Would you leave your Asian vehicle and go back to GM, Ford or Chrysler. The domestics as you hear and read are improving would you go back to ownership of one of them or would stay with your Asian vehicle.....Would you wait awhile to find out the results of how GM, Ford and Chrysler are doing in reliability for the long run like 3years or even 5 years before you changed brands....Tell me what you think.......

I love my bosses 2009 Nissan Maxima

I also love my 2009 Pontiac G8With our cars having almost the same mileage and the same model year, I'd have to say more electronic issues are with the Maxima.

Power steering adjust, broken twice.
Door locks on both driver's side, non working
Rear power sun shade non working.

So far the G8 had a misfire issue which was fixed under warranty @ 40,000 miles

Both good vehicles, just more headaches with the Nissan.

Also, the Remote start on the G8 wins HANDS DOWN here in Michigan. :-)

Cars and light trucks are shrinking and shedding weight to save fuel, but automakers aren't neglecting good looks and speed.

For instance, at the North American International Auto Show next week Audi is showing the RS7, a high-performance version of the A7. And Chevrolet will unveil a redesigned Corvette.

BMW has redesigned the 3-series coupe and has given it a new name, the 4 series.

And expect a high-performance SRT version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Here is a roundup of world production and concept debuts along with other offerings planned for the show.

ACURA
Acura will unveil a near-production version of the 2014 MDX mid-sized crossover, the brand's top seller. The car should give a clear idea of where Acura's Aero Sculpture design is headed. That design language takes over from the Keen Edge design that was criticized for its "beak" grille.

Last time i checked, this is an opiniated site.
Maybe you should read what others post. As for cramping my style, the only cramps i get is reading from you "I own a Honda' " Honda makes the best why change" over and over that i need to releive myself.Further more any garble that you post is of no interest to me period.Because you have nothing to say. You're the copy paste boy of GB. But you sure know how to knock others, of course not with your creative writing, but with the click of a mouse, about the failures of all the car companies but HONDA.

At least i can list things and make comments about it, which is more than you can do.You just seem to be a copy & paste person as we can see by all your listings in this topic. Didn't you open another topic "automotive news...".well maybe just stick to what works for you.
As for my out of date listings, i can live with my error, and its good that others can comment to my mistakes. They do it with respect. But the bottom line was "made in canada" does not appeal to me,present or past.Another thing is i have the guts to reply if i err, something others cannot attest to.
But i guess your just "special".

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Subaru is recalling vehicles in the United States for potential lighting problems that could lead to smoke or fire, according to U.S. safety regulators.

The recall by Subaru, owned by Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., potentially affects some Forester vehicles from model years 2009 through 2012, all Legacy and Outback vehicles from model years 2010 and 2011, and some Tribeca vehicles from model years 2006 through 2012, according to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The vehicles potentially affected by the recall are equipped with accessory puddle lights that when lit brighten the areas under the doors, according to NHTSA documents.

Technically, the recall includes 634,000 vehicles that could have been equipped with the feature, but a Subaru spokesman said the recall involves only 53,999 cars equipped with the lights. The wider number of owners must be alerted because the company does not know which cars have them.

Actually Das, that list you posted is quite old. There's probably a half dozen or more vehicles that are history now. The Ford plant is St. Thomas has been empty for about two years now and Suzuki left CAMI a long time ago. Speaking of CAMI, I don't expect GM to continue to manufacture there for very much longer. They've already re-tooled a factory in the US for overflow production of the Equinox and unless the CAW makes more concessions on wages, GM will probably pull out. They've already announced that Camaro production will move south. GM's market share in Canada has shrunk to it's lowest level ever, so I don't believe they're too concerned about the Canadian market.

GM recalls nearly 69,000 vehicles worldwide.....

DETROIT - General Motors is recalling nearly 69,000 pickup trucks, SUVs and vans worldwide, including a number in Canada, because they can roll away unexpectedly.

The recall affects certain 2013 models of the Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, Avalanche and Express. Also included are the GMC Sierra, Savana and Yukon as well as the Cadillac Escalade.

GM says the vehicles may have been built with faulty park lock cables or malformed steering column lock gears. The vehicles can be shifted out of park even if the ignition key is in the off position or removed. GM says about one in 1,000 of the vehicles has the problem and most haven't been sold yet.

