If your only traveling a few hundred miles, air is not worth all the hastle. For me to go from Tracy to Los Angeles, I can do it in 4 hours. I need to leave home about 3 hours before my flight time for a plan. Then I need to rent a car in LA. The train is kind of fun once in awile. YOu can usually park a the train station for free. To travel by train, I need someone to meet me at the other end. Since train stations don't usually have rental car arrangements.

I just got back from a road trip to San Franciso. Nice 1500 mile drive and gas buddy hooked me up with the best diesel price in Fernley, NV. Thanks gas buddy!!!

It totally depends on the distance and the reason for travel. For pleasure & if I have time to kill car or train, no doubt. If the distance is more than several hundred miles and it's a business thing, then by air.

I like to drive, but, if the trip takes more than 8 hours by car, I prefer to fly, then rent a vehicle. Anything shorter than an 8 hour drive, I'll take my own car.

I prefer driving my car. I no longer travel long distances and am retired with my family in the area. Twenty-five years of air travel, rental cars, airports and hotel rooms was enough for me.

I enjoy driving the old 2-lane 'blue highways' and also taking the train purely for pleasure. When necessary, I still enjoy driving the interstates and also traveling by train* - don't care for flying so much due to the hassle at airports, etc, but when scheduling requires...

If you've not done it, overnight intercity train is a real fine way to travel, particularly certain overnight routes where you do on the train what you would otherwise do on a given evening at home - ie. board the train, have dinner in the dining car while enjoying the scenery go by, enjoy some cocktails/conversation, watch a movie, sleep in your private compartment, wake up to newspaper under your door, enjoy w/coffee, take a shower, have breakfast in dining car, and arrive at your destination. Washington, DC - Chicago is one such convenient route - and it's downtown to downtown, don't need to fight traffic from airport to city if that is where you are headed. Plus, the scenery is often breathtaking - great way to 'See America First'!

Yes it depends upon where I'm traveling to and what time of the year. I don't like traveling by air when the weather is bad.

Depends on the destination and how much time I have. I like to have my own vehicle, but when I travel for work, they fly me and give me a rental.
