Just bought a nice '10 with 28K miles. $13.9K for a car which originally went for $28K. Great car, a performance sports sedan with all the toys. Luxurious and frugal on gas. My last used car was a '97 that I bought in '02. 5 years old with 68K miles. It lasted 200K and in fact its still sitting in my driveway. Retired it.

That sure changes the arithmetic, considering a car's value depreciates 50% in the first two years. There are various sites which list cars' depreciation schedules, of course. One should check these and the maintenance records of the used car they're considering.
