I would text them and tell them to drop that phone and keep your eye on the road

I won't ride with an individual such as this, period. I drive myself and tote my own satchel, thank you.

I would tell him that I like living, so can you wait until we get where we are going to text, so I won't be in fear of us getting into an accident.

Since this person does not like to converse in conversation, the only option would be to text him/her to stop and concentrate on the road.

I wouldn't allow anyone to text while driving... I'm rarely a passenger.

I misread your topic and thought you were talking about the passenger -- my misunderstanding. As a passenger, I would ask/demand the driver stop texting and concentrate on driving.

I'd ask if I can do the texting for the driver, so he or she can concentrate on driving. If that didn't work, I'd take the phone away and tell them they can get it back when we've arrived at our destination.

I grapple with the driver and try to wrestle the device out his hands, all the while praying that we don't die in a fiery crash...

I take the device out of their hands. If they start to get huffy about it I will tell them to just shut up and drive.

I would politely ask them to turn off the phone. If they continued, I'd pull over and explain that texting on an ongoing non-stop basis compromised my concentration and we would go no further until the phone was turned off. Yes, the incoming beep then another and another and another indicating a new message just came in would necessitate the phone be turned off. No other option!

Professional pilots the world over divide cockpit duties; one pilot flies the plane; the other one handles communications and other chores that would otherwise distract the pilot flying and thus compromise safety.

I would have a few choice words for them and then either have them put the damn phone down or let me out.
