Boycotts do not work because even if we could get everyone to not fill up (or at least fill up less often) for an entire week, everyone would fill up the day before a boycott and the day after it ended.
The ONLY way to hit them in the pocketbook is to drive less and when you do drive, drive more efficiently. There are phone apps (like Route4Me) that once you enter the addresses of the place you're going, will plot the most efficient route to accomplish those tasks. It really works. There is always biking or walking or even public transportation, too. But, we Americans are too dependent upon our personal cars and doing things on OUR timetables that things like this won't ever happen to a large enough of an extent to make much of a difference.

If I buy on the overnight, while the station is in pumps only mode, will it count as the 21st or the 22nd? I am paralyzed with fear of buying on the 10-20.

How is not buying gas on Sunday going to impact traders? and you give a specific date, but then post in body of message not to buy gas for one whole week.
I typically go several weeks without purchasing gas. Since I bought last Sunday I'll likely go until next week, but not because of this post...

Since I bought gas on Sunday, and usually don't purchase fuel more than 2 x's a month, I'm good...
Though sounds like kansasgunman is going to use up all the fuel I've saved plus some... But at least he's paying for it, and enjoying it's use...
Drive careful out west and enjoy the journey...

Forgetting this member hasn't returned to this topic, that he started, and whose only contribution to Gas Buddy is to start a topic, note that he suggested everyone "cut back" for one week but titled the topic "Buy No gas on the 10-21".
Either he wants people to not buy gas on one day, October 21, or he wants people to not buy for a week (though "but back" is different than not buying).
This is simply a one and done, and fills space with our (and yes, mine too) responding.

Oh, Correct, you made the classic newbie mistake. Making your first (and probably only) post in the boycott forum about something that won't work. Now you'll need to post some prices and participate in legitimate discussions to salvage your reputation.

Gosh I don't think so pilgrim, We'll be on the road to Denver on the 21st in the RV and it does gulp down ULSD at the rate of 8.6 MPG...but then that's pretty outstanding when you consider it's a 45 ft Class A Coach weighing in over 60,000 lbs.

And the trader who sold the contract would win big. Don't know much about how this stuff works, do you?

"If everyone would cut out a couple of unnecessary trips during the week and take a little time to plan out a few errands so they can do them all at one time they could save a lot of Petrol."
So you start out preaching conservation. Great.
But then you blow it with the admission you can't really be bothered. Fo conservation to have any effect on prices, it has to be ALL THE TIME. It has to be a reduction in consumption, not just a blip on the financial statement that is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Is that how you plan your retirement, contributing to your 401K for 1 week?
"C'm on can't we all do this for just one week?"

That sounds great but honestly where does it really affect. People fill up the day before or the day after and therefore still buy the same amount. Legislation to cap profits since there is truly a monopoly on the industry is the only way.

There may not be enough numbers in the world to count how many times this and similar ideas have been floated as sure-fire strategies. It seems so obvious that the only way to change the supply and demand parameters all the way back to the trading floor is to drastically reduce consumption - permanently. That, of course, is inconvenient, and actually requires a bit of work, not to mention intelligent thought.

Why? What is not buying gas going to do? It will not cause a reduction of price.
Is it ok to buy gas on on the 20th or 22nd?
It won't do a think to the traders or oil companies.
POST SOME PRICES!
