I changed my G-Oil today after about 5 months and 3,385 miles. I read that Mobil suggests when switching to synthetic to run a couple short OCI before going to extended intervals. The oil looked dark but great shape. Looking forward to more FAR deals. I now have two more jugs in waiting.

Got my 3rd rebate today. So the first three 5 quart jugs of G-Oil cost less than $8 including materials and postage. One more $26 rebate to go. They are slow to process but good to their word.

There are UOAs to check out over @ BITOG. Looks to be just fine for a 5k OCI. Someone with a Volvo went over 10k and had a UOA done showing very good results with low wear metals. If your car is still under warranty I guess I would be wary. The oil is in my car and my butt dyno says this is a good product.

With nanotechnology and pixie dust!
Seriously, do some poking around on the internet and you'll see it is a fine oil especially when you get the rebate :-)

OK! I received my $26 rebate. So, the oil cost me a postage stamp, a page printout, & an envelope. Not too shabby.

Hello Houckster. You and I have provided a great deal of the dexos1 & dexos2 oil standard information mandated by General Motors for all vehicles to include gasoline and diesel. Your statement, "GM has made their certification program very expensive" is a sad testimony to corporate mandates and their desire for profits. Valvoline is a very good product, but they too operate on a profit/loss basis. In their case and others as well, they have to weigh the cost of certification against the amount of oil that will be used in General Motor's vehicles. These mandates, certifications, patents, license fees, etc. ultimately cost the consumer a great deal of money.
In this topic as well as others like it, manufacturers threaten the customer's warranty coverage as a way to achieve their goals. It really isn't fair, but. . . Thank you for the information :-) .

I don't know that I'd hestitate using an oil if it meets the SN standard. It should be fine, especially if it also complies with the dexos 1 standard.

It seems to be holding up well according to UOAs on Bob is the Oil Guy. For the average car 5000-6000k OCIs will be acceptable, but I wouldnt recommend it for turbo or direct injection applications until more testing is done.

I have never paid $26 for 5 quarts of motor oil but there is a rebate so it pencils out quite nicely. Also, I do not go past 5k OCI. Usually about 3.5k. And the user reviews on Amazon are favorable.

It apparently does not meet the dexos standard which is NOT synonomous with API SN.
Maybe I should say it's not certified for dexos 1. GM has made their certification program very expensive. Valvoline, for example, has opted out though they say some of their oils meet the standard. Many worthy oil may never carry the dexos certification label.

Supposedly meets all the specifications for a SN, GF-5 oil.