The company says it knows of no crashes or injuries caused by the problem.

TORONTO (Reuters) -- Ford Motor Co. of Canada was the top-selling automaker in Canada for the third year in a row in 2012 but Chrysler, boosted by demand for its fuel-efficient passenger cars, knocked General Motors from the No. 2 perch.

Ford said today it sold 276,068 vehicles in Canada last year, just 90 more than it sold in 2011. Its popular line-up of F-Series trucks made up more than 100,000 of the sales, and remained the best-selling vehicle in Canada for the third consecutive year.

Chrysler Canada said its vehicle sales rose 6 percent to 243,845, making it No. 2 in Canadian sales last year, up from third place in 2011.
Chrysler Canada CEO Reid Bigland said the Canada unit had its best retail sales results last year since 2000.

"Our investment in fuel-efficient new vehicles and power trains has propelled us to be the number two seller," Bigland said, forecasting continued strong sales in 2013.

Better strike the Torrent from your list, not only is it no longer built in Canada but it is no longer built anywhere in the world...

Equinox is also assembled in Oshawa (for now).

I love this topic as it seems all of us are doing all we can to change our economy. There was also a good point made about where the headquarters is based is where the money ends up. This isn't the case. I worked for a company for near a decade and dealt with all aspects of both financial and sales. Each place had an American based head quarters. Money spent directly with these divisions was US based and taxed in the US - the bad part is that after that point this location would turn and place the order request overseas and that is where American Jobs are lost. So back to cars, money spent here stays here until a part is ordered from overseas. Toyota has one of the largest U.S. based car manufacturing plants located state side.

I did see a note about Japan and how they are not importing from other countries but keeping their currency held tight. EXTREMELY true! Our largest "trade debt" (stock market terms) is too Japan. We import A LOT of items from them, and they don't buy anything from us except for some beef, which we are losing to Mexico. This type of interactions is why our dollar is becoming worth less and less, and we have some people that represent our country think all we need to do is print more... as our national debt grows countries have been backing out of letting us import from them because they feel "we are writing a check that will bounce"

If they have a factory here to make the cars, look inside "the location I previously mentioned" and you can also see where the car was manufactured. If it's made in US, The company paid US taxes, it employed US citizens to piece it together, and then the ball gets rolling, Truckers to deliver, dealership attendants to keep them clean on the lot - and you can also see the difference by VIN if the car was assembled in the US, or made in the US. Made in the US means the large majority of parts were made here also.

Most important, spend money here, and at the small local shops, the small shops make your city better, not New York or Chicago high rises.

I love the input in these discussions, It's awesome to learn - thank you for challenging my statements and speaking up! That is the way America was founded! Other countries I think we would be in jail by now. :)

Honda launches Civic campaign -- again..................

LOS ANGELES -- Honda Civic launch campaign … take three.
Trying to build momentum behind the midcycle freshening of its core compact car, Honda is launching the Civic with a new advertising campaign for the third time in 20 months. This time, the campaign's focus is on Honda's quest for continuous improvement. The commercials talk about how Honda improved the Civic for 2013, leaving unsaid the shortcomings of the 2012 model.

In April 2011, Honda conducted a traditional launch campaign -- estimated at $100 million -- for the 2012 Civic redesign. The campaign featured a lumberjack, zombie, ninja, monster and masked Mexican wrestler representing the various ways the Civic was a car for everyone, under the tag line, "To Each Their Own."

The campaign landed with a thud. But what really derailed the launch was the March 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami, which crimped inventories and stalled sales. When supply lines opened, Honda relaunched the car in late 2011 with a new campaign that discussed the car's features and benefits.

Agree w/BIGZMEISTER, "American Made" (or "Canadian Made" in my case) can sometimes mean an Asian marque, such as the made-in-Ontario Honda Civic, or Toyota RAV4. I'd feel better driving one of those than a Mexican-made Focus or Journey. Current ride is F-150, but in spite of the blue oval it too is slipping on domestic content (once the king in this respect).

