Great Lakes region, we should be boycotting SPEEDWAY/Marathon. They are incontrol of this region. Price jumps for no reasons. They used the "SUMMER BLEND" back in Jan. Now Again!! Get Real! Buy your .99 coffee at MC D's.

I avoid SpeedWay if at all possible due to their price spiking philosophy.
The SpeedWay effect drives me nuts.

The Speedway closest to my house keeps their prices low, and when they spike up they spike down almost immediately.

But then, there's another gas station nearby that keeps them honest, and since they're not one of the Premium gas stations (Shell, BP, Exxon/Mobil), they don't dare stand firm on their prices.

Thanks Slice--
It is always those stations that I physically see the increase first.
At least in my neck of the woods.

Greedway is allways first to up the price in my town .Marathon owns Greedway and the price at Marthon is allways lower than Greedway. Why ? because they are on the exits of I-94 and people traveling don't price shop they go to the easy in easy out and will pay more . Nobody can tell me that one Greedway station in town gets its gas from somewhere else than another Greedway in town so why is it more at the exits of I-94 ?

Great Lakes region needs to boycott Greedway and send a message that we are not sheep and not follow the person in front of us.Throw away the greedy card and buy your drinks at MC'D's.

"I sure everyone has seen how when the price of oil rises the price of gas jumps up. But when the price of oil drops the gas company’s take their sweet time dropping the price of gas."

Hey it's the old saying, Gas prices rise like a rocket, but fall like a feather, or something like that.

"This is my first time to this site. Gas Buddy what gas company do you work for?"

Wow, first post, in the Boycott forum, accusing someone of being an employee of a gas company when they were simply trying to explain why the OP was wrong about their assertions. Why am I not surprised? I think we saw this movie before.

This is my first time to this site. Gas Buddy what gas company do you work for? I sure everyone has seen how when the price of oil rises the price of gas jumps up. But when the price of oil drops the gas company’s take their sweet time dropping the price of gas. If they really wanted to take customers from their competitors they could drop their price faster. But no. And the public have to take some of the blame for this. I have been at a gas station getting gas and looked over at the gas station next door. Their gas prices were higher and yet there were plenty of people getting gas there when right next door it was cheaper.
You said “To produce and subsequently sell "summer blend" before its authorized to be sold would subject Speedway/Marathon to substantial fines and liability”. Yet every year you can count on a price jump because they are switching to the summer blend and we are expose to believe they do not have a stock pile of gas to get them though the switch over.
I also find it interesting that you believe that if you do not post on here frequently that your opinion means nothing.
As for a boycott I think it would work if you could get people to go along with it. But it would be very hard to do. There was a town in Illinois that had only two gas stations in it and they were both the same brand. The Mayor noticed that the gas was more expensive in their town than in neighboring towns. After getting no satisfaction from talking to the gas company the Mayor called for a boycott of the stations. It only took a couple of days and they dropped their prices to match the neighboring towns gas prices. But he was the Mayor of the town and had the media behind him.
To run a good boycott you would have to have someone who could get the media attention and someone the public would follow.

By the way gas in Hobart Indiana $4.12 Gas in Pensacola Florida $3.31

No Meijer does not "jump" first.
Speedway orders its stations to spike gas prices all at once.
On Saturday, June 1, Speedway ordered MI stations to jump at 8 AM

How about Mejjiers? Mejjiers and Speed way on 15 mile are always the first to jump the price in my area.
The simple plan is NOT to boycott but drive less.

The only time I go to a speedway is if I'm on a road trip. I can always find cheaper gas at home then any speedway has. I gauge the price of gas by the Marathon closest to my house. I can usually find gas 10 to 17 cents cheaper then that Marathon.

Speedway usually jumps a dime every weekend but comes back down if the other stations don't follow

Yawn...

I know of two Speedways in the NW Indiana area that generally keep their prices low. You can pin that on the competition, but they're still putting up prices lower than others. Heck, Munster seems stuck in the middle of a long price war, with Speedway stations oftentimes being the lowest.

Mp5482,

FYI, the reason you cannot post links is because you do not actively participate in the site. See Gas_Buddy's comments. Four years of membership and not a single price posting? No one is going to take anything you post seriously if you only use the site as a grandstand for silly boycott postings.

Interesting......... Good call on the research Gas_Buddy....... I was from the Great Lakes area at one time. Speedways have always been around, and will never go away. Gas_Buddy is correct on all counts BTW.....

mp5492:
It's real difficult to take this topic seriously.

First, just because Speedway/Marathon changes prices, "jumps" in your words, doesn't mean there is no reason. Speedway/Marathon is in business to take customers from competitors; jumping prices for no reason doesn't take customers from competitors.

Second, the only time Speedway/Marathon could refine oil to "summer blend" is when it is authorized to be sold. To produce and subsequently sell "summer blend" before it's authorized to be sold would subject Speedway/Marathon to substantial fines and liability.

Third, and perhaps most important, you're a long time member of this website, with over four years membership. During that time, you've earned 325 points, including 100 points from message posting, and 100 points for joining Gas Buddy. That means, you have not, in more than four years of membership, posted one gas price. (One price post would earn 150 points, and would bring you to at least 350 points, which you don't yet have.)

If you expect people to take your price concerns seriously, at least post one price every four years to help your follow "Great Lakes region" Gas buddy members. Even one gas price post a year would be better than simply saying "boycott this gas chain because they change prices for reasons I don't know or understand". Even just one gas price post a year...

Even GASBUDDY call the PRICE hikes in this area the "SPEEDWAY EFFECT". They can set the price and all the others follow.

Boycotts do not work so this would be a waste of time. Besides your premise does not ring true with my experience. I have found Speedway and Marathon as competative as any other brands.

What really helps is GasBuddy members that update gas prices so that others will benefit by being able to find lower priced fuel.
