I received a letter from Ford stating there was a map update for my navigation system, and a software update for the jukebox hard drive. I can record nearly 2500 songs onto the hard drive or 10 GB. I purchased the 4 DVD set.

I filled up my fuel tank, because the instructions state it could take up to 4 1/2 hours to complete the upgrades.

Whew! I'll start this project tomorrow.

"Wow! I've never heard of that! My Chevy doesn't have such issues."

It's not a 5 speed manual, right? The auto trans. torque converter absorbs the 4.3L Vortec V6's surging and delayed throttle release when A/C is on. Dealer told me "if you had an automatic you wouldn't feel it" Typical GM attitude toward customers.

it's downright dangerous when very hot; the motor stays revved up, sometimes 3-4 sec, when you hit the brakes!

I wish there was an update for my '99 Chevy Blazer's driveability problem with A/C running. Had the prob. since day 1, dealer told me "it's the manual transmission software, we can't help you" (!!)

Next "new" car will be a vintage Mustang w/ NO software.

Yes, 2 updates since last August.
First was a simple update of the Ford Sync.
The latest was a Sync/Navigation update which required a new SD card for the Nav (Ford mailed it to me). I also downloaded the latest sync update on a thumb drive which took maybe 1 minute.
Cost = $0
I plugged thumb drive into usb port in car and replaced old nav sd card with new nav sd card.
Time = less than 50 minutes (car had to be running, but radio worked for almost the entire time)
After update was successfully completed, I had to visit the SyncMyRide website to confirm the update by plugging that thumb drive into my pc.

I do not have a hard drive in the Taurus, so no jukebox.

Overall experience = Painless :-)

So far, the Ford SYNC in my Escape has not been updated and I don't know if the dealer has upgraded any other firmware as I've just gone in for routine maintenance. However, there is at least one known bug in SYNC that they were trying to chase down a while back.

Not yet, but, for my wife's Volvo, we may have to have it done for a software update related to the anti-skid program.

I guess this is going to be a yearly $199 project if I want to keep my in dash navigation and jukebox updated. There was a four CD set again this year. Two software update CD's, a navigation update CD, and a Gracenote update CD. I was able to turn the engine off after 5% of the updates had completed. A couple of the CD's took 2 hours each to update.

The new navigation CD added street speed limits too, which is very helpful.

I have a Garmin, and I purchased the lifetime update for $99. I definitely use my Garmin in conjunction with my in dash system on more extensive travel trips. But I also want to get full use of my in dash system too.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has updated their navigation and software systems. Please avoid answering if you're just posting for points and answering yes or no.
