I think you would have to boycott it for a week or two for anything to happen, first they would get rid of their staff.

Yes! People could buy the best price on gas offered and yet they will buy whatever is the most convenient.

Yes, they are a big waste of time.

But if it they were properly organized they might make a difference.

Completely. The few individuals who participate in any boycott are like one mosquito on a horse-not even noticeable.

No! The people who have boycotted also include those who decided to cut way back on driving their cars and ride on buses or on bikes or to buy a more economical. If they didn't do that, then more oil and gas would have been used, you'd all be paying more. Now if more of you would do that from time to time or car pool to use less and do your boycott that way, you'd see consumption down a bit further.

Happy Easter everyone.

Waste of time...free market will overcome.. in a sense we all boycot now and then. I prefer certain pop, I prefer certain gas stations, I prefer certain restaurants, that's how it all works. Free market naturally incents everyone to build a faster, better, widget cheaper. If you can.. go for it.

If we could organize and not go to a gas station one day, say on a Sunday. It would make a difference and build momentum from there. The problem is most people lack the discipline to do something like this. I would do it, could do it and want to do it. If we could get 10% of the drivers to do it there would be a huge impact and the movement would be started. I'm in and ready!!!

No! They are not a waste of time as long as there is committed participation from customers.

Boycotts if organized are not a waste of time. Are people marching in protest or for a cause a waste of time?
What if everyone said they would boycott all gas stations not just one brand on a given day - like Sunday...or Wednesday - any day as long as enough people did it. Just make sure you fill up the day before.
My local BP has gone rogue and I frequently feel like marching with a big sign saying boycott this station due to high prices.
How can they increase their pump prices when the gas that's in their ground tanks was purchased at a lower price? Why does every station raise their price at the same time? Why do they raise gas when crude goes up 2 cents but if crude drops 5 cents or more, the pump price stays the same?
How can one station charge 30 cents more than the guy a mile away? It's all about greed.

They are only good to the extent you get enough velocity (i.e. participation). Since most boycotts fail at this point, they do not succeed.

They would work if one company was targeted. the problem is that those who have "their" card and "their" awards just can't tear themselves away from that company. Imagine choosing one station in your community, and not patronizing it for a week or more, one of two things would be noticed, either there would be an outcry to the parent company and something would be done to entice customers to return, OR nothing would be done as expenses would be covered by neighbouring station/companies (that would would not be collusion, it would be brotherly love and support for that station.
Rather than saying it won't work, perhaps discussing a strategy on how the consumer could make it work would be a better point of discussion.

yes, how long can we stop using gas before we need to refuel? in my case 1/2 a day if I am working or 2 days on weekends. most of us just don't have public transit to take us to work and home.
