I wash the car by hand, usually 1-2x /week in the warm months, carwash in the winter.

If you want swirls and damaged paint, by all means go to a car wash. If you want to protect you finish for much longer, do it properly by hand.

Depends what you mean by car wash. There are some that are as good as a hand wash and don't use brushes. Touchless car washes are awesome. In Calgary there is a by-law against washing your car where the soap could drain into the sewer system. Only thing to do if not a car wash is a wand wash and that's pretty close to a hand wash.

I truly hope Texas gets some rain. We've been through some pretty dry spells in Georgia and its no fun. California is in the same boat and climate predictions indicate that drought will be a more frequent occurrence. We may wind up having to desalinate ocean water for use.

As to keeping a car clean, unless your car is caked with mud, a high pile microfiber wash mitt and some car wash (Optimum No Rinse for example) can get the water usage down to 3-4 gallons. If it's just dusty, a few microfiber towels and detailing spray will be more than sufficient. UPS used this method to keep their trucks presentable during our last drought.

Handwash all the way!!

But here in N.TX we are turning into a desert! With the low lake levels (27% full) we have been on water restrictions for many months! This means no car washing at home of any kind... =(

Please pray for rain down here gas buddies.

I get it hand washed unless I take it to the dealer. I don't know exactly how they wash it but they do a pretty decent job.
