My son said Volvo Brown was the best because it always looked like dirt. Clean dirt or dirty dirt was my problem.

I once had an old Ford work car, It was light blue and it never got a bath except for the rain. From 20 ft. away it always looked clean, tires got a bit shabby at times.

A once-white van is parked under a tree half a block from where I live. It is in a private driveway and has not moved in over three years. Layers of tree sap and other organic detritus have created a unique colour effect, perhaps with the introduction of plasmodial slime mold. What we have is the colour of bone, the colour of tree moss, the colour of manure, and the colour of a sidewalk outside a really seedy bar. No rust yet.

This is why I break down and wash my car sometimes. That van stands out as a warning to all of us lazy buggers in this moist climate.

I think a car can only get so dirty no matter what color it is. After it reaches a certain state of grime, it doesn't get any worse. If you have no problem at that level then you are all set. Most trucks and jeeps live their life at this level. If anything it improves their looks.

Good Morning yodudbc,

I am surprised to find my "Inferno Orange" Chevrolet Sonic doesn't show the spring pollen and road dirt as much as many other colors. It is the brightest orange metallic on the road (really!), but you don't notice the dirt so much until you wash it.

Take care :-). MGY

i agree with wamster.

Soil here in the SoCal desert is light brown; soil in some areas of Arizona and in Red Rock Canyon, CA, is red, and in Minnesota it is BLACK! Here in the desert, my silver Accord is great for not showing dirt. Black cars show the dust prominently.

Clean grey looks shiny grey. Dirty grey is just grey.
