I've had three vehicles recalled for various problems - (emissions, door locks, and recently the fuel line). Just wondering how common recalls are without the public knowing.

2012 Chevrolet Sonic 2 LT Hatchback - No Recalls
2007 Dodge Caliber SXT - No Recalls

Past History:

1979 Ford F-100 - Defective EEC IV (Electronic Engine Control IV) (Hidden Warranty) Module - replaced and warranty extended for three years

1979 Ford F-100 - Defective Paint (Silver) (Hidden Warranty) - Repainted vehicle

1991 Ford Aerostar XLT - Recall (Hidden Warranty) - defective O-rings for Freon hoses to rear air-conditioning unit. Three A/C failures until I found out about the known problem and received $700.00 back from Ford for past repairs made.

1999 Ford Contour SE - Front defroster vents not secured to dashboard - Replaced dashboard due to improper installation of modification kit by dealership

2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - Recalled for corroding tailgate cables - Replaced cables

2000 VW Passat - Advisory Notice for sludging problem - Different oil & filter requirements

2006 Chevrolet Cobalt LT - Recalled for defective electric power steering motors - Replaced Power Steering Motor (limited recall - only applied to certain VIN numbers)

I do agree with bluenvoy when he said, "It would be a lot worse if they didn't address there problems or mistakes with a recall. Everyone makes mistakes, the recall is a way to correct any potential problems." As you review my various recalls, some were "hidden" warranties which required the owner to research and fight for a resolution. In some cases the dealers had to be forced by time consuming calls to Detroit and meetings with Zone Representatives. One recall took six years of ownership to resolve (the 1991 Ford Aerostar XLT) and three repairs.

This is a good topic SloDog :-). Thanks - MGY

I've had only one vehicle in my life recalled, it was a 1997 Dodge Dakota pickup which was subject to a recall for a bracket attached to a frame-rail that held, I think, the brake line.

My truck had the bracket, so no work was needed.

Every new car I've ever owned has been recalled at least once.

What happened in the old days when a manufacturing fault was found - just ignored?

I have had some recalls on vehicles. Nothing too serious, but still had to get them fixed.
