Houckster, try driving a late model Sonata with a 4 cylinder, that car is fast. The Camry equipped with a 4 has plenty of power.

The 2014 Impala (it may depend on trim level) comes standard with a 4 and optional for a 6. At this point if you want a new sedan with a V6 you do not have many choices in the midsize market and some full size sedans are optional on the V6 now.

We have a 2004 Toyota Camry with a 4-banger and you can get in plenty of trouble with that engine. It'll go 80 with a couple of passengers EASILY. The 4-bangers of recent years are not at all like the slugs that used to be available.

MNRICK041: You are right about the Malibu. I get the Malibu and the Impala mixed up because I'm not as familiar with Chevrolet as I am with Ford. I was just on vacation and we rented a 2013 Malibu. It was a very good car. My brother-in-law who always buys Hondas was very favorably impressed. I enjoyed riding in the car. There was a good amount of room in the back seat and plenty of headroom. We didn't take any mpg readings but it seemed like we got excellent mileage too.

Houckster, you can no longer get a 6 in a Malibu starting in 2013. Several mid sized cars still have available V6 but you will be paying extra for it. They are no longer standard.

I just got a Ford Escape with a 2.0 liter turbo engine. It has plenty of power, almost as good as the V6 Fusion I traded in.

4-cylinder engines are generally more efficient and the V-6 will gradually fade away because they use too much fuel. For example, only 4-cylinder engines are the only engine available on a Ford Fusion. You can still get a V-6 on a Chevrolet Malibu but I don't think it will be available for long.

Four cylinder. I have owned straight 4s, horizontally opposed 4s, and even drove a SAAB with a V4. They all were more than adequate.
