These sob's are the first to raise prices and the last to lower them. They play games, popping the price up 20 cents to try to stir a panic, and when other stations follow then they back off. Therefore I do NOT buy Kwik Trip gas, ever.

What I am now more concerned about is gas quality but I am sure this is a big issue in smaller towns where there is less selection.

We now have a few new Kwik trip's open here. Maybe they are why gas just jumped up 15 cents overnight.

It's not Kwik Trip but SA that is always first also owned by Ashland Refinery so no middleman so they should be able to sell cheaper.

In the Twin Cities area it is SA that always jumps first and then the others follow.

All of our Kwik Trips are in the suburbs and a lot of times their prices are a little lower than in the city.

I like Kwik Trip because the people working in them are usually pretty decent and their stores are in good condition.

Kwik Trip just announce they're going to build 8-12 stations here around the Duluth area. Like we have a shortage of gas stations?

Well, the OP has described normal reaction to a price shock in a competitive market.
Let's say QT sells lots of gas and gets it often. When a large price increase hits of course they will raise first since they are buying often. Then they are out of the market with pricing until the other stations buy, which evens the game again. Then normal buying returns, and when prices drop QT again will get the new price early, and "back off". Other stations will have high priced gas in the ground as QT sells more and more at lowering prices.
This is what happens every time. No evil manipulation, but entirely driven by consumer buying patterns.

Are you telling us to boycott Kwik Trip or QT (QuickTrip)?

I don't understand why a station raising their prices would create a panic.

If you are talking about QT, I have found that they are usually one of the last stations to raise their price.

I think QT is a pretty decent retailer. Sure they might seem to go up first but that is because of their efficient network of oil price monitoring and communication between the station & corporate. Needless to say, near where I live there's a QT usually lower than the rest in the area. It all depends on nearby competitors prices. The retailers don't make much on the gas, they depend on the other things you purchase at their stores.

I buy Kwik trip only if it's the cheapest. Undecided about whether I believe the whole "top tier" gasoline hype they talk about in their commercials.

While sickofit complains about the gasoline price at Kwik Trip, Kwik Trip is known for having some of the lowest convenience store prices anywhere. Usually, Kwik Trip has lower prices on milk, eggs, butter, fruits, and snacks than nearby grocery stores.

This is the first time I have seen this allegation made against Kwik Trip. Usually in the Upper Midwest, SuperAmerica and Speedway are the chains who most posters complain about.

So if I get this right, Kwik Trip raises prices by 20 cents a gallon "to stir a panic". Other gas stations, which apparently are still paying the same (low) wholesale price) are panicking? And they're jumping their prices immediately? And when the other stations jump up, "then they back off"? That doesn't seem like they're the last to lower "them", that seems like they're quick to drop prices so that they can take business away from the higher price "other stations".

For that matter, if Kwik Trip is so fast to raise prices, for apparently no reason, why wouldn't the "other stations" keep their lower prices and sell to the customers that don't want to pay Kwik Trip's higher prices?

But, forgetting everything else, if you're going to boycott something or someone, you have to have a goal that you want them to meet, something that you want them to do so that you'll end your boycott. What exactly is it you want Kwik Trip to do so that you'll end your boycott? And, if it's not possible for them to do what you want (for example, sell below cost), then what?

I do not understand the mindset of people who come here to post boycott calls when a station does this, although just about ALL stations have done this at some point or another. The easiest solution is for the OP to just never shop there again. Sickofit56072's success in not shopping there is in no way dependent upon anyone else following his pointless boycott call. There are stations in my area I will not shop at, and you don't see me asking for two entire countries to not shop at these stations that the vast majority of users here have never heard of or will never encounter.

A 20 cent increase causes you to panic?
