Hello,

Years ago when I worked in a garage (1968 - 1969) a Road Hazard Warranty was built into the purchase price of each tire. Today, I know of no tire with such a warranty. Most, if not all, new tires have an optional Road Hazard Warranty which covers tire damage which cannot be repaired (e.g. damaged side wall, ply separation, etc.). The warranties are closely priced to their competition and have a great many exclusions such as abuse.

Do you purchase a Road Hazard Warranty with your new tires? Has the warranty lived up to your expectations? As always your comments are welcome :-).

depends on how strapped for cash at the time and if it will cover the side wall.

As the last set of tyres I bought came off a car about to be dismantled, I have no warranty with them. However they are almost new, quality brand and should last thirty to forty thousands miles.

Yes. Sam's and Discount Tire.
We've used it many times. Last fall, I used it when a driver in front of me drove over some firewood and kicked it into my lane and I couldn't avoid it. Wrecked the tire and bent the rim. Discount Tire replaced the tire for pretty cheap.

When it has been included at no cost, yes. I will not pay extra for it. And I have never lost a tire due to a road hazard. Look where you are driving, most hazards can be easily avoided.

I just bought a couple of tyres, I think the extra warranty payment ( remember this is a warranty, NOT a guarantee ) is a con.

The tire shop where I buy tires includes a road hazard warranty with every tire they sell. In addition, they do free rotations and balancing every 8,000 miles.

Hi AFOS,

You said, "Wish it had a road hazard warranty, although since it is not repairable that might not have helped." I sense from some GBs that this may be the reason for not purchasing the road hazard warranty. There is so much "legaleze" in the warranty that one is not certain if the warranty will cover the damage or it will be classified as "abuse".

Off topic, congratulations on your new 2013 Honda Accord. I hope you have many trouble-free miles out of it :-).

Take care :-). MGY
