I checked mine and wasn't satisfied with how it looked, because it wasn't clean enough for me. It could cause me some other problems later if it's too dirty. Like burning gas right?

yes & I change when needed. Most of my larger engines have vacuum gages on
the air cleaner housings to let you know it's time to change the air filter.

Which air filter are you talking about. The engine air filter or the cabin air filter?

The air filter, unless it is heavily clogged, has very little impact on gas mileage.

"Like burning gas right? "

Modern computerized cars adjust the fuel flow to match air flow. The main effect is on power, especially during acceleration. MPGs? Not so much.

I check my air filter about once a couple times per year.

Yes, the dirtier the air filter, the harder it is to breathe, and considering the engine needs air to run properly, it'll use more gas the dirtier the filter is.

Check it at least twice a year.
