Boycott Sam's Club for being on gasbuddy.com.
You HAVE to be a member to buy gas there in Michigan!!!!

Costco, SamsClub and BJ's are all pay clubs. Considering what you purchase, it is a savings

It's the same thing for Costco gas, you have to be a member. I would suggest some kind of filter to lookup gas pricing if you are not a member.

You can't boycott something you can't buy!

Even if you aren't a member, you get to know the price before you get there!

The poster made Michigan look bad. It's called Sam's CLUB. It's a club, you have to be a member when it's a CLUB. That's like trying to golf at a Country CLUB, and they don't let you because you are not a member and can't use their services. Same thing.

I wish I could change his picture. I went to U of M.

First, this topic is a year and a half old; the person that started it is no longer contributing to it, so why respond?

Second, H_Holcomb wrote:

Assuming you're not doing the 13,000 miles or so that most people do, and say you're driving about 25,000 miles a year (about 100 miles a day), and you're getting 25 miles to the gallon, your $0.05 cents a gallon savings at Sam's will save you $50 a year, about the same amount you're paying for Sam's Club membership, meaning you're breaking even (unless you use Sam's Club for other things). And, if you're driving any mileage out of your way to go to or back from Sam's Club, even one mile, you're losing money.

You might, considering your membership cost, break even or even save money buy buying gas at a local gas station, even if it is several cents per gallon higher priced than Sam's Club.

I have a membership at CostCo.
It is about 10 miles away.
I only buy gas there if I am already going there,
not just to buy GAS.

Then buy a membership! Simple as that. The same goes for Costco, you need a membership.

Sam's & Costco almost always have the cheapest gas here

If you want to buy gas at Sam's club, then go get a membership! I'm sure the people who have a Sam's Club membership are not going to boycott!

Sam Club is one of the last to raise prices, you can still buy gas without being a member, sometimes saving more than .30. You just pay .05 more not being a member. If you get a Walmart Gift card you can SAVE .03 a gallon non member.

The Sam's Club here in the New Orleans area do not offer diesel otherwise I would buy from them. Sometime this year Costco will open it's new and only outlet in Louisiana about five miles from my house. I sure do hope they sell diesel fuel there.

Sam's has the lowest price for diesel in my area so that's were my wife fills the F-350 at. I do the same for my TDI Jetta.

I have enough leashes in my life and don't particularly care for the whole "membership in order to buy" setup (spoken as a true hypocrite who benefits from a costco membership). I specifically don't like how they treat you openly like a criminal by checking your purchases; which are effectively items you have at that point paid for and technically own, as you walk out of the store. I am in Canada at the moment and they don't have costco gas.

"Costco won't sell to you unless you're a member."

If someone gives you a Costco gas gift card, you can buy gas at Costco without being a member.

Boycotting the place with the cheapest gas defeats the point of being on GasBuddy. Go get a membership & stock up on some grocery's.

nvn8v: Please re-read my comments. What I said was "With respects to Sams and Costco, I had thought it common knowledge that those two retailers required membership to get the lower price on fuel."

While non members can purchase fuel at Sams (at some locations) you will not get the lower price unless you are a member.

Maxstar, Costco won't sell to you unless you're a member. At least most of the Sam's Clubs I've been to are co-located with Walmart and there's no issue with people getting gas there. Yes, you pay more, but it's not like pulling into Costco where you have to be a member. I am a member of both and I can tell you that for the most part, Sam's is cheaper.

tailpipeFL not sure what your post is trying to convey. I am guessing it belongs in another discussion

With respects to Sams and Costco, I had thought it common knowledge that those two retailers required membership to get the lower price on fuel. Even with a lower per gallon price, having to pay for a membership would mean someone would need to buy a lot of gas over the course of a year to see any financial benefit. So I would not buy a membership just so I could buy the fuel, but if I had a membership anyway I would take advantage of the lower price.

Well, as we all know, the dollar talks the loudest.

I believe when it all come down, we always look for the cheapest gas available in our area. Sometimes that means that we will drive just that little bit farther to get the price we believe is the best.

This is the best form of any boycott.

Posting prices for Sam's, Costco, or BJ's allows people consulting GasBuddy to more easily evaluate whether membership is worth the fee. Of course, the savings on gas is only part of that decision.
