Are you for PHOTO RADAR or against it....

In Ontario we have photo radar a number of years ago under a NDP Ontario government........

After the election and the NDP government was removed from government, the photo radar was scraped by the present government.......

During us having photo radar at the time, speed limits were observed and agressive driving was not a issue..........

I think photo radar has a place in today's society because it makes our highways a safer place.............

Tell me how you see photo radar and do you think there is a need for it............

I welcome your comments on this important issue.....

MertieMan says " Are you referring to red light cameras? We don't have that and I hope we never get it."

No MertieMan Photo Radar that is used on our highways....where a van or a vehicle of some kind is off the highway clicking photos of speeders as they pass by......

Ontario had photo radar years ago under a NDP government....when the liberals were elected they scrap photo radar.........

It seem that our highways seem much safer back when photo radar was around........

It is still talk about here in Ontario...............

Another annoyance that won't be going away. Why? It makes money for the cop shops.

I found Photo radar has it merit on our highways when we had it years ago..

Motorists drove the speed limit and no crazy drivers were ever seen...

Many drivers went the speed limit because they never knew where photo radar was.....

They has been much talk about bringing Photo Radar back to Ontario...

Some like it while others disliked it very much......now they are talking about it again...

Back when Ontario had photo radar, years ago, motorists drove much more safely and did the speed limit on our highways because they never knew where Photo Radar was....................

It is hard to argue on that kind of safety on Ontario highways....that how I saw it and wonder if photo radar was so bad......

I was never in favour of photo radar and still have mixed feelings about it but after some reflection of the past when Photo Radar was legal in Ontario....

It seem that our highways were a lot safer back then.....

I am totally against it. If a city wants to issue speeding tickets their police better get out there and write some.

If it is in a school or playground areas and a warning sign is posted, then I think it is a good idea. I'm against them if they're hidden. If they are there as a deterrent, then they would be more effective if a notice is given.

The city of Chicago is in the process installing speed cameras. There was an article about a person who received a ticket for speeding and when she went to the website they provided to prove she was speeding.......her car was parked! Early glitches.

kennyman says "Don't like it. We have it here and it is a cash cow. It was started as a deterent for school and play ground zones which was ok then, now it is hidden and used all over even on hills and in open areas where a little speed doesn't hurt anyone. So watch out when you drive through here on the TransCanada Highway, you may get mail from here. "

kennyman,I never knew there was still photo radar here in Canada.....

Now I know....................thanks for sharing the information.......

I am set against it. Most drivers are habitual and drive the same speeds on the same stretches.
Most drive at least 10 kph over the limit and on regular radar you at least have a chance to adjust your driving habits if you get a ticket.

On photo radar you could get 10 tickets for the same stretch of road before you even get a chance to make an adjustment.

In BC demerits can be more costly than the tickets.

Sorry con but a definate No for me

PatAZ says "Not so down here contiki, all the owner has to say is it isn't me. Providing it isn't an identifying picture of him and he is home free."

PatAZ photo radar as you are describing it sound useless..........

I think photo radar was better in Ontario when we had it....

As I said before....

In Ontario way back when we had photo radar the licence plate on the vehicle was in the photo and the registered owner of the vehicle got the ticket......

You the registered owner would have to know who is driving your vehicle at all times because you were responsible if your vehicle was caught on photo radar.....

I thought all photo radar was done the same way but you PatAZ you have made me see it in another way that is not that good............

I see too much room for motorists in your area doing wrong and getting away with it.......not a good thing either...............

That usually is how it works with photo radar in most cases.........

I am old school, if a police officer didn't see you or catch you with his radar, then I don't like it, period. There are entirely too many discrepancies in these things.

We don't need radars! What we NEED is people who learn how to drive, what the laws and rules are. Watch someone park in TORONTO! FRIGHTENING.
No use of flashers. They stubbornly remain in the left lane; signal, use the horn, high beams, Nothing will make them budge. And women tell me that women are the worse. What we need if for everyone to become a race car driver...

Photo radar is dead in Ontario now a days and if cops are not to be seen than drivers drive wild....

They post signs on our highways about heavy fines if caught speeding but many drivers don't pay any attentions to these signs because cops are somewhere else and not seen.......

Judge Ruehlman ruled against the village of Elmwood Place's traffic camera use. He called the camera system “a scam” and “a sham” and compared the village’s use of them to a con artists’ card game.

I see our highways have change much over the years with drivers speeding well over speed limits, cutting other motorist off and agreesive driving period because they isn't a cop to be seen for miles......

Ontario had photo radar years ago and I was not in favour of it one bit and now we don't and I heard on the news last night that it will not return to Ontario under the present government......

Seeing how our highways have become makes me think photo radar has merit and would maybe change our highways back to being more normal again....

"just had to pay for a ticket from one. luckily it is not a moving violation somehow "

That's something else that bothers me about this, if I were to run the afoul of the local red light cameras, it would be a $100 non moving violation ticket. Seems to me that something like that should be a moving violation since it can be dangerous to other motorists.
