Just cause I'm interested in wines, thought I'd ask this question, and see what people are drinking

We had some Frascati with dinner tonight. It was homemade from a kit.

2012 Hermann J. Wiemer Riesling Dry Magdalena Vineyard. From the Finger Lakes region of New York, this is an excellent white wine, and one of the best versions of Reisling you can find outside of Germany.

Double Dog Dare Cabernet Sauvignon. Pretty good for a budget wine of only $3.

Burgess Grenache 2009, good fruit but a little out of balance. OK with food.

2009 Living in the Limelight, a Petit Verdot from Rasa in Walla Walla, Washington. Good fruit, nice flavor, if it had a fault it was the lack of complexity.

Herman Weimar Gewurtztraminer 2012 ($24) from Lake Senaca in upstate New York. Medium spicy, round wine that worked well with sushi.

Domaine Huet Petillant ($30) Sparking Vouvray from the Loire Valley. Really nicely done, it pleases the serious wine drinker but is fruit focused enough to make once-a-year Champagne drinkers happy.

I am impressed with the Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary 2012 which was given 96 points (which seems a bit high).

2011 Domaine des Coutures Saumur-Champigny. A Cabernet Franc form the Loire Valley of France. Cool climate Cab Franc at its' best, medium bodied with good fruit but without the fruit bomb flavors you get in warmer areas. For less than $20 it is a steal.

2013 Rustenberg Sauvignon Blanc ($12) South African Sauvignon Blanc does not have as much of the grassy, wet cat smell as the Australians. Nice cocktail wine.

2006 Faury St. Joseph ($19). The syrah-based wines of France's St. Joseph can we quite a bargain. This was under $20, full of flavor, and an excellent match for beef.

It was in 1965. The football coaches wife and I killed off two bottles of some red wine and I puked all over a nice white sweater of mine. The coach was out at a football game in the rain and neither of us wanted to watch our high school team get mangled and have to sit in the rain to do it. Wine was good until.....then things got pretty nasty. That's why my drink since then has been beer.

Rotie Cellars VdP 2010 ($20). Rhone blend really hit the spot with the first roast of the fall.

Reynvaan Queens Road White 2012. Basically only available thru the winery, but if you ever see it on a wine list splurge and give it a try. Outstanding stuff from Washington State.
