Both hybrid models are advertised to return 47 mpg, but the owners say that number is inflated to seem more competitive among other midsize sedans, according to their court filing.

I just purchased a 2011 Toyota Matrix which is EPA'ed at 32 MPG. It replaced a 2007 Dodge Caliber SXT which was totaled in an accident. Interestingly, the Dodge was EPA'ed in 2007 as 31 MPG, but with the new 2008 EPA Standards (there is a conversion chart on their website) it dropped to 26 MPG, but we never got more than 24 MPG.
