Good morning keywest!
The sky was a solid overcast in menacing shades of gray. Not a ray of sun was seen. With a 20% chance of rain, the weather seemed good enough for a training hike on the loop road. Figured why drive somewhere and possibly get rain.
Took my filled Nalgene 1 litre water bottle, wore long pants, a sleeveless t-shirt and my hiking boots. No backpack was taken. Took it very slow down the mtn.
Noticed my neighbor's hay field is close to cutting height so much earlier this year. Also saw some violet/purple New England asters in the hay field. May ask my neighbor if 3 or 4 plants can be dug up for my perennial garden.
The two brooks at the beginning of the steady elevation gain were very loud with the rain we've had the month of June. They looked lovely with cascading water pouring over thick green moss covered rocks & boulders.
At the only house on this section of the road, the young tenants have displayed a 20" basket of purple petunias resting on one boulder near the gravel road.
Not a sound at the small pond. The giant hayfields saw some cattle come into view. Counted 24 from a former count of 36. The owner looks to have taken the larger ones out, possible they are aged and are now milkers.
The rain arrived just before the 4 story farmhouse and its comparable barn. Opened the front porch door that is close to the road and stepped inside, out of the rain. It really came down.
Looked in the windows. There is a half bale of hay in the corner of a large room and hay is scattered across ¼ of it. Apparently the attorney keeps his 3 dogs in there for hours and overnight, when they visit.
Thirty minutes later the rain stopped and the hike was continued. Two cars drove by, one a stranger, the other a female neighbor near the road's height of land. We waved to each other.
My hip bothered me throughout, not in pain, it was discomfort on each step. The last mile went well until the custom log home was reached. There to my home, my hip pestered me. No people other than the two cars were seen.
It sprinkled the last ¼ mile. This loop hike is a cheerful 4¼ miles with a rise in elevation of 650 appreciable feet. Checked the garden plants for slugs. None were found.
Opened the door to the incredible fragrance of garlic. Early in the morning Tuscan sauce was made in the crockpot, along with carrots, and St Louis style pork ribs. Had a most delightful lunch waiting for me.
The temp is 46° with the high to be 75°. There is a 60% chance of rain.
Have a pleasant day!

Good Morning key,
Your Sunday movie for today is a fun video showing twin baby moose playing in the sprinkler while their mother looks on. Be sure to view full screen.
The music I recognized as "When You Say Nothing At All," sung by Alison Krauss.
From the movie page, "Animals have fun and a soul, too."
Enjoy!

Good morning key!
What is new with you?
Drove to visit my friend the meat cutter who told me about his 18 day vacation with his g/f, his flight to Denmark and his incredible cruise to Nor, Swe, Fin, and Rus for 11 days. Let him tell me all about the exotic food they dined on including reindeer.
Bought boneless Southern pork ribs for 1.99 a lb. Asked if he had an inventory specials and he did. He could sell me bone in pork ribs plus assorted pork chops both for $2.19 a lb. Spent $30 on these bargains.
Stopped at the P.O., then the Mom & Pop nursery. Mentioned to the Mr about talking to the Mrs about the normal Zone 5 and my crocosmia that is now a Zone 3 perennial grown by me for more than 20 years. Without discussion he insisted my property must be in a Zone 5 microclimate. It sure is in Zone 3. Left quickly to quell my growing anger of his many untrue words.
Returned home and added 3 of each the pork cuts into the slow cooker coated w/evoo. Made my own marsala sauce with water, cornstarch, mashed cooked carrots, minced crimini mushrooms, onions, garlic, sage, and marsala wine.
Went outdoors to plant a few more flowers, do garden maintenance and finish mowing the remaining section of the lawn. 3 hours later a taste of the contents of the crock pot was added to heated broccoli, carrots, green beans and red potatoes. The Marsala sauce Ribs and chops came out superb
After lunch a few brake adjustments were made, the water bottle placed in the holder and a pedal up the mountain was done. The dog jogged right beside me. Made it to the height of land of the loop road then coated down the mountain.
Stopped at the log cabin, turned around, and began to pedal back up the mountain to meet the dog. The US Mail Carrier pulled up, gave the dog a biscuit, and we chatted about events in town. Pedaled for an hour, which was plenty for me, in the ideal 65° afternoon.
The temp is 46° with the high to be 72°. There is a 50% chance of rain. Off to the market later, then to other stores.
Have a fantastic day!

Good Morning keywest!
What's new with you?
At 7 AM 120 lbs (54.55 kilograms) of pelletized lime was spread on the areas of my lawn that are under pine trees. The needles turn the soil acidic and moss was beginning to grow. Time to return to a full lawn.
Left at 9 AM to mail my bills and food shop. Had the desire for Mexican food for 2 days. Would not eat at the only near to be a Mexican Restaurant in a 50 mile radius that opens at 11 AM. Sure dislike disappointment.
Went out to WM to buy flour tortillas, black olives, shredded Monterey Jack cheese, and some refried beans. Found a fabulous recipe on my 10th look on the net. Wanted to try it out.
The original recipe makes 8 servings for $15-$18 total cost including two chicken breasts. Rating is 4.5 of 5 stars. . PREP 15 mins COOK 20 mins or less READY IN 30 - 35 mins
1 tablespoon olive oil 2 cooked chicken breasts, shredded 1 onion, diced 1 green bell pepper, diced 1 1/2 cloves garlic, chopped Used 3 cloves. 1 cup cream cheese (used cottage cheese) 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce (optional-would be too liquidy) Did not add this. 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 tablespoon dried parsley 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 8 (10 inch) flour tortillas 2 10 oz cans enchilada sauce (optional, not used, as store bought has MSG) 1-2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
Also optional is 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, cumin, & paprika. These were added. Some also like 2-3 cups of cooked rice added.
Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir chicken, onion, green bell pepper, garlic, cream cheese, and 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese in hot oil until the cheese melts, about 5 minutes.
Stir tomato sauce, chili powder, parsley, oregano, salt, and black pepper into the chicken mixture. Divide mixture evenly into tortillas, roll the tortillas around the filling, and arrange in a baking dish.
Cover with enchilada sauce and remaining 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese. Bake in preheated oven until cheese topping melts and begins to brown, about 15 minutes. Gave it 5 stars. Have leftovers. Love it!

Rec'd a call back from an attorney that a message was left on her voice mail one week ago. AShe could have been on vacation last week. Phoned her back to once again leave a message on her machine. Said she could call me all afternoon until 4 PM. More telephone tag.
Big rain storms arrived south of me yesterday. The high was 74°, in mostly cloudy skies. The humidity was just 46% with a most pleasant dew point of 52°. It is the dewpoint, not humidity, that determines the comfort level.
The temp is a cool 46° in the mountains with an expected high of 64° in partly cloudy skies.
Have a wonderful day!

Your Movie on this first Sunday in June is Riding the Rails to Heaven. The music, entitled "Even Thorough the Distance," is from one of my favorite performers, Ernesto Cortazar.
Enjoy a peaceful and restful Sunday.
