Fuel injector Cleaner will not increase gas mileage. Period. If your injectors are clogged, the additive may RESTORE mileage but it will NOT increase the gas mileage in a properly functioning engine.
Products like Sea Foam and B12 will not increase gas mileage either. They will restore lost gas mileage but would do nothing in a properly functioning engine.

In the aftermarket there are two kinds of additives. In the first class we have those additives that are supposed to eliminate a problem. Fuel injector cleaner is a good example. Makers of these products usually will claim that you will get increased mileage and lower emissions. This sounds good but the catch is that this never happens. If you fix some kind of problem with an additive, what you're going to do is restore mileage that was lost due to the problem. You cannot actually gain mileage by restoring an engine to its original condition.
In the second class we have claims that the additive will somehow increase the efficiency of the combustion process. One of the most frequent ploys involve products that have some sort of catalyst will unlock power from the fuel that is normally wasted. I have yet to see any of these actually work.
Then there's the most controversial additive of all in my view: acetone. There doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground. Either it's a panacea or it's snake oil. Each side is pretty vocal about their stance and equally dismissive of the other's point of view.
Acetone is supposed to reduce the surface tension of fuel making it easier to combust but that's a far cry from being able to know under what conditions it will work. To date I've seen no test where the cars were properly prepared for really testing acetone. This would involve modifying the emissions and fuel delivery systems. Without the changes we cannot determine if acetone can help or not. A big variable is the emissions system. It SEEMS that older emissions systems don't respond as quickly to the lean-exhaust conditions that acetone creates and these vehicles are likely to see an improvement as opposed to new systems that respond more quickly by enriching the fuel mixture.
Consequently, the truth of the matter is that we really don't know if acetone works and the resources necessary to test it are not available because no company has anything to gain. Consequently those who believe acetone is snake oil ask for empirical proof knowing it's not available. All adherents have to offer is anecdotal testimony so there's no way to resolve the dispute.

I may use an additive from time to time just in case I get some faulty fuel or there may have been condensation built up over time. I don't use much for injector cleaner anymore. I started trying to get fuel system cleaned at a auto service place.