I would buy american made, which includes Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Saturn - the same as Chrysler and GM with the Government taking major part ownership have used this as a negotiation tool to help with trade agreements with other countries that were losing the need of any products we had. So just a friendly reminder, almost all cars are made both domestic and foreign, but the model of vehicle is made in US or Foreign. So before the big brand name makes a difference, do a search for a vehicles manufacturing location. P.S. it is also located inside the drivers side door where the VIN and Paint Code are listed.

I do recommend buy American, We are very lopsided on a lot importing and less and less exporting which equals the value of our dollar going down.

North American market sizzles............
Profits for automakers, suppliers and dealers.................

For Japanese automakers, 2012 was a year of sales, market share and North American production rebounds from the disastrous earthquake and tsunami of 2011.

But rising sales couldn't completely offset the hit Japanese makers took from the dollar-yen rate, which Honda Motor Co.'s CFO admitted made exports from Japan unprofitable. To cope, Honda, Mazda Motor Corp. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. revised their North American strategies, seeking to build North American production volumes as a natural hedge: With costs and sales both in dollars, the dollar-yen rate became less threatening.

Even as Japanese companies planned factories in North America -- often in Mexico -- to cut yen production costs, they set out to trim yen costs for engineering. Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda gave much more authority to their North American operations to engineer and develop vehicles for this market.

North American market sizzles............

I think Honda and Toyota on on course for the future...........

Some Volt dealers balk at tool tab...........

DETROIT -- Some Chevrolet dealers have stopped carrying the Volt after deciding that their sales didn't justify an additional $5,100 for tools to service the plug-in hybrid.

Last month, General Motors notified Chevrolet dealers of the added cost for tools, among other requirements, to keep selling and servicing the Volt.

The math didn't work for Allyn Barnard, owner of Jim Barnard Chevrolet in Churchville, N.Y., near Rochester. Barnard, who has sold five Volts since the car's launch two years ago, decided to quit the Volt authorized dealer program.

Barnard figures his sales and service revenue from those five sales have enabled him to break even on the nearly $5,000 he spent nearly two years ago on Volt tools, training and charging stations.

"Going forward, the profitability would be really hard for us to justify the expense of the repair tools," Barnard says.

Some dealers believe that GM is raising the requirements to be a certified Volt dealer because it wants a smaller network that would steer more Volts to bigger-volume dealers and regions. GM spokeswoman Michelle Malcho says that's untrue.

Looks like Ford is doing well..........

Ford brand tops 2 million sales in U.S. for second straight year......

DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co.'s namesake brand will top 2 million vehicles in U.S. sales this year and its Focus compact car was the top-selling model line worldwide through September, the automaker said.

Ford will be the only auto brand to exceed the 2 million sales level in the United States this year, the company said in a statement.

After Ford, the top-selling brands in the U.S. market this year are Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Dodge, Jeep and Volkswagen.
Ford models are on track to reach 2.2 million U.S. sales, up from 2.1 million last year, said Erich Merkle, the company's sales analyst.

It marks the second straight year the No. 2 U.S. automaker has surpassed the 2 million threshold.
But the company has acknowledged losing market share as it struggled to keep up with consumer demand.

Toyota poised to put major legal troubles in rearview mirror.......

DETROIT (Reuters) -- Toyota Motor Corp. eliminated a huge obstacle with a U.S. settlement over unintended acceleration in its cars and trucks, leaving it to fight smaller cases that will be harder for plaintiffs to prove and less likely to damage the company's growing sales.

While the Japanese automaker still faces possibly hundreds of personal injury lawsuits related to claims that its vehicles accelerated unintentionally, Wednesday's $1.1 billion settlement announcement will remove the last big roadblock to putting the issue behind it.

Sean Kane, president of Safety Research & Strategies and an outspoken critic of Toyota who has assisted plaintiffs' attorneys against the automaker, said the settlement covered the biggest financial hit for Toyota.

"Those are not billion-dollar cases," he said of the pending personal-injury lawsuits. "Those are at best million-dollar cases or multimillion-dollar cases. With a company like Toyota, that's not even something that's a blip on their radar."

At the time, the recall around the unintended acceleration issue and resulting lawsuits were a surprise for a company long associated with quality and reliability, and the resulting fallout led President Akio Toyoda to apologize publicly.
