Gas boycotts are not a waste of time if you can get enough people to notice at a higher level than just the local level.

OK. Boycott gas. The owners laugh at you. Instead, why not boycott the politicians. Its their fault because they do NOTHING but collect paychecks.

They only work if you can get enough participation, and with gas boycotts, you can never get enough people thinking together for it to work.

No. If we could get just a 1/4 of americans who drive automobiles to find a different mode of transportation and not fill up for a week it could cripple the oil economy and send a message

Not that many people care about the price of gas to the point they would avoid one brand over another. I am sure it is more likely for a student driver with limited income to "shop" for the best price, but the majority of employed drivers have way too much going on to pay much attention to save a few cents here and there. For any boycott to be effective a significant percentage of users need to change their habits together and for a sustained period of time. When you have several million people running around like ants slaving away for rich families and shareholders 10 - 14 hours per day they are pretty much fried by the end of the day when they fill up the tank.

Yes boycotts are effective. The problem with boycotts is that it will take a long time for it to adversely affect the other party. But people are generally too impatient for it to work.

So be patient and don't give up.

Yes. For a boycott of anything to work, you must convince a majority of the people to agree with your point of view. Good luck with that.

A short definition of boycott states ,to abstain from buying or using. Having said that , a solution to affecting our cost for fuel could be in the simple abstaining of almost everything everybody consumes that could be regarded as over packaged and or packaged using obscene amounts of crude oil resources.
For example , take the product or bottled water. A necessity to some but a wasteful crude oil resource for a lot of us. Energy is used to pump and package in plastic and shipped using fuels to transport it to every corner of our country, then we have to deal with the waste plastics.
Where I'm going with this is , one does not have to consume fuels to affect to use of it.
We can all affect the consumption of crude oil by abstaining in the use of over plastic packaged, un-needed, low quality products of all kinds.
It would also help if we bought made in your country instead of shipped by fuel guzzling container ships from far distant lands.
So , the less we consume , the less fuel used to restock everything.

Think it's time for another one. Oil prices are going down and fuel isn't.
