Is there a best day of the week to get gas or fill up, is there a best time of the month? You know just in general. Obviously we keep our eye out daily, but some folks still seem to think there is a best day (price wise) to get gas.

The GasBuddy Bloggers have studied this point, and they don't think there's any consistently best day except in certain regions of the country... but the "best day" varies by region.

I'd say for the part of Houston I report, prices can go up or down nearly any business day of the week. Usually, prices don't change on the weekend.

There really isn't a good time of day to buy. I just buy when I need it and/or when prices are a little down. (Better down than up.)

For sure winter prices tend to go up for us diesel owners. Have to compete with kerosene demand for heating...

Years ago I noticed prices would increase around Friday, then go back down on Tuesdays. I don't find that's true anymore.

Due to travel 100 miles a day to work & back I fill up when the low fuel warning light comes on. That said since Speedway raises the price on any given day it really does not matter.

Are you asking your question as "Is there a best day of the week to get gas or fill up" referring to "Is there a day that the gas is better?" or are you referring to "Is there a day that gas is lower than on other days?"

In either case, the answer is no; different gas stations have different delivery schedules, and some get spot or unscheduled delivery. In any case, the price of gas will be dependent on the wholesale price. Most gas stations have a standard mark-up above wholesale that doesn't vary by what day it is or what day the fuel is delivered.

As for "is there a best time of month?" No, of course not, as prices will (or may not) vary considerably over a month's time.

Everyone has their own "trick" to when to buy gas. Some will fill up frequently to keep their tank as full as possible to avoid buying gas "tomorrow, when the price will increase". They generally don't comment about the gas they bought if tomorrow's price is lower than than today's price (when they filled up). Others will wait until their tank is as low as possible (generally a quarter tank or less, if not until the "need gas" light comes on) because they believe they get better fuel economy not carrying the extra weight of a full tank of gas. Some believe it's better to buy in the early morning or when it's cool as you get more fuel than in the afternoon "when the heat expands the gas in your fuel tank". Still others will avoid a gas station if they see a fuel tanker because of their belief that the "new gas" will cause sediment in the underground tanks to rise and go into their fuel tank; they're not convinced that the gas stations and their fuel filters work. And most people who have one "belief" can't be convinced they're wrong and the other person who has one "belief" can be right.

Does that answer your question?

The Ocean Archer and I are of but a single thought. Yup, just prior to running out is a great time to fill up. Also, at that point the importance of price diminishes.
