If it's cold out, I'll let the car idle for about 45 seconds to a minute, then drive gently for the next 5 or 10 minutes, until the oil has a chance to get fully up to temp.
In summer, I give it about 15 seconds before putting into gear and taking off gently for 3 or 4 miles.

you're lucky! it's been in the single digits the past month & mines take at least 10 min before it idles down to 700 rpms

contiki, OP asks how long? not a yes/ no answer

i usually run it for 10-15 min with this record polar vortex ~ that's 20 degrees F lower than the norm for this time

A minute or two as recommended by owners manual. It's not good to let your car just sit and idle because oil pressure is lower and flows in the same path. It's better to drive very mildly until warm, and lightly fluctuate rpms.
