I don't know about anyone else, but I am no longer going to buy gas at the yso station on 29th street because free2010 consistently posts false high prices for his competition. I think that practice is detrimental to the accuracy of gasbuddy and I refuse to support a business that would go to those lengths, regardless of price.

CamaroZ28cd:

Just for perspective, and I'm not sure how you know the person who is making false price posts is either the owner or employee of the gas station, I would assume that the owner of a gas station has more important or at least better things to do than post gas prices on a relatively small website. Think of it this way: Even though there may be a relatively large number of Topeka Gas Buddy members, there probably aren't that many gas stations listed on the home page over the course of a week (maybe 20, 50 at most? I'm just guessing). Of those, most people only frequent a small number of gas stations regularly, and most don't go significantly out of their way to get gas. And even if they did check out gas prices on this website and found that one station was tremendously lower priced than other gas stations, most people would think it was a mistake. At worse, even if a driver went out of his way to shop at the "yso station", they'd notice that the other stations were selling at the same price as "yso" was posted as selling for.

Two things. First, it's not really worth a gas station's efforts to do this on a regulary basis; after all, how many customers are you really going to attract. Second, if you can substantiate what you're saying, then inform the moderators about your concerns or suspicions.

One last thing: Post gas prices. After all, isn't that what you joined this website for? And if you're up to date with your gas price posting, you'll correct other people's erroreous price postings. And it's unlikely that they're going to be on the computer all day just to correct what you've changed.

yeah, didn't realize I had strayed away from the topeka board. as for why I am boycotting this particular user/gas station is because he is either the owner or employee of the gas station and is purposely posting false prices to steer customers his way.

Michael29644 is correct that this would be better for a local thread, as local people will relate to the gas station, but why boycott the "yso station", whereever that gas station may be (I have no idea if it's in Topeka or in a nearby city)?

Just because free2100 is posting false prices for other stations (not knowing if he's posting premium prices when he should be posting regular, or is posting cash prices instead of credit, etc.) doesn't mean YSO station had anything to do with it.

You might get a better audience by posting this to your local discussion forum.
