#1 on my list is Ford's EcoBoost 3.5L V-6 in the Mustang. Nice blend of fuel economy and power.

#2: The 201 hp 2.4L motor from the Civic Si in the CR-V. If the CR-V needs anything it's a tad more power. With the turbo 4-cyl from the RDX gone from the lineup, that leaves only the 201 hp four-popper.

A small diesel (as in the Rabbit diesel) 5-6 manual gearbox,in a small pickup truck. Make it basic and include everything standard. Buyer chooses auto or manual gearbox and color, all the rest is standard. Simple, durable and inexpensive in a basic model.

The 6 cylinder engine that was in my STS and my Camaro now is a winner.

Mertie, the question was what we prefer, not what you'd prefer for us. I like to have the V8 and manual transmission. Does that mean I'm flooring it just to be stopped at the next red light? No, I'm not. I just love the old V8/stick combination.

I'd like to see the 2.5L motor in the Malibu and Impala put in the Cruze. Taller gearing would offset any efficiency losses. That dinky 1.4L four-popper really isn't enough.

Todays cars have enough power to attain the proper speed limits. You don't need power to waste energy and blast away from every light so you can stop immediately at the next one, and burn up the brake rotors.

Cummins is a diesel engine most commonly used in Ram pickups with the tranny most commonly used in GM pickups.

Me personally, I love the classic combo of a 350 small block with a manual transmission.

I don't care who makes it

4 cil Diesel , with turbo
with a normal belt ,chain , gear , driven injection pump
push rod valves 2 per cil
no electronics at all , even a push button for the glow plugs transmission should be 4 speed automatic with overdrive and lock up converter , all hydraulic actuated , no body computer

mount this in something small and simple like a remake of the VW rabbit

cheep , simple , easy to repair , run on any fuel (except gasoline)
