I just joined GB a couple months ago, and am finding most aspects of the site are "off-limits" until you reach a certain point threshold. I was told that it was 10,000 points, and a month later was awarded 5000 points for a survey. However, these points do not show up in my Earned Points total. Is there some place on the GasBuddy site that would explain the differences in points?

Not sure what this has to do in the How Did You Find Us category, which is where you tell people how you learned about Gas Buddy.

First, you can earn 10,000 in about a week and a half. Simply post five gas prices a day and you earn 200 points each (a maximum of 1,000 points a day), post five message forum responses and you earn 20 points each, and read five news articles and earn 25 points each.

As for the 5,000 "bonus" points you get for the survey, they're not added to your earned points total because you didn't earn them; however you're "awarded" them for completing the survey and can use them to 'buy" five tickets for the daily gas card drawing.

Your total points is the total number of points you've earned (posting prices, etc.); whereas your point balance (which you can see on your profile page) is the total number of points you've earned (not awarded, but earned) minus any points you've used in the drawings.

Does that answer your question? And can we assume you'll reach "senior member status" (10,000 or more points) soon?
