Diesel by far. Especially for commuting. Diesel fuel here in Canada is only slightly higher than regular gas whereas in the USA it seems to be 50 or 60 cents more per gallon which is crazy...but getting 700 miles (1100km) to 15 gallons of fuel is awesome. Oil change every 10,000 miles, even costing double that of a gas engine, still save money. I won't ever buy a gas powered car again after having my TDI Jetta.

Gas for me. Don't drive the miles necessary for paying the diesel cost.

Pretty complex calculation......
Diesel is much more expensive out of the box but generates savings with every mile driven.
Then there's also the increased value at trade in.
To get your particular costs in order, you need to know what the additional first cost is, the amount of mileage you will put on, and the trade in value at the end of your partnership. Crunch those numbers and you'll determine if diesel is a winner for you.

How long are you planning to keep the vehicle? Short term, gas will be cheaper. Long term vehicle, diesel.

Generally, diesel...but, it depends on how long you plan to own the vehicle.

Depends on how many miles you drive and the length of time you will keep the vehicle?

Gasoline only, diesel fuel is $1.00 or more per gallon higher than regular gasoline, and gas will last as long as diesel if you maintain them properly.

Diesel, but the vehicle may disintegrate around it where I live with all the salt used on the roads in the Winter time.
