI joint seemed to do OK with the cortisone. Will see how long that lasts!

feeling helpless.

Hands are still so swollen. Nasty wounds. :( I do thank everyone here for their thoughts and prayers. You're a good bunch.

We are supposed to leave for Florida to see ma for thanksgiving, but the stupid van is in the stupid shop with stupid problems with the stupid brakes and the stupid trans. No matter what it is going to stupid cost, we don't have the stupid money to pay the stupid bill. Unless the stupid cost will be around three hundred stupid dollars, then we're out of stupid luck.

This will also affect going downtown to feed the homeless on Saturday.

Melted some of the 8" of snow we got, of course after hubby did the snow blowing this morning, lol.

Still thinking about, and praying for Pard :-)

Hope CH is starting to heal.

Good for you, Dick! Maybe the injections are taking effect??

Temp is 34°, wind chill 25° but that's OK - I'm indoors!

glad to hear from Pard today. What a nice upbeat post from you! You are a dear GB member, and I hope the new normal is rewarding for you.

I am feeling almost normal today. Only the slightest bit of discomfort in the left side. Perhaps I can do the needed small amount of yard work today. We are looking at 1-2 inches of snow tomorrow so today would be a good time to get out there!

happy that the funeral is over. It was a beautiful funeral, if such can be said. I do want to thank everyone for their prayers and kind thoughts. I was amazed at the outpouring of love and kindness from the GB community, and it had quite an effect on me. As I have said before, it's all good. Even though Rog passed away on my birthday, it was a great gift, he is at peace and done with the pain and suffering, and I am so happy for that. What better gift, than knowing he has gone to his reward and is out of pain. My life will be returning to a new definition of normal, and I will say how much I value my GB friends, thank you again for everything.

feeling better today but still a tad sore. Hoping that by bedtime I feel OK. Cortisone can hurt for a few days. You can also not use it too often. That is why if it only give a short period of relief again they will now consider other things. Insurance is the driver. Got to go with the cheap option first.
